The wind that I have heard many complain about in relation to the design here was in evidence but I'd call it a blessing during these hot summer days. But it does make some challenging holes even more so. Agree with all recent reviews as to the state of play and at $30.00 senior rate, excellent value. The vast majority of golfers in and around the clubhouse were wearing masks and social distancing was observed as well as I've seen it at any course. The price, the Customer service and conditions obviously contributed to the full parking lot and good patronage. POP was okay in spite of the numbers. Our 1130am tee-time meant a second go around for the day for our carts and that always concerns me that they'll have enough juice for the back nine here but my worries were unfounded. Playing here again this week - that says it all, really.

Played 6/27/2020 - Perfect weather with a one-club wind all day, occasionally gusting to 2. With the humidity, the breeze is refreshing and something you live with since this IS a links course. That said, the fairways are so lush now that there was little run out from drives but, on the other hand, every lie was near perfect. Over the years they have dried out the lakes here, cut down the rushes, reduced some of the rough and cut back some trees. This made things easier for most, I'm sure, but more recently, deep rough has returned to many areas and provides a challenge for wayward shots. Very busy this Friday including a mini-tournament of sorts and POP suffered a little. I walked but I'm pretty sure it's still one person per cart for COVID19 reasons. Less and less people wearing masks including a class of about 20 kids taking lessons. Not smart!!

Played 6/17/2020 Walked on a typical day - sunny, mild and sometimes windy. POP was great, social distancing easy, mask-wearing was observed by most if not all. Practice facilities here, which have always been good, were all open. This is one of my favourite courses and I was not disappointed by anything this day. Rough has grown back considerably from the last I played and I lost one wayward shot. Some of the greens had been partially treated and heavily sanded but didn't materially affect my play. I was in two greenside bunkers and someone's deep footprints both times - I will have to get used to that, it seems, just as with the absence of ball washers, trash bins and water stops. The close proximity of Ventura Harbour and it's drinking establishments make up for the lack of post-round facilities here - a truism that predates COVID-19

Played 6/12/2020 - first round under COVID-19 conditions and first time at this course. I walked and enjoyed it despite the problems as described in other reviews and below. I guess this course re-opened a while back after a long period of closure while the owners tried to develop it for housing. If so, it has a way to go to full restoration. Dried up lakes, burnt out fairways and untamed rough are just some of the issues. But the bones are there for a great course. It's walkable - important nowadays - the layout is interesting with more altitude changes than you might think, the surrounding scenery is on a par with many of the Palm Springs courses and the climate there is so much better than the IE or the Valleys. Check in was simple and social distancing was easy to achieve. Masks were about 50/50 worn. Driving range is acceptable, putting green less so. Greens were, in general, OK. A portion of the back nine where the lakes still had water and the grass seemed lusher give you an idea of how good this course could be. If I hear things are improving, I'll be back and consider it as an occasional option to Olivas Links when I'm in the Oxnard ares.

Played 2/17/20 - 730 am tee time on a holiday - started on time and POP was OK but could have been better if they employed marshalls here (which I have never seen) as the group 2 ahead of us was at least 2 holes behind when we saw them from the 12th tee. Funnily enough, while I never recall seeing any marshalls in the dozens of times I've played here, I also never recalled seeing a cart girl but this day, Presidents' Day, there was one. This is a popular course and it gets hammered. Too many lies on the fairway were mud or hardpan, rough was spotty, bunkers had little sand and, as with so many courses right now, the greens were the high point. Actually, customer service here is always a high point too. The snack bar has a varied menu and is quick to deliver. This track is tree-lined on every hole. Play here regularly and you'll learn to punch low shots out of trouble. Lots of elevation change makes it a challenging but fun course under 6500 yards from their tips. Recommended, especially when the warmer weather arrives and the grasses grow again. But if its hot, you won't find much drinking water on the course although the carts have a small cooler they will fill with ice if you ask. On course toilet facilities are poor too.

Played Redhawk for the first time in over 10 years today, Feb 11th, so it was like a new experience for me. I remembered the 10th hole which starts over water and the grill/bar, more on which later. Much of the layout is bordered by homes but they seldom seemed intrusive, except when ferocious dogs barked and when making some long journeys on the streets from green to tee. Had a $39.00 Golf Now rate at 1140 am. My overall impression was of a very brown golf course - apparently, no overseeding and dormant grasses. Fairways were very thin and hardpan in many places. Bunkers were skimpy on sand, rough was equally as inconsistent as the fairways but greens were good - fast and true. POP was excellent and the customer service likewise. The grill was inviting with a large and varied menu and good beer selection. There are some spectacular holes on this track and I will come back when playing conditions improve.

