Played yesterday 8/15 twilight with JohnnyGK, Robstretch and Nickesquire. Fairways lush...very little roll with high ball flight...only a few hardpan areas but fairways are in very good shape and very green. Fringes and Tees lush and green...sand was more wet and firm in most bunkers but usually this course has some of the best bunkers around. Greens have a little bit of poa still left in them. Uphillers most be struck firm and confident to make em. Downhillers depending on hole location must have more touch. Greens are very receptive and soft on iron approaches and chips. Pace of play today was 4 hours 40 minutes with a slower back nine as we caught the morning crowd. The rough is almost unplayable off the cartpaths depending on the hole. Wind is always usually a factor here but wasnt so much today. Staff are so friendly here in the pro-shop. Great practice facility...get out here for twilight it is such a good deal....great course to walk....have fun

The fairways are really nice, lush with a few sporadic bare spots that are marked as ground under repair. They look great, just don't expect a ton of roll.

Their rough is ridiculous in some areas, you could drop a ball and be hard pressed to find it, and in other areas, it's hardpan. Being OVER almost any green on this course will bring knee deep, thick rough into play. You hit one of the tall areas, it's definitely a penalty stroke even in the rare cases you can find your ball.

Tees were well maintained and lush. Sandtraps all looked to be recently raked. the greens were firm, but held reasonably well, very puttable, but slower than accustomed to seeing (at) Olivas.

Kinda sad to see the lake that guarded 13 & 16 on the left is almost dry... those are still very difficult holes, but nothing like when the lake was full and lurking if you went even a few ft. left. You could potentially play your ball out of the dry hazard, assuming you missed the 10 ft. tall reeds.

Wowo this course is tuning up in great shape. If they roll the greens and make them faster it will be an awesome tournament.

lets get to the good stuff -

The tee boxes are in great shape - the fairways are immaculant - the ball rolls and they are good to hit off of for you guys that hit down on the ball.

The greens are in good condition. They hold shots pretty well and if you can spin the ball there are a lot of places on the greens that will allow you to spin the ball back to the hole.
They would get a 10 if they were faster - (they are not that slow) but a little faster would be GREAT.

The course itself has a lot of different holes that require different types of shots. And thay have some of the longest holes in Ventura county. with the wind and other factors this course is no push-over.

The course is pretty flat for the most part - couple of smalls hills, but it will be a joy to walk. Take in some of the sites of the course itself and the surronding areas. Good stuff -

The staff was pretty friendly in the pro shop, everyone was pretty happy and talkative to the patrons. Great place to play -

Drove 1.5 hours to play this course and it was well worth it.

Played Olivas Links 1st twilight group out on Monday 8/8 at noon. Paired up with another single and a twosome...very nice guys...course is in very good shape.....fairways were lush, green and had just the right amount of roll....certain spots you might find more of a hardpan lie but still they are in very good shape. The tee boxes are level and for the most part lush. Several par 3's you might have to hunt for a spot of grass but not a major issue at least for this golfer. The fringes are very lush right around the front of the green complexes but are still best played with the flatstick texas wedge style. The bunkers are always at least a 9 here...several of them seemed a bit damper than usual but still in good shape. The greens are on the up and up and are in a little better shape than the last time I played the course. Seems like they are improving the growing poa problem. We walked a 4 hour and 25 minute round on a very busy foggy perfect scoring condition Monday. If you cannot get to the course early to practice here you are missing out. They have a very big chipping green as well as a very big putting green. The range is usually mats only but is a decent sized range. The thing I appreciate the most and can always count on at Olivas are the friendly staff there to greet you.

Just a weird note is that according to the marshall/cart beverage person the sprinklers came on during play on hole 2 and soaked most of the fairways from 300 yds in...nothing though that some sun can't soak up .....

Evidently, there having some problems right with the poa creeping in, but to pro shop said give it a couple of more weeks. Otherwise, the course is in great shape. Olivas has suffered from slow play lately, as I guess due to budget issues, that had to let the marshalls go. The course was pretty busy, but not busy enough to justify a 5 1/2 hour round. I could see a few wide open holes as the day went on. The group in front of us had one hole open in front of them most of the day. And despint that, we never saw the group behind us all day.

Not sure if this was new as none of the most recent reviews mention it, but I played here yesterday and the front nine had ALL of the greens with aeration holes, making putting a challenge on that sid... Continue »

Not sure if this was new as none of the most recent reviews mention it, but I played here yesterday and the front nine had ALL of the greens with aeration holes, making putting a challenge on that side. The back nine was fine, it was only the front which was aerated (small holes). The greens on the front side were also REALLY DRY and BROWN, so maybe that's why they aerated?
The course itself is nice (though they need better signage on the street). The only disappointment was the greens.

Played Olivas Links at noon today 7/11/2011 with Bigswede and a buddy. Fairways were very green and most were lush...some fairways such as #2 and #3 still have some hardpan spots but for the most part every time I am out at Olivas I see the grass becoming greener and lusher on the fairways. Tees were in good shape. Sand in bunkers in good shape...did notice some of the fairway bunkers firmer which is great. Greens to me is the only disappointing part of the course. They look healthy and are holding iron and chip nicely but you will not get a good roll with the flatstick with all the poa on them. Staff great, practice facility great...twilight walking during the week was only $26.00...cool temps today in Ventura with a pretty tough steady wind...enjoyable experience.

Played 36 holes on Monday, 7/11, with John_T. Customer service was great, we were able to get out earlier than our 6:25 tee time. Starter made our replay time ($10!!!) for 10:06. Pace early was great, about 3 1/2 hours, (as a 2some) second 18 took about 4 1/2 (as a 4 ball), but we were never waiting on a shot, and let a 2some play through.

Tee boxes were in great shape. Level and free of divots. Fairways looked good. A few were muddy, but those areas were not normally in play.

Greens rolled true and green with few brown spots. Slower in the morning, but dried out when the wind picked up in the late morning/early afternoon. I thought they were in great shape.

Olivas Links is a great course. A little high for a weekday round ($50) but replay rate ($10) is an exceptional value. If you hit it straight, you can score on the front 9. Back 9 is like hanging on for your life, very tough holes. Hit the rough, and you're are just trying to get back in the short grass, if you find your ball at all. Plays like a links course, with the front of the green open on all the holes. With the late morning wind, you' ll need to keep the ball down on some holes. This course is always a play when I'm in the area.
