Played 1/3/2014, 8:40. Temp in 50s, no wind, good January golf. FINALLY, this course is in really good shape. Not a single, cart path only hole. Greens are very smooth and medium fast. Fairways and rough have a lot of grass and, while there are occasional bare spots, most of the lies are good. Bunkers are quite fluffy -- no fried eggs, but not firm either. Tees are level and grassy -- some of par 3 tees have a lot of divots, but it you use a tee, this is not a problem. Comment on the yardage and course rating/slope: At 6433, the Black tees are too long for me. Plus lots of bunkers edging the fairways. So I tried the Blue Tees at 5904 expecting it to be pretty easy since the scorecard says the rating/slope from the Blues is 66.7/112. However, when I posted at GHIN, the rating/slope from the Blues is really 67.9/126. [Same deal from the Black tees -- scorecard: 69.7/121; real rating 71.2/135. And for the bombers among you: Gold tees -- scorecard: 71.9/124; real rating 73.0/148] If you hit the ball about 220 off the Blue tee, the course is quite tough because the fairway bunkers are all in play making the landing areas quite narrow. Most of the greens are elevated and firm which adds to the challenge in judging the distance and holding the green on the approach shots. And the greens are quite large which makes 3 putting more likely. A little pricey for Las Vegas (local rate $55), but if you have been wanting to play here, now is the time while the course is in good shape (which is not always the case).

We had called earlier in the week and were told the course was in "the best shape since overseeding," which seemed like sort of a calculated answer to me. Then when we arrived, I stepped out past the pro shop to find dormant, yellow/brown fairways, which was sort of a bummer. BUT...then it turns out the hole right outside the clubhouse isn't even the Arroyo course! Weird, huh? Then the starter raved and raved so much about how pristine the course conditions were on Arroyo, that the course stood little chance to live up to his description.

Overall, conditions were fine. A few tee boxes looked like they were still growing in and there were a few bare spots here and there, but for the most part the fairways and rough were lush. The greens were medium fast and sort of firm, in that way that they sort of disintegrate when you try to fix a ball mark. I had a really hard time reading these greens. Bunkers were in decent shape.

Design-wise, there's not a huge "Wow factor" here but there are quite a few really scenic holes. No. 7 is a great downhill par 3 with a great view of the Las Vegas Strip in the distance. The rest of the impressive holes are those that are nearest the mountains. This course has some crazy routing and could never be walked.

Last but not least, this was my Sunday round along with Itslikeimsayin. I had earned a FREE "hot deal" twosome from the GolfNow Rewards program, so we decided to use it on this course as it looked to be the best option available around Vegas this morning. 9:40 tee time. It was originally listed at $130, which is what made it so appealing, but we saw it go down later in the week to around $85. Still, free is free, so like playing with house money! It didn't seem too busy, but when we checked in they said they were running a little behind. We ended up teeing off pretty much on time and played as a twosome amongst the other groups. A bit slow going for us at times, but we still finished in under 4.5 hours, so solid overall pace. The course was in pretty good condition. The starter really pumped up how excellent the course conditions were, but he oversold it too much. Things were quite good, but not as nice as he made it sound. The fairways and rough were mostly good, but there were some bad patches here and there. Some sections of fairway where the overseed didn't come in as nicely and some clumpy sections of rough where the ball would sit down between two thick tufts of grass. For the most part, though, the rough was lush, deep and punishing. The greens were firm and rolling pretty smooth at medium speeds. I was in a couple bunkers and they were both fine. Overall, this is a nice course with some excellent scenery. Nice houses surround the course and can come into play with a stray drive. The landing areas aren't always easy to see from the tee boxes, so some local knowledge would have helped at times. Your enjoyment may depend on how much you pay. The rack rates seem very inflated here (even for Vegas), but it and Siena are part of a nice country club community and I guess it comes with the territory.

Played last Friday, May 10th. Had a discounted green fee of $62 bucks on EZLINKS. Rack rate is over $139. We had a local join us for only $45. This course is built on a very nice community in Red Rock. You have to drive pretty far from hole to hole. Many nice homes line all the fairways. Clubhouse was small and customer service was average. The starter rushed us to get out before a 5 some. We were ok with it. Fairways and rough was close to immaculate, and sand traps were average. Greens were horrible. Bumpy, firm, and tons of unrepaired ball marks. The speeds vary from hole to hole. There was only 2 decent greens we putted on all day. Lots of bunkers on this course and some fairly tight fairways on the shorter par 4's. Saw the cart girl 3 times, and there was watering station every 3 holes. Will not return until greens are in better shape.

Played 3/30/2013. 6:54AM tee time. Course significantly better than last round. Fairways and rough have grown in and the grass is much more consistent. You can hit through the ball without the club bouncing off the hard ground underneath. No more mud spots on the ball after tee shot.
Greens are good, still firm and the green speeds are somewhat inconsistent between the front and back nines. Bunkers are softer allowing explosion shots.
Recommended if you can get a decent green fee.

This is the middle of November. Many of the other courses in town have been through fall overseeding and are now in good shape. Arroyo is not as good as the other places I have played lately. There must be some issues about the ability of the greenskeeping staff for Arroyo to still be coming out of fall overseeding at this late date.
I would suggest that you play someplace else until Arroyo is in better shape.

Great golf course, beautiful layout. Spent a week and half to setup a group outing for a discounted rate to find out they would not honor it at check-in. Although the course experience was great the group (12 players) is not willing to return because of it.

We just played there and for the $150+ fee, I'm not to happy with the course.

I have never liked courses wedged between houses. It takes away from the beauty of the course. The layout of the course is nice but you never get the full experience of the mountains because you are constantly looking at houses.

Now, the groups ahead of us didn't help, but the greens were in lousy condition. Nobody repairs their ball marks and the damage is evident. You can also tell the greens aren't rolled on a regular basis. Real bumpy. The cups obviously were not moved because the lips were rounded and heavily damaged.

The staff? Grumpy by my standards. We got 2 "thank yous" the entire day. When we paid and when we tipped the guy cleaning our clubs. We were asked to speed up even though we were on a 4.5 hour pace, had a slower group in front of us and two some behind us that was barely keeping up.

I really wanted to enjoy my experience here but I didn't. I'll stick to my So. Cal. Courses (Oak Quarry, Blackgold, Goose Creek, etc). They cost less, have great layouts and they treat you with respect.

Played the course twice in the last month. The fairways were in great condition. The greens were in good condition and played very fast. Overall this is one of the nicest courses in the Vegas area. Some people complain about the driving range being so far away that you have to be shuttled out there by a course attendant but if you show up with enough time to spare this is not an issue, it probably took all of 5 minutes combined to get there and back. As a Nevada resident we played for the summer time rate of $45 which makes this a must play.
