Out Aug 17th/STL. I really enjoy this track a lot; undulating, challenging lies, pins were well balanced between fair, testing, and impossible. However, full price rate would seem a bit unreasonable for current conditions. Many bare spots in the fairways – even for end of summer [relative to other courses in the area]. Tee boxes fairly well battered, and many – esp the par 3’s – difficult to find a flat spot – strange wavy feel to them. Odd enough, the rough was in good shape and reasonable to hit out of and the sand is really good.
What the GK’r cannot control is ball marks and raking traps. Hard to get my mind around why people who pay top dollar for a course such as this refuse to do this type of maintenance. The greens were simply hammered – painfully so. I was in at least 4 traps and raked up after minimum of 2 other people each time – there are usually 3 rakes surrounding the traps at Sterling. Anyway, between now and the time change, will try to get out again and enjoy this course.

OVERATED! The greenside bunkers are inconsistant from hole to hole. The greens are fast but not true (a little bare & beat) poor pin placements (joke?)! a decent track nice layout nice service! course... Continue »

OVERATED! The greenside bunkers are inconsistant from hole to hole. The greens are fast but not true (a little bare & beat) poor pin placements (joke?)! a decent track nice layout nice service! course should be rated "good"! fairways are hardpan if you like that? played in 5+ hours for $80 on a sat. .........play twighlight our during the week to get your money's worth.

The only drawback at this course was the sand in the traps condition; even green side bunkers were firm and concrete-like.

Great fairways, greens & bunkers. Well worth the drive to play a course that is not crowded. Really like this place.

although you will drive through a bit of the housing to get to some holes,
they don't really come into play unless you are a really out of control driver of the ball.

greens are quick and true. very few marks.
fairways and rough were very well maintained with no areas
i would call bad. if you hit a bad approach and are way offline,
the rough grass might not be as lush as it is closer to the green.

sand was proper. only went in one of them but it played
well for my tastes in sand - good base with a soft top.

played from blues - tee boxes were mostly flat but a couple of lumpy
ones.

tees and greens are hand mowed - good stuff.

maintanence crew works hard and stops for you to play.
staff from cart dude to starter were all helpful

$47 to walk - $60 with cart.
and definitely worth it.

Greens are almost completely recovered from aeration. Fairways are great. A challenging, but fair, track. Well worth the trip.
