Friday, 3/3, with a 11:26 tee time for the $30 replay rate. Second part of a 36 hole day. Enjoyed a great breakfast in the restaurant between rounds, topped off with an excellent spicy bloody mary. We watched the 1st tee of Palm while we ate and saw nothing but carts continuously stacked up. Checked in, sent to the tee and joined by a local couple with only the wife playing, and finished in just under 4 and 1/2 hours, waiting on the 3 ahead of us most of the day, but nothing horrendous.

Conditions mirrored the Mountain course. Decent tee boxes with minimum divot damage. Fairways were nice and lush. Bunkers were OK, typical of the desert, with some pebbles. Rough was about 1-2 inches and not penal at all. Greens were smooth and fast, probably as fast as I've seen them. Any faster and it would be difficult to putt downhill without it running completely off.

Drink cart was around 3-4 times and the halfway house snack bar was open. Marshall was out and kept it moving on a busy Friday afternoon.

Played on Friday, 1/13 with John_T for $33 with the OB Card. I made a 9:30 tee time but it had been raining since the day before and we found the parking lot empty. Minimum staffing for the day, with no starter and no snack bar. We checked in and was told to head out when we wanted. Grabbed some refreshments from the restaurant and headed to the 1st tee about 30 minutes early. With a constant light rain for the front 9, we had the course to ourselves and finished well under 4 hours, including a few long breaks when the rain picked up.

We found the course in great shape. No cart restrictions and the course drained well with no standing water in the fairways nor on the greens. Tee boxes were a bit chewed up. Fairways had no bare or brown areas and lush grass. The rough has been cut to almost nothing, just enough to define the fairways, which caused some bad runoffs off the sides and back of a few greens. On #16, I hit the edge of the green, bounced left, and rolled down a hill and under a fence, where most times the ball is held up. Greens were awesome. Faster than they appear, almost completely dry even with the rain.

The course drained incredibly and the only sketchy area was the drive from the elevated par 3 tee on #13 down to the green, crossing through an arroyo that had a stream running through it. Spoke with the marshal after 14 and they closed that section of the course since the stream was rising.

Overall, another fine day at Angel Park. I don't get many chances to play in the rain and actually looked forward to it.

Played on Friday, 9/30, with a mid-morning tee time and joined by John_T. Paid $35 with the OB card and absolutely worth the price. Don't know if they discontinued picking up bags in the parking lot, but the last couple of times, I have carried it up and loaded it on the cart myself (which I'm fine with). Fast check in on another busy Friday, both courses' tee sheets were pretty full. Played in 4:20, with a group 2 ahead over a hole behind. We were a 2 behind a 2, and the 2 behind us turned down our invite to join us. Which is hilarious, since one of the guys works with John. I grabbed a medium bucket of balls and warmed up at the matted range. Range mat is one continuous mat, like Rio Secco, but with some give to it. Really difficult to tee it up and driver from it though. Separate chipping area and nice putting green with some elevation change. Course has been re-seeded and off CPO for about a month now. Tee boxes were cut and mostly leveled, Par 3s had some divot damage. Fairways and rough was covered 100% with lush green grass. Rough about 2 inches or so, a little thicker around the green. Fairways nice and lush, with the ball sitting up. Greens were medium speed, a little slower than usual, but putts rolled smooth. #1 green was an exception, as it looked like they still have a trouble spot in the front left that is almost completely dead, and that's where they put the flag. I love the course and should play it more than I do. We played the blues (5856 yards, Par 70, 67.6/114). It's shorter than the Mountain and a little bit easier, but there are a couple of holes that will bite. 5 Par 3s (2 over water, 2 over canyons), and 3 Par 5s, with at least 2 reachable for a not so long hitter. I always have fun on this course.

Played on Saturday, July 30, with Caligolfer1031, John_T, and John's dad. Made a last minute tee time at 7:07 using their app and paid $34 each. Bag grabbed in the parking lot and quick check-in. It was busy and dust filled the valley, waited on every hole and finished in about 4:30.

I found the course in great condition. Some tee boxes need to be leveled off, but most were free of damage. Fairways were lush with no visible brown/thin areas. Rough was very thick and about 3 inches. Sand was thick and heavy, but better than thin and hard packed. Best sand I've seen here. Greens were great. Smooth, medium/fast, with some ball mark damage. The thin/damage areas to #1 and #15 have been repaired in the 4 weeks since I last played here.

Overall, course was in outstanding shape considering it's the middle of summer. Best summer shape I've seen it in.

Friday, July 1. After finishing on Mountain, we grabbed a good breakfast in the restaurant then paid a $20 replay rate and was out on Palm just before 10. Palm had been closed for a few hours while they cleaned up the cart paths that run through the Las Vegas Wash system. Heavy rains yesterday and over night pushed dirt and debris into the tunnel under Summerlin Parkway. We stalked a 4some who maintained a hole lead on us and had a single behind us who didn't want to play through and was happy playing an 1 man, 2 ball scramble. Finished in under 3 1/2 hours, ending 36 holes and a sit-down breakfast in under 8 hours. First time on Palm since March and found it in pretty good shape. Not as good as Mountain, but still pretty good. A couple of tee boxes were mounded or placed on uneven lies, but overall in good shape. The bermuda rough was about 2 inches or more in most areas, causing the ball to die and sit down. Fairways were comparable to Mountain, pretty lush, but had more thin/muddy areas. Not in any fairway bunkers, but the green side bunkers were great. While they looked firm and packed, they had a good amount of sand and easy to get out. Greens were in great shape, with no signs of punching 3 weeks ago. Smooth, medium fast, and semi-firm. However, the greens on #1 and #15 had areas that had no grass. I always enjoy playing Palm. Not as long and difficult as Mountain, but very fun with opportunities to make good recovery shots. There is more water, forced carries on tee shots, and Palm better Par 3s than Mountain.

