Fairways & Tees are ++, lush & well maintained. Greens are good to very good, but not great, still a tad slow after aeration. Traps are well maintained with nice fluffy sand. Primary rough is lush & uniform. Lakes are mostly dry beds with weeds/bamboo. Secondary rough is completely unplayable, dense/thick/deep, an almost certain lost ball and even if you find it, advancing it 20 yards is a great shot.

Played today with Johnny GK, Nick and Ron. Course is in great shape, fairways and greens are well groomed and super smooth. Greens rolled a little slower than I recalled from past rounds here, but smooth and true. Tee boxes were in great shape as well.

As Nick states in the last review, the native rough they have between most of the fairways and outer borders of the course is super deep, if your ball rolls through the primary rough, good luck finding it, and even better luck to you should you try to play out of it.

Overall I was very pleased with the condition of Olivas right now, top notch course for sure. We even lucked out and had virtually no wind to speak of, pretty rare, but enjoyed by us all!

Teed off just before 8A on a beautiful, almost windless day with fellow GKers John, Ron & Chuck. Thanks to Olivas for getting us off just before a tournament.

The tees/fairways are immaculate with few bad spots, a bit furry overall with few tight lies, so not much roll on the fairways.

The traps were well maintained with fresh, fluffy sand. Easily the best I've been exposed to recently.

The greens are smooth again after aeration 6-8 weeks ago, but still a little slower than you would normally find @ Olivas. Very puttable, just not as quick as they look or you may expect.

The course management is letting the natural areas grow and get out of control again so they will last once it gets hot/dry. While some of the deep stuff is well off the fairway, it's hit/miss, there are numerous places where the rough is 1 to 2 FEET deep within a few yards of the fairways. Which means an almost automatic lost ball/penalty shot if you get into the knee deep, really thick stuff. Even if you step on it and find your ball, it's generally more prudent to take the penalty stroke/drop rather than even try and whack it out and advance it as at least three members of out foursome found out today.

Played on 10/15 in a tournament. Overall conditions were excellent. Fairways very lush, and tee boxes in nice shape. The greens had been punched with small holes at the beginning of the month, and seemed to be healed fairly well. They were a little fuzzy and needed to be cut, which kept the line of putts not quite so good. I always look forward to playing here, and will be back soon.

Played 10/7/2011 - Course was as green as I've seen it due to recent rains. That meant you weren't getting the extra 20 yards roll from the fairways! Tee boxes were in outstanding shape and sand was too. Weakest point for me was the greens - seemed slower and bumpier than usual. Probably still recovering from aerification. Temperatures were low 70's and wind nice and steady - about 1 club when playing into it. So perfect conditions. Only complaint was no cart girl - strange for a busy friday.

Greens were a tad bumpy/slow, probably in anticipation of their upcoming punching schedule? The course had obviously been well watered recently, there were numerous areas that were wetter than you would expect, and the lack of roll made the course play longer than usual.

Got in a early twilight round this afternoon 9/26 with Nickesquire1. We played black tees. Olivas will be punching their greens early next week. The greens here are slow and bumpy with a lot of grain for the most part. They need a good punching, cut and roll. They are the worst part of the course. They are receptive and holding iron shots nicely. The fairways, tees, fringes and sand are all in great shape. Carpet fairways with perfect lies, tees that are lush and very level and sand that is raked, maintained and for Olivas standards a bit wet and on the firm side but still in very good shape. Walked the back tees in just over 4 hours with a slower back nine today. Staff wonderful, practice facility wonderful.....will wait for greens to improve after maintenance before going out again.

Played 9/17/11. Walked up as a single at 0930 am and started at 1000 am just behind the 20th foursome of the mens club tournament. So it was a slooooowww round. On the plus side, course was in very good condition, greens REALLY green as if they had been spray painted. Lots of GUR and red hazard paint everywhere too. The wind kicked up as the sun came out which always makes this course more challenging. I wasn't in one bunker all day - yippee - but playing partners indicated that the sand was good but frequently unraked!! Several areas of water/marsh have dried out over the last year which is a shame. Even the main lake was a bit scummy and stinky. Fix this and build the clubhouse and this course is a 10! Well, certainly a 9. Its a walkers heaven any way you rate it.

I played Olivas Links on Monday with a 12:31 tee time. The pro shop and restrooms are trailers which was a little disappointing, but the customer service was great. The starter was very informative and efficient, pace of play was great. The fairways were in really good shape, the greens were fast but very grainy so uphill puts were hard to judge the speed. The rough was a little longer than I would like, made it hard to find balls if hit off the fairway, but all in all the course was in great shape. I think the green fees are a little high, but if you land a deal on the internet, then it can be reasonable. I would highly recommend it if you have never played it before.
