yesterday shot a 83 on a beautiful windless day. Fairways and greens were in great shape and showing steady improvement. The driving range could use some major attention e.g. landing zone is almost entirely barren of growth and tees relocated without indication of new yardages. Staff, as usual, was helpful and courteous. Did notice there was not Mobil snack cart, starter or the usual public announcer calling groups to their tee time.

Olivas Is my favourite course in the Oxnard Plain.

I have been reading GK reviews for probably close to a year now and for some reason have never posted about any courses, so this will be my first. I played here last friday 8/24 with a buddy for a twilight tee time of 3:12. We got on just before that and finished right around 7:00. Course conditions were excellent, greens were a bit slow compared to the likes of other places I have played throughout the year such as River Ridge, Rustic Canyon, and Camarillo Springs. I played here at Olivas about a month ago and the greens seemed to be similar to what they were then, though maybe a bit firmer which is nice. The wind wasn't too bad, though it was dead for the 45 minutes we were there warming up and decided to start up as we got to the first tee. All conditions were lush, and I don't think I had a bad lie all day. As for the sand, I stayed off the beach so I can't comment. My friend struggled on the 9th green though and took six strokes to get out - ouch! Overall, great day of golf and my only complaint is that these unbelievable Ventura County municipal courses aren't closer to my house!

Played Olivas Links with Nickesquire1 and RGM2525. I played this course last week and the greens were firmer and in better shape last week. They were slow today with a small verticut...only excuse is maybe they are priming them for the Ventura County Championships on labor Day weekend? Anyway they held shots like darts and just putted slow. Sand was super soft and deep. Tees were lush, slight verticut, fringes soft. Fairways lush but you still get a lot of roll. $26 bucks to walk at twilight great deal.....friendly staff, great practice area, perfect weather 75 degrees 10mph breeze. Give the greens some time to firm up and be cut....also people please fix your ballmarks.

Played twilight Thursday afternoon with LB23 & rgm2525. Our group walked in about 4 1/2 hours, the course was very busy, we waited on numerous shots, especially on the back.

The greens had a small vericutt and were slower and bumpier than usual. Medium speed & firm. The tees were VERY lush, as were the aprons around the greens. The fairways were generally lush as well. The rough was good overall, mowed down lower than usual. Many areas of what used to be knee deep rough are now dried out and sparse. Placed that used to be a sure penalty stroke are now semi playable. The traps had nice, new fluffy sand and were generally well maintained.

Pro Shop staff was great, as is the starter. Great place to escape the inland heat and a great value @ $26 to walk twi-light.

Played on 8/11 tee time was at 2:30 but did not tee off until 2:55. The starter told us that the were running on time but when we checked in at the 1 st tee there 8 carts lined up and it was right at our tee time. Besides the starter the rest of the staff was very friendly. There was a tourney that just finished before we tee'd off and that impacted the pace of play for the rest of the day. The course was in good condition with most of the tee boxes level and not too many divots. The fairways were in good shape with some of the lower points being a little muddy. The greens were also in good shape and the speed was the same from green to green. We finished our round with a very nice sunset and watching the owls flying around looking for their dinner was a great way to end the day.

Played twilight Thursday afternoon with LB23, a treat to again experience the WINDY So Cal coastal conditions!

Always loved this layout, even though the greens are big and undulating, I feel like I can see the breaks better here than on most courses. The greens did not disappoint, medium fast and firm. The tees were VERY lush, as were the aprons around the greens. If anything, TOO lush, it was difficult to putt over them like normal, they were continually catching chip shots and putts from off the green.

A few tees had some moderately severe divot damage, but for the most part they looked like indoor-outdoor carpet. The fairways had some heat spot damage in a few areas, but were generally lush. The rough was good, generally mowed down. Many areas of what used to be knee deep rough were dried out, burned and brittle. The traps had nice, new fluffy sand.

Due to the long-term drought like conditions, sad to see that the lakes along 11/12 & 13/16 are completely dry and the one between 9/18 is the lowest I have ever seen it. Detracts not only from the beauty of the course but also from the difficulty, you could now play many shots that were a certain penalty stroke a couple of years ago.

Out with Nickesquire1 for a twilight round 8/9/2012...kudos to the greenskeepers they are firming up the greens here and you are getting a better roll with the flatstick than months ago. Still a few ballmarks here and there that we fixed but overall an improvement on the greens. I thought the fairways were a little thinner than last time I played here but overall they were lush enough and looked beautiful overall. The sand is perfect white beach sand and deep. The fringes are in good shape. The tee boxes are some of the nicer tee boxes around. The native grasses are hit and miss if you are over the cartpaths. The wind in the afternoon makes the course tougher than it is. Challenging back nine, overall conditions, cool weather and a good twilight rate keep me coming back...overall well done olivas links. Olivas is set to host the ventura county championships as a part of a three course rotation sep 1st- 3rd.
