I'm in agreement with GolfDoc. It's conditioned well for now, but I don't see how this course could be considered superior to either of the Lost Canyons courses or Rustic Canyon. Redundant par 3s, Stupidly easy par 4. The length on the card is misleading because of the the downhill 660 par 5, but that's a very poor hole from anything but the back tee. The short part 5's aren't good either. One is 527 from the back, and 430/450 from the middle. The 18th is silly too. It's shown as a par 5, but it's far too short. I could only really consider this course a par 70, but the card shows 72.

Like on number #5 from the white & blues it looks like you should cut the corner a bit…but if you do you are a goner. From the black, you can plainly see not to attempt it. Same thing on #16. Too bad Jacobsen didn’t elevate the whites and blues more when designing the course. Golfdoc, I do disagree about the par 3’s. I like the elevated tee/straight forward approach. They are a blast to play and a place to make up some strokes. #14 is a wimpy hole that’s got no place being there. At $65 bucks I’m still a big fan of this course!

I agree that this course has very nice conditioning of fairways and greens. However, there are a lot of problems with this course that would make me think twice about returning. First of all, there are far too many blind shots on the course. A lot of times we didn't know which way the hole went. (The score cards were photocopied and didn't have a map.) Some tee boxes need to be built up to make the fairways visible. A prime example is the tee box on #16. You cannot see the fairway because of the brush along the ravine. The course has to put stakes in the fairways as aiming points. A good design should show you the hole's layout or at least give you a good idea as to the hole's direction. Secondly, the par-3's really weak. It is not that they aren't difficult, it is that the are very uninspired. Given the terrain, they play very similarly in distance, and are visually plain. The tee box on #15 is poorly positioned because you can't see the green while you are hitting. Finally, the course has a very poor flow. Number 13 is an almost impossible hole and it is followed by possibly the easiest par-4 (#14) in Southern California. This course will have to be softened for the majority of players. My warning--Don't believe the hype!!! People who tell you it is a great course got their butts kicked here and want you to do experience the same!! I have played a lot of courses in my lifetime and can tell a great course when I see one. Believe me, Peter Jacobsen did a much better job at Cypress Ridge with far less to work with.

Played the course for the second time on Jan 4th. Greens are still in great shape. Tenth fairway is a little thin, but all others are in great shape. Yardage markers are now in the fairways on sprinkler heads. Including some humorous one. For example, on the 3rd fairway there's one that says "Eat your Wheaties!" Course has some similar characteristics to Cascades, Rustic Canyon, Tierra Rejada. As with any course, it helps to keep the ball in play. The shubbery off the fairways is thick and it makes finding your ball quite difficult. Trust me, I know!

I played on the 30th and the yardage markers are in place and it is a beautiful course. Very challenging and more so without local knowledge. It was really busy as was Rustic Canyon and you could barely find out they were totally booked but that was Holiday Madness. I look forward to playing those concrete greens and great layout again.

Great course, great condition and very challenging! The staff is especially friendly & helpful. This is a real winner compared to many in Southern Ca that are twice the price!
