Played 4/12/2015 at 6:15, temp in high 60's, winds light and variable. Played with my regular group -- Yoohwan, Rick and Kathlene. NO GPS anymore. According to the starter, Joey: Sprint provided the GPS device. Paid for by selling advertising to third parties. Advertisers weren't paying Sprint (or Sprint possibly mismanaged collection of payment). Sprint removed GPS devices. Probably same reason GPS is missing from Red Rock Arroyo and Aliante and other local courses, I'm sure. [This is a serious problem being ignored by the Main Stream Media. I understand that the drought and transgender bathrooms are important matters, but we're talking NO GPS here folks. Golfers are people, too.] Rob1563's review from yesterday was spot on. The Palm course is a fun course to play and has some challenging shots even though it is not very long. You have to avoid hitting the ball in bad spots -- a little misdirection in places results in the ball rolling off into the desert areas. Playing tip: #12 is a medium short, downhill par 3 with a long green and a large rock just to the right of green. Today it was lasering at 137 to a red flag with the Blue tees up a little. If you hit a 9 iron very solid and straight and land it about 15' below the hole, it will roll straight into the cup. Highlight of my year, so far.

Played Friday, 4-10, with John_T. Waited during the week for the tee time specials to pop up and grabbed the 6:37a spot for $39 (with OB Card). Never saw anyone directly ahead or behind us until a 2some caught up on 14. Let them play through at 15 and still finished in under 3:30.

Tee boxes were in good shape, level, and little amount of damage. Fairways were in great shape. No thin spots and pretty lush. Rough was about 1-2 inches above the fairway, and pretty easy to hit out, except sidehill rough was longer and ball would settle down. Bunkers are better here than on the Mountain course. Sand was good, not hard packed (like mountain) or really fluffy, and I found it easy to hit out.

Greens had recently been punched with really small holes but not sanded. They were being heavily watered in the morning, leaving some casual water in the low parts. Despite the maintenance, I thought they rolled smooth and at a medium/fast pace. Palm's greens always seem "softer" than Mountain's firm greens, and they held shots with little amount of ball marks found. Outside of the sogginess, they were pretty good.

I always find Palm to be an easier test than Mountain, it's shorter, has better Par 3s, and short Par 5s, and it's always fun.

Played 3/5, second half of 36. We paid $30 replay rate after finishing Mountain. We had time to grab a sandwich and was sent right off just after 11. We were a 2, behind a 3, a 2, another 2, and a 4, was waved through the 3 and hit the wall. Even waiting on every shot, we finished under 4 hours.

Course conditions were comparable with Mountain. Tee boxes level and damage free. Fairways were lush with no thin areas that I saw. Rough was still 1-2 inches, and not very penal. Bunkers were just slightly softer than Mountain, but still pretty thin/hard. Greens were great, smooth with some unprepared ball marks.

I still favor Mountain over Palm, but not by much. Mountain is slightly longer and a little more difficult. Palm has more forced carries off the tee and better par 3s (2 over water, 2 over canyons, 1 flat). I enjoy playing both.

Played 1/5/2015. Tee time at 10:30 with temp in high 50°s with a little wind. Quite pleasant for January (shorts were wearable, but not necessary).

Player card rate was $44. Excellent price for the course conditions. Rates go up in Feb or so, probably starting Super Bowl weekend.

Greens were really good and are speeding up. Getting firmer but you can still leave a ball mark. Pretty consistent with little ball damage. Fairways are also getting firmer, so you get some winter roll. Some areas are a little thin and sporadic divoting on the fairways. Rough is quite playable, not too long and very grassy. Bunkers are good which is not always the case here.

Rough areas, however, are disappearing. Lots of places that uses to be rough are being converted over to desert to save on watering costs. Puts more premium on hitting it straight (which of course is not a concern for us GK golfers).

Range has mats (range balls are extra), but plenty of practice putting areas and a new chipping area next to range has been added in the last few months. Good GPS in carts, water on the course, but bring you own towels.

Service is always great here. Friendly in the pro shop and cart staff. Good size restaurant with both inside and outside service.

Blackbirds/crows on the course will take any food out of your cart. Even a closed bag of chips. Ziplock bags seem to be the best defense.

Both the Palm and the Mountain courses continue to be good places to play in LV.

