Played on 3/7, and the course is in emmaculate shape. The fairways are in excellent condition, the tee boxes have no divots, the greens roll smooth, and the sands nice too. I played here 5 yrs ago, and I was impressed w/ the conditions of the course. This is a fun course, not too hard and not too easy, just right. This course has big greens :) I highly recommend playing here this season, especially during a weekday rates.

Played 1/20/08 and the course was in the best shape I have ever seen it. Green fast and true, t-boxes good and fairways you get alot of roll.

Out in the windstorm [4-club straight into it] Friday STL. The rains have been very kind to Sterling- now is the time to play there. Fairways are the best they’ve been in a long time. The usual ‘Astroturf’ is more fluffy than ever before. Greens were hard enough [wind blown] to break a plastic divot tool…but rolled true. Speed was hard to figure- felt inconsistent from green to green. The STL rate/walking remains a steal- $23 and was able to finish in 3hrs- the course was wide open. Only wish the course was better marked- still the sprinkler heads are barren…
Final note- if you play in the wind as Sterling, it seemed to influence ball flight much more than what I’ve experienced before [and I’ve played in some desert whoppers]. I assume the wind ‘funnels’ through the streets causing this+ the course is set near foothills. Also, the houses along many of the holes will block the wind- watch what is going at the landing point. By the 8th hole I realized this was for real and ended up having fun playing along with the wind.

As my in-laws live on the course, I have played Sterling several times in the last few months. Tee Boxes have finally filled in, but the rough and greens remain in sub-par condition. To save the rough, Sterling should consider replacing carts with caddies as cart damage is severe. Most greens continue to play their regular super fast selves, but the last three greens remain thrashed. If you consider playing here, you might wait until the conditions improve.

We played this course as the first stop on our first annual central California golf trip (it was on the route after leaving from south Orange County). The course was in pretty good shape, and the greens were fine. We played on a Saturday afternoon, and never saw another group ahead or behind us, so it was quite relaxing, but not especially memorable.
