Made a day trip out to Sandpiper. Have taken over 5 Central Coast golf trips, but have never played Sandpiper. Course is great shape. The greens were a little crusty, but fast and firm at 10/11 on imaginery stimp. Downhillers were scary. POP was 5 hours on a Sunday afternoon. Fairways well maintained and bunkers has plenty of sand. The rough is super penal here. If your crooked off the tee, you will have a hard time finding the ball. We had rough up to our knees at one point. Layout was very unique with some quirky holes around the ocean - Hole 12. However, there were some very memorable ocean holes including 6, 10, 11. Hole 18 is a par 3. Customer service was good in the well stocked pro shop and the snack shop had plenty of well priced goodies. This might be controversial, but I rather play Sandpiper all day long over Torrey Pines South or North. Better layout, way.....better customer service....better ocean views...clean bathrooms. BTW...Underpar has all you can play deal right now...go take advantage of it!

Walked the golds 12/19/24 with my buddy Mark and two of his work colleagues Mike and Kyle who were a pleasure to play with. Our POP was 4 hrs 45 minutes teeing off at 12 noon and finishing with about 15 minutes to spare watching the SB sunset at our backs as we walked back up to the clubhouse. We maybe had a club of wind midway through the front nine that was very mild all day. It was almost 70 degrees as a high just picture perfect SB/Goleta weather with sunny skies. Super friendly staff. We had a driver head fly off on 7 tee for one of our playing partners. He was able to rent a driver at the turn. Cartgirl around several times, very friendly cartbarn staff. Top notch customer service here. They have a very sloped putting green and a grass range. The conditions were very good for December golf. Fairways were really nice besides hole 8 that looked a little drier and thinner than the other 17 holes. All other holes were semi lush to lush with good lies. Rated 8/10 Tees were mostly level, very lush and very soft at times wet. Good shape! Rated 8/10. Rough cut down very low left of 13, left of 14, right of 15, left of 16 and right of 17. This dramatically improves pace and makes the course more manageable if you do happen to spray one which I did once going a little left on 13. The fairway rough just off the fairways inside the cart paths was beautiful lush and around 3 inches thick. Rating that portion of the rough a solid 8.5/10. Was not in any greenside or fairway bunkers but they looked decent maybe a bit thin at times Saving the best for last the greens. They were a solid 12.5 on the stimp. Downhill 15 footers had to be treated as 2 to 3 foot putts to give you an idea. They were rolling very quick and true. One of the main reasons I come out to Sandpiper is to putt these greens. If you can putt these here on a day like today you can putt anywhere. Rated 9.5/10 Highly endorse this track. It is one of Socal's gems.

Played here on 9/25. I would compare this course to Torrey Pines with much better conditions. The scenery is spectacular with a lot of holes with an ocean view. Still no GPS in carts.

Local told us to land all your shots below the pin as any puts above the pin would most likely roll off the greens. They were correct, as the greens were also fast. The rough was not as punishing as the tall grass had dried out and it was easy to find your ball. The fairways were in very nice condition except for some unfilled divots.

Very fun and with spectacular views. Small clubhouse and eatery at the end of the round.

Walked the golds yesterday Monday 9/30/24 with my buddy Mark under cooler conditions with some fog cover on the back nine for a total POP of 4 hrs. Very friendly staff got us out 15 minutes before our scheduled 2pm tee time. They have a nice all grass range and a nice huge slope putting green that you can hit pitch shots on as well.

Course is still in very solid shape for early fall.

Lush fairways with minor brown spots. Perfect lies. Rated 8/10

Tess lush, mostly all level and very soft. Rated 8/10

Greens firm, fast rolling 12 downhill, 10.5 uphill. Love the greens here! Rated 9/10

Rough in good shape lush just off fairways but manageable. Was only in one native area all day left of 10. Most of the native areas outside the paths are manageable and cut down. Rated 8/10

Was in one greenside bunker left of 10 that had thicker brown almost mud like material. Rated 7/10.

Walked the blacks today 9/9/2024 under great weather around 80 degrees with little to no wind at tee off as a single. Friendly staff got me out 30 minutes before my tee time. I played through a 3some on 3 tee and flew around walking the front in an hour 15 minutes. Hit a logjam of players on 14 for a total POP of 3 hrs 30 minutes.

Enjoyed the course immensely today even way back at almost 7200 yds. Sandpipers layout from hole 10 through 14 is just something special. I also love holes 5 and 7.

Conditions were good but not as great as say 2 months ago. Most portions of the fairways had good to great lies with some spots here and there of browning. Rated 8/10.

Tees were very lush, soft and some tees needed leveling like the back box on #6. You needed long tees for your driver that is how soft they were. Rated 7.5/10

The rough was more brown than I'm used to just off the fairways but still in the 7/10 range. Was in fairway bunker on 8 that was perfect to hit out of.

The greens were very healthy looking and rolled pure. They are slower and softer than I'm used to. Would say a 10.5 on the stimp rather than there usually 12 on the stimp. Rated 8.5/10

It was a hot day in California so blessed to be able to walk this course today even in low 80s which is hot for Santa Barbara. I did not see one walker today. Would highly recommend this track. One of my favorites.