Played 2/10.20 at 730 am. Black Tees. Very challenging conditions with strong, gusting winds, occasional rain. Lots of damp and sodden spots on fairways. POP was good, cart girl was seen 3 times. Rough was wet and penal if your ball sat down. Bunkers were excellent with fluffy white sand. Being picky, since there are so many of them and I found several, they could use a few more rakes, especially the larger traps. There are many opportunities for your ball to head towards a water hazard and invariably, it would roll in because the grass was mowed short right up to the water's edge as opposed to a few feet of unmown rough left to help arrest movement - (my personal preference!!) While I never seem to play well here, it is a beautiful course with a good clubhouse and 19th hole. Recommended.

Played here December 11th, 2019 and had to post this review because it was, for me, a 10 out of 10 in every respect. I am lucky enough to be included in an annual Palm Springs outing with a group of Country club members. one of whom was able to arrange to play here. These are all avid, experienced golfers who have played most of the top courses around the country and to a man, we all agreed Eldorado CC was the best maintained, most carefully and beautifully manicured course we had ever experienced. Immaculate was the word we kept coming up with. It was a challenging but not punitive layout. If you ever get the opportunity to play here, don't pass it by. If I had a complaint, it was that they ushered us out of the clubhouse rather quickly but then, that was probably at the behest of the Secret Service as George Bush was apparently on his way to the facility for a lesson or a round or both!

Played 7/12.2013. Had never played here before - its a long drive from Corona but I rationalized it thinking, when I play local courses, I often meet golfers who come all the way from Orange County and beyond, so who am I to complain of the drive?
Well, its an old fashioned tree-lined course that has been upgraded. It has an excellent clubhouse and associated facilities and the beer was cool and the food tasty and inexpensive. The driving range was closed, so can't review that. Price was great - $30.00 senior with cart. To get that rate I probably spent $18.00 on gas - hmmmm. But my only real complaint was the sand traps. There are plenty of them and my ball found several. All had a crusty layer of hardened sand on the top which could have been easily broken with some raking. I think the sprinklers had wetted them and then the sun had baked the surface. This meant that your wedge was likely to skip off the surface instead of penetrating. So long distance shots could be accomplished OK but blasting out was anyone's guess.
Anyway, overall excellent golf course to be recommended and I will play again. Have read today that Gilman Springs Road will have major road works for the next year or two - that might be worth checking on before you drive all the way here to play.

Played 6/3/2013 - used a Roger Dunn discount card - $14.00, so a savings of $26.00 for a senior. (You get the card when you join their birdie savings club).
Fairways very bare in many places - lots of dirt lies. Rough inconsistent but seldom punitive.
Greens fairly slow but played just like the practice greens. Sand was plentiful but VERY wet and soggy. Cart GPS seemed to vary by 10 yards from my Garmin watch GPS most of the time. Excellent pre- and post-game facilities.

Played Sat Dec 15th. Beautiful sunny, non-windy day to start, cloudy and chilly by the finish but did not spoil a great day's golf. Fairways looked very green for winter on a links course but ball still rolled that extra bit as they remain firm. The fringes of the greens are mowed so short and are so expansive, it is difficult to tell where fringe ends and green begins. I found this to affect distance perception. I felt the GPS on the carts was not well calibrated as the yardage indicated seldom agreed with my Garmin S1. Perhaps I just had a bad piching day. The greens are pretty confounding once you actually get the ball stopped on them. The practice facility is very good and the snack-bar did a great chili and a few draft beers. Enjoyed what has become my annual round there and will definitely return and recommend the course to friends.

Played Friday Dec 21st. They have a Friday skins game - $60.00 green fee and $24.00 skins buy-in. This was the same as when using the GolfHawaii discount card. The trade winds were blowing seriously strong - any other time and we would have stayed in the bar but when you are on vacation, you feel obligated to utilize your limited time. Also, there is no bar, or restaurant, for that matter, at the clubhouse - just empty facility rooms that mirror the disused snack bar at the 10th hole. My playing partner has a 5 index and was unable to birdie any hole, such was the ferocity of the wind. On one hole, we chipped up to the pin from 50 feet, drove to the green only to find our golf balls had blown back to where we had just hit them from. On another. I chipped to within 1 foot, ran up to tap in before the wind moved the ball and as I addressed the ball, a gust bent over the flagstick and whapped me on the head. So, my impressions of the golf course are invariably coloured by the playing conditions.
The practice facility is uphill and into the trade wind direction. So, tip one, wait for the trades to dissipate and for the Kona (onshore) winds to arrive, for which this course appears to be set up. It winds uphill into the lava beds and does provide some great views of the ocean below. There are houses/condos around the holes, with more likely to be built whenever the economy rebounds sufficiently. They do not generally intrude on the ambience. The overall condition of the course was normal for such a resort course - perfectly acceptable without being superior. Rack rate is advertised as $125.00, which I would never pay - but then, no-one does. There are discount cards, coupons in Big Island brochures and packages for the local hotels and resorts. I would definitely play there again for the discounted rate.