Played on Friday, 11/7, as a 3some with a 7:15ish tee time. Walked into the pro shop to pay, only to find out there's was scheduling mistake and no one was there to open. Staff handled it great. Sent players off based on the tee sheet, cart guys gave my partners a bucket of balls they had (since you couldn't pay to get a range code), and they later sent a guy out to collect the fees. Only snafu was trying to get the receipt afterwards, but that was all worked out. Excellent job working through it since if they insisted on collecting before we teed off, it would of backed the whole day up. Rest of the staff was great, starter got us off on time, drink cart was around at least 4 times, and the snack bar was open. Only complaint, one restroom which is at the snack bar and accessible after the 7th green and 10th tee. They need to bring back the portapotty that was placed before the 14th tee, once you go back under the freeway. Conditions were great, better than when I played the week after reseeding. Tee boxes were a bit chewed up, like they hadn't been moved, but level. The fairways have grown in nicely, and there were very few brown or thin areas. Rough varied, from just above fairway to about 3 inches. They are also converting some grass areas back to desert landscaping, mostly in areas between parallel holes and behind some greens. Sand was fluffy in most, while some were still wet from the morning watering. Greens were fantastic, I think they are better on Palm than Mountain. Minus some unrepaired ball marks, they were smooth and as fast as I've seen them. We played in under 4 hours, behind a leisurely paced 4some, and paid $49 with the OB card.

The first month after overseeding is always an adventure. The Palm course is in pretty good shape. No cart restrictions.

Fairways are somewhat soft -- not much roll and kind of divotty. Will be better in a few weeks as it grows in and gets firmer. Rough is similar but already growing in with less divots.

Greens were good. This is the only month of the year that the greens are relatively soft -- deep ball marks made by any high shots, but so far players are being good about fixing their marks. Greens are a little slower than normal, but are rolling smooth and true.

Tees are acceptable -- Palm never has great, lush trees -- but you can always find a flat spot to hit from. If you don't use a tee on the par 3's, you will be challenged to find a good spot to hit from.

Bunkers are good -- easy to splash out of.

Early Tuesday golf is great -- not crowded. POP was just over 3 hours and green fee with player card was $49. Angel Park has GPS and ice chests on carts. Beverage service was regular and pro shop and restaurant are top notch. Driving range has mats but plenty of practice putting available.

Palm course is not the hardest course in town, but it is a fun round and good value.

Played on Saturday, 9/13, with a 9:04 tee time with John_T. $35 with the OB card. Pro shop, cart guys, drink cart, all great. My problem was with the starter.

We were called to the started 10 minutes prior to our time, with the other half of our tee time. When we get there, they check in, and starter pairs them with a waiting 2some and sends them to the tee. We check in and he has us wait, but only for a couple of minutes, before sending us to the the 1st as a 2some. Arrive at the 1st tee box to find 3 groups waiting ahead of us. Turn around and the starter is off on a break. We finally tee off 20 minutes late, as a twosome. Glad they were able to sneak that 2some (sarcasm font).

Ok, rant over. With Mountain closed for reseed, cart path only, and perfect weather, I knew it would be slow. I was not ready for 5:15 slow though. You can see a lot of the holes ahead from the 10th tee, and I only saw one group out of position, about a hole behind.

Palm has come out of reseed pretty good. Tee boxes were in great shape, I wish they leveled out a couple of them, but were playable. Fairways were pretty good, with really only #1, 3, and 14 having thin and bare spots that haven't grown in. Bunkers were ok, not thin, not fluffy. Greens were awesome. A lil soft and medium speed, but in excellent shape.

Overall, the course will be in good shape as the grass grows in. Price was good, pace was not, but was expected.

Played on Wednesday, 6/25, 1st part of John_T's birthday 36 hole celebration. Booked a 6:30ish tee time, $35 with OB Sports card. Service was it's usually great self, clubs picked up in the parking lot, great pro shop staff, and starter got us out a few minutes early. Grabbed a good breakfast sandwich and great Bloody Marys before heading out. Understanding we were 2 behind a 3, we took our time, however, the 3 in front of them fell an entire hole behind a foursome. Even with that, we finished in 3:40.

Course was outstanding and in it's best condition I've seen. Level and relatively damage free tee boxes. Fairways were lush and carpet like. The rough has been grown about 2 to 3 inches, thick, and penalizes you a little for hitting into it. They even had a "1st cut" on a few holes which looked great. Sand was a little firm, not fluffy, but not hardpan. Greens were outstanding. They recovered great from last month's aeration. Rolling smooth, holding shots, and very little in ball mark damage.

Having played Mountain on Sunday, Palm is in better condition right now. It is a little shorter, and a bit "easier," but a fun course. Palm has better Par 3s, 2 over water, 2 over canyons. Price is great this time of year. I hope the conditions stand up to the heat.

Teeing grounds were fine.
Fairways were nice, lush, and running.
Services were good.

Love this course.
Had a great time.
Wind made it tough, but scored a decent round.