Sandpiper was again great, but the group in front of us wrecked the show!


Again played SGC on a beautiful Monday. Please review course design details in prior reviews, as I will only note conditions and happenings of the day.


Tee Boxes: Level and green, no damage. Condition excellent.


Fairways: Green, lush, and defined from rough. Condition excellent.


Greens: Green, medium-fast in speed, with softness. Speed about an 10.5. Condition excellent but slower than normal.


Sand: raked but flooded with water in several bunkers or rock hard. Visited 3 bunkers and they were in below average condition due to flooding or dryness. Not sure what happened to the bunkers, as they are usually in very condition.


Rough: very well maintained and defined, about 3 – 5 inches. Condition excellent.


Water Hazards: Very scenic on Hole 18.


Waste Areas: Waste areas were maintained with manicured nature that offered little to no recovery potential. Condition excellent.


Driving Range: one of the best grass ranges you can find in California. Condition excellent.


Practice Putting Green: excellent condition but much faster than the golf course. It runs at 12 to 12.5.


Sandpiper was again amazing, other than bunkers. This is such a great course and always a special treat! Cant wait to play again.


Unfortunately, they placed a group in front of us that were not only atrocities as golfers, they had no etiquette or respect for other golfers due to their pace play violations and lack of care for the golf course. This group caused a log jam that resulted in having to wait 20 minutes between shots for most of the front 9. At one point they had more than 3 holes open ahead of them. Mind you, the group in front of them were 80 year old ladies who teed off just 10 minutes prior to these Abominations.


The pro shop had to send Marshalls out on 3 occasions to speed them up due to the amount of complaints. Worse of all, they would not let anyone play through and were condescending. These Abominations finally picked up their pace at the 9th hole when the Marshall threatened to remove them from the course. These Abominations had no business playing a great course like SGC.


Sadly, having to deal with this nonsense, sabotaged my game. Still played well, but not to my potential. I was 2 under through 7, but simply lost my focus and it was not sustained. 3 hours for that front nine was a game damper. I hope that I never see these Hack-Job Abominations at a golf course or facility again!

Walked the golds with buddies Matt and Mark yesterday 7/1/24 teeing off around 230pm following a very slow 4some under chamber of commerce goleta weather conditions no wind 75 degrees and the coastal marine layer just burning off as we approached the 1st tee. Not many changes from a month ago on this glorious golf course. Pga tour striped Fairways 9/10. Perfect lies nice rollout and a pleasure to hit from. Tees mostly level, super lush and at times too soft and soggy. Rated 8.5/10 Fairway and greenside rough highlight of the course coming in at a 9.5/10. Perfectly manicured. Thick but playable off the fairways and greens. The" hay" between 7/15, 8/15, 15/16, right of 17, left of 14 is brutal and is most likely a lost ball. Lucky enough to only be in it once yesterday and lucked out right of 15 finding it and being able to advance it. Greens were in their usual beautiful quick shape although I have seen them quicker. Would say 12.5 stimp downhill, 10.5 stimp uphill holding shots with spin or high trajectory. Need some Piper experience to putt these beauties. Rated 8.5/10 Was in Fairway bunker on 3 and greenside bunker on 10 that were raked, crusty yet beautiful to hit out of. Playing partners were in different greenside bunker both on 18 that were wet and muddy. Other than the bunkers this place is coming in around 8.75 to a 9 for conditions Fun, challenging, great layout, great weather. Holes 10-14 along the ocean are some of better holes anywhere. Highly recommended.

Played SGC on a beautiful Monday. I will spare you the course details, as you can research such on my prior reviews and will stick to conditions. I note the following:


Tee Boxes: Level and green, no damage. Condition excellent.

Walked the golds this afternoon 6/3/24 with buddies Matt and Mark under glorious weather conditions about 67 degrees, mostly sunny skies and a light 5-7mph breeze. We took our time with POP just under 5 hours with nobody in front of us and the group behind us always stayed a hole behind. Friendly starter and cart barn guys as usual. Didn't see a cart girl today. Sandpiper is in great shape with the greens about an 11.5 on the stimp. Putting and chipping super slick and pure downhill. They held shots nicely for how quick they putted and chipped. Stay below the hole here on this course at all costs. Rated an 8.75/10 Fairways were super green, semi lush and striped. Great shape and easy to compress irons on. Rated 8.5/10 Tees flat, level and very lush at time. Rated 8.5/10 Was in Fairway bunker on 7 and greenside bunker on 11 that were raked and in nice shape. The rough was just recently cut just off the fairways and looks perfect and can be challenging. Some greenside rough a bit more difficult to judge than the Fairway rough. Lucky to not be in any of the native areas because they are nasty and long between 8/15, 15/16, left of 14 and right of 17. Rated 9/10 For one of my buddies it was his first time here and he really enjoyed it. Would recommend in a heartbeat. It's in great shape right now and is such a beautiful fun layout.
