Played on Wednesday, March 5. We played the Mountain course earlier in the morning and walked onto Palm for the $30 replay rate. Pace was okay for a late morning round. We were a 2some behind a 3, but there was nowhere to go in front of them. We were joined about halfway by another 2some.

Conditions were great. Tee boxes mostly level and only minimum damage. Fairways were lush with no thin or brown spots. Rough, as always, is kept just a bit longer than the fairway, about 1-2 inches. Greens were spectacular. Firm and fast, with no ball marks. Bunkers were fine, they have started improving them like Mountain yet.

Overall, I enjoyed the Palm a bit more than Mountain this time. Palm is a bit easier on the greens, and a little more variety in the holes. There's more force carries on Palm, but the course is shorter. Still, I don't think you can go wrong with either course.

Course is in excellent shape. Greens are firm, smooth and very fast. Fairways and rough have plenty of grass and are consistent length. Bunkers are really good.

Both courses were pretty busy for a Monday morning, but we moved along OK and finished in about 4 hours.
Plenty of cart service. Pro shop and bag service were efficient and polite.

Local rate was $49 and that is a good price.

Played AP's Palm course before work on Friday, 1/4, with John_T. We had a 7:30 tee time, and the course was pretty empty. It is a bit chilly in the early morning (40s) but it warmed up quickly. Teed off on time behind 2 3somes, nice leisurely pace and we finished in just over 3.5 hours.

Course was in good shape. Tee boxes level with no bare spots. Fairways were lush, with the exception of #13, where someone spun donuts. However, they have laid down new sod to fix the damage, which did not hit the green. Rough is minimal, just an inch or so longer than the fairway. Bunkers seemed heavy, but it could of been because of the early morning. Both bunkers on the par 3 #17 were filled with water as if there was a broken sprinkler nearby. Greens were firm and fast, and the most difficult part of the course. Very little ball mark and no brown spots.

The course is in excellent shape, and for $35 (with OB card) it's a great value.

Played Friday, 8/23 with John_T and his dad. We played the Mountain course earlier, so we paid $20 for a same day "replay." Course was in good condition. Tee boxes mostly level, with divot damage on the par 3s. Fairways were nice and lush, with some thin brown/bare spots. However, most of the spots are not in the normal landing, playing areas. Rough was about 3 inches throughout. Greens were in great shape. Medium fast, and held shots. I had a couple of 6 and 7 iron shots in that normal would bounce and roll off the back. All hit and held within a few feet. They have repaired #5 green, which was pretty bad just over a month ago. We played in about 4 1/2 hours, with waiting on a lot of holes, and a 3 group backup at #17.

Overall, very nice conditions for the end of summer and I couldn't beat the price.

Played today, 6/1, with a 1:50p tee time and joined by John_T, his dad, and a new golfer. 1st day of summer rates, and we paid $30 with the OB card. Temps are still decent, so I thought it was a great deal. I was worried about the pace, since I saw a tournament leaving as I came in and the pro shop staff was being yelled at by a golfer who took 5 1/2 hours to get to the 17th tee. Course was relatively empty in front of us, and we finished right at 4 hours.

I thought the conditions have improved since the previous time I played in March. Tee boxes were mostly level and damage free, with the Par 3s being the exception. Fairways were lush and firm. Rough was around 3", and the best condition I've seen here. Balls would actually stop in the rough, and not run through it into the desert areas. Bunkers were OK, not hard packed, not fluffy, and at least 1 set of footprints in everyone. Greens were in good shape, except for #1, which had some work being done to it. They were at a medium to fast speed, rolled pretty true, and held well struck shots. Quite a few had unrepaired ball marks. AP does cater to tourists and locals alike, and some today did not know how to take care of the course.

Customer service was minimum. Only dealt with the pro shop and the starter. I wish they would of mentioned the snack shack was closed on the Palm, since it's the only stop on the course. Drink cart was around 4 or 5 times. Overall, I had a great time and the course was in pretty good condition. I usually prefer the Mountain, but the Palm is a little easier and has more forced carries.

Played 3/5 as the 1st part of a 36 hole birthday tradition with John_T. Teed off as a 2some at 6:30a, behind a 3some, and finished before 10a. Tee boxes were mostly level and divot free, but it seemed the markers were placed near the edges, causing a not so level area. Fairways were lush and firm, with very little brown or thin spots. Rough was 1-2 inches, and not very difficult to hit out of. The sand in the bunkers was pretty good for early morning. Not fluffy, but not heavy. The greens were disappointing. They were firm and fast, but had plenty of unfixed ball marks. I have never seen this amount of unfixed marks, which should not occur since the starter has a huge box of free ball mark tools waiting for you at check in. #4 green had square gouges in it which prevent the right side from being used for hole placement.

Overall, a pretty good experience. Definitely worth the $44 card member price, but I would not spend the resort rate right now.

Update from November round. Played 1/18/2013 at 11AM. Temp mid 50's with no wind. Very nice January golf day.

The course is much improved since November. Greens are smooth and very nice. Fairways have grown in and most lies are very good. Rough is perfect. About two inches and consistent. Bunkers still firm and need more sand.
Worth more than the $40 cardholder rate. Pace of play was steady which was good for a Friday afternoon. The course has a tough par 3 as the second hole so there is almost always a back up at the beginning. Once you get past this hole, the course spreads out. And the back nine is more open so less time spent looking for your ball in the desert.
Staff is great and a big shout out to Peggy behind the bar.

Tees are OK, somewhat thin with a lot of divots, but you can find a decent spot to hit from.
Fairways are thin and soft. Also wet early in the day. Lots of mud on the ball and not much roll.
Greens are OK, too many ball marks for my taste. Speed is quick (and everything breaks toward downtown which you can see from the course) but the greens should be better this time of year since overseeding has been completed for about two months.
Rough is medium and bunkers are smooth, but not enough sand. Close to playing off hard pan. Lots of desert waster areas so less water is needed.
Cart staff is friendly. Range balls cost extra and you have to hit off mats.
I've played Angel Park for more than 20 years and the course is more than adequate as a public course. But try and get a local rate in the $50 neighborhood. Not a good enough course for $100.

Teed it up on Saturday, 8/18. 1st tee time (5:50a) so we set the pace. Played in just over 3 1/2 hours. Course was showing the results of some 110 plus temps we had the last week or so. Fairways had a few brown spots. The course is divided with 1,2,3 and 14 through 18 on the clubhouse side of Summerlin Parkway, and the rest on the north side of the road. It seemed all the "bad" fairways were on the clubhouse side. Greens were in great shape, with little amount of damage. They were slower than normal due to an overnight downpour. Rough was short and the bunkers were wet, but easy to hit out of. August special of 2 for $40, so a great price. Overall a great course. Reseeding starts after Labor Day.