Very pleasant day to play golf. POP was good at 3:45; played with a couple visitors in town for March Madness. I am happy to report that they both are helping to local economy by losing a little at 21 and both were a little hung over so it was friendly, not serious, golf.

One of the best reasons to play Angel Park is the staff service. Everyone appreciates that you are there to play golf and have fun. Pro shop and bag service are great. Marshal was around often to keep an eye on things and a big shout out to Diane, the beverage cart person, who has been bringing me Gatorades for many years.

Course conditions could have been better. Greens are quite firm and quite fast. Generally smooth enough but bumpy in spots. Fringes have quite a few bare spots and chipping is challenging because the grass is short and the ground is hard.

Fairways are also quite firm while the rough is longer and actually easier to hit out of. Bunkers also firm and thin in most places. Tees boxes continue to be bare.

Transition to desert landscaping is about complete. While the rough is improving, still not long enough to stop most shots from rolling into the desert. 9th fairway is a horror show in that any shot left of the center of fairway rolls into the lake.

Player card rate is up to $49. With the current conditions, not a course to play if you want a serious round of golf and be rewarded for good shots. If you just want to have fun, course is OK.

After a couple winters of warm weather, normal LV December is back this year with temps in the 50's so far. But colder weather ahead for the next two weeks so I figured I better get a round in at Angel Park before it gets too cold to play.

Course is OK. Greens are generally smooth but somewhat ball marky. Medium speed with a few bumpy areas.

Fairways are inconsistent. Some brown bermuda spots are showing through. Grass is short and firm so the lies are tight. OK if you're a sweeper; not so good if you're a digger. Rough is also short, but better that the fairways as a lot fewer brown spots. Bunkers are actually pretty good. Enough sand to splash the ball out around the green.

New driving range mats. You can actually put a wooden tee into the mat. Nice touch.
Water conservation still a big deal here, so don't hit your shot into the desert waste areas.

Just a reminder to bring your own GPS and towel. Ice chests on carts and beverage service was regular which was good for a weekday morning.

Staff as usual is helpful and pleasant. Just a nice place to play. Card member rate was $42. I haven't played the Mountain course yet this fall; but it looks a little brown as I drive by.

Played AP's Palm on Sunday, 11/1, with a 7am tee time with John_T. Paid $52 with the OB card, price never dropped during the week (AP usually adjusts the price on their app as the day gets closer) and finally made the tee time on Friday morning when I checked in to play Mountain. Bags were picked up at the car, quick check in, and off to the range. I love the new range mat AP install when I'm hitting irons. Feels like it gives, like the new turf put into football fields. However, you can use a regular tee in it, but unless you tee it high, you need to break it off to get the right height.

Customer service was good. 2 people handling the check ins on a busy Sunday morning. Joey the starter put us out a group ahead of our time, since they hadn't checked in yet, and neither did the single who also had the tee time. Restaurant was open for any pre-round needs, drink cart was around twice, but the snack bar was not open before 9.

1st time I've played Palm since re-seeding. Course took to the new grass nicely. Tee boxes were in good shape and had been moved from previous days. Fairways have grown in very nicely, with no visible dead/thin spots. Bunkers are the best of the 2 courses, fluffy and deep compared to Mountain's thin/hard. Rough was about 2 inches all around, just enough to give you trouble when hitting out of it. Greens were great. A few really thin spots on #1 and #4, but overall smooth and on the fast side.

We finished in a shade under 3 1/2 hours. I watched the 3 ahead of us play through a 4some on #5 and started dreading it. However, after we rushed through 6 and 7 (and I think our play reflected), I decided to kick it into a lower gear and allow the 4some (down a hole by 10) to pull away. Only saw the 3 behind us as they teed off as we left the green. Thought about jumping to Mountain on a replay rate but decided against it.

Overall, I play AP's Mountain twice as much as Palm, but Palm is always fun. Better Par 3s and the three Par 5s keep "going for it in 2" in play with the right tee shot. Throw in a couple of short Par 4s and it's an enjoyable round.

Played a round of golf on this course this past Sunday. Temperature was extremely hot, pace of play was painfully slow.

Now for the review. The front nine definitely felt tight from the tees. If you have never played this course before use caution because you never know how far your ball will roll out. Tee boxes were decent considering this is a public course. The rough was not that difficult to hit out of and did not add difficulty to the shots. The greens were the consistency of cotton balls, soft and bumping at the same time as if it was just recovering from being aerated. So this required attacking the pin and hope you had the right distance because you are not getting any help from a forward roll. I do not hit with much backspin but these green may it look as if I can stick my shots.

The back nine fairways were wider from the tee box making it easier to find good landing areas to attack the greens. But if you land in the bunks you are in for a treat. There are some occasion sand in the bunkers, but most had pebbles.

The entire round ended up taking lasting for almost 5.5 hours. Not bad considering we were waiting at most tee boxes before teeing off. That's what happens when you don't get a early tee time.
