Played here a week ago this morning. Had a 7:42 time as a single but arrived a bit early and was sent out in the first group around 7:10. They had us play the back nine first. I had a Groupon that was originally $35 but I had a $10 off promo so I only paid $25 for the round. Definitely a great value at that price, but I wouldn't be happy to pay full price here.

Conditions were fine all around. Fairways, greens and rough were all in good shape and pretty consistent. A few tee boxes were a little spotty. Sand was nice in the bunkers.

This course has a few scenic holes (there was snow on the mountains in the distance) and a few good risk/reward holes, but for the most part I found the layout a little dull. I enjoyed the front nine more than the back nine, but as far as I'm concerned, the highlight of the whole course is the No. 2 tee box where a friendly house cat hangs out and the hole seems to be named after him/her, "Kitten's Korner." Long story short, if you can get a decent rate out here, it's a fine course, but definitely not a "destination" course or anything that will wow you.

Greens were in great shape allowing attack of the pins. Putting was a different story, greens were bumpy. Fairways were in great shape, did not land in any divots. The rough was nice and long penalizing when in it. Would definitely play the course again, it was a joy.

Played mid-morning on Friday, 10/11, for $44 with the OB Sports card. The course has been out of re-seeding for about a month, and is only "cart path only" on 5 and17. PD has a "mats only" range, a small putting green, and chipping area. Conditions were OK, and the course had some rain the last 2 days. Tee boxes were uncut and a bit shaggy. Fairways were mostly good. There were some with thin areas, but most have grown in nicely. Rough was inconsistent, thin and short or lush and long. All the bunkers were wet, with a thin dry layer on top. Again, that may of been because of the rain. Greens were great. Very little damage and rolled perfectly. Medium-fast speed, which were slower than the practice green. Customer service was fine. They came out to the car to pick up my clubs and loaded on pre-arranged carts while checking in. Starter comes by the practice area just before the tee time. Drink cart was around at least twice per nine. Pace was a bit slow, at almost 5 hours. We missed our opportunity to jump ahead at the turn when our other 2some stopped. Overall, the course was alright. $44 is right where I would pay for it, with most local courses a bit higher after re-seeding. While it does route through a community, the fairways are a wider than expected. A good challenge from the middle tees (69.9/125, 6269 yards).

Fairways and rough are thin. Some mud picked up on ball on most shots. The course is playable, but if you can play somewhere else, then give Painted Desert a couple or three more weeks to grow in.

Restaurant is closed for remodeling, but bar is open. Cart service on course was OK. Tee times start at 7AM, but they let groups go early, so they were ahead of schedule and we went 20 minutes early. Pace of play was good early in the morning.

Nice practice putting green, but mats on range. No GPS on cart, so bring your own. Course is a good challenge -- tighter on the front, more open on the back.

Played Friday, 5/3, with a pre-work 6:53a tee time. They aerated the greens on Monday, and offered a special $25 rate (with OB card) through Friday. I received an email about the aeration , along with GK posting, and a warning about aerated greens when I scheduled my tee time through their smartphone app. They definitely were not trying to hide the fact.

Customer service was fine. Greeted in the parking lot and the bag was loaded by the time I paid. Golf shop clerk offered to let us out early, and a local joined us on the tee. No starter at the 1st tee, and I didn't hear any announcements over the PA. Drink cart was around every 4 holes or so. My only complaint is the fact they didn't have a marshal. The group in the 1st fairway when I pulled in the parking lot was just teeing off #3 as we putted out on #2, and there was a 2some between us. They had at least a 20 minute head start.

Conditions were good. Fairways were lush, with only a few thin areas throughout the 18. Rough was very thick, and about 3". You paid a price for being off the fairway. Sand was wet in the early morning, but by the back 9 was fluffy and easy to hit out. Tee boxes were level. There were 2 or 3 (including the Par 3 #4) that were shaggy, even with the mowers out. I knew about the greens in advance and they exceeded my expectations. Yes, they were punched 5 days earlier and had sand on them, but they were in good condition. The wind earlier this week may have taken the excess sand off. Greens were soft and were a medium speed. Very different from the normal firm and fast desert greens that shots bound through.

Even though we waited on almost every tee and most fairways, our group of 3 finished right at 4 hours. $25 was an amazing deal for this time of year. If you play it, you need to be accurate, as the almost all the par 4s are tight driving. The par 5s are more open, but the course does route through a residential development. The par 3s range from 125 yards to almost 200 from the middle tees (6269 yds, 69.9/125).

Greens are great. Smooth, medium quick with minimum ball marks. You need to be award that the greens slope away from the mountains.
Fairways are good, a little thin, some divots, ball picks up mud. Not the best feature of the course.
Tees are very good. Smooth, flat with few divots. Rough pretty thick and bunkers are smooth, but not enough sand for my preference.
Layout is excellent. Lots of good looking holes. Some holes require tee shots favoring the left to avoid string of bunkers down the right, and some holes are the opposite. No cart GPS, but sprinkler heads have yardage.
Range balls are extra and hit off mats. Nice putting green. Good rates for locals. Nice clubhouse.
I hadn't played the course for almost 10 years, but Painted Desert is now part of the OB Sports card program. I'll be going back.

Played Friday, 11/2, with a 10:14 tee time. Customer service was good. Greeted at the bag drop, and was offered a ride back to the car after the round. Beverage cart was around about 6 times during the round, and there are water coolers stationed every 3 holes. Course was in excellent condition after overseeding. Fairways were in great conditions, with lots of roll, and little amount of damage. Rough was long and dense. You had to know where the ball went for you to have a chance to find it, it would just sit down and disappear. Sand was fluffy with no pebbles, easy to hit out. Greens were beautiful. Firm with little amount of damage and rolled at a medium/fast pace. We finished in just under 4 1/2 hours.

Painted Desert uses "stadium pricing" on their tee time app. They reduce less demanded tee times (usually within a hour), starting 48 hours in advance. Worked out great for us, paid $37 by making the tee time on Wednesday, instead of $49 farther in advance.

Overall, I thought Painted Desert was a great course. It's routed through a residential neighborhood, but the houses (and a couple of roads) only come in play on a handful of holes. The course has only 3 sets of tees, and was more difficult then I expected. From the middle (6269 yds, 69.9/125), 3 of the par 3s played over 170 yds, and only 3 par 4s were under 350. Definitely will play here again.

Played the course 12/5/2010 with my wife and a couple of locals. Prior to playing, I had heard from others that the course was "very tight" due to its location in a housing development so I was a little nervous (not being the straightest ball striker). It's true, that the course runs throughout a housing development, but after the first 2 holes, I never got the sense that you had to try and miss houses! The fairways are wide and the landing areas are generous. I was impressed with the course. Very nice layout with a good mixture of bunkers and water throughout. There are some challenging holes, and some pretty easy holes. The course was in great shape. The greens were quick, but rolled very smooth. The bunker sand was nice and fluffy, never found a hard spot in any of the bunkers, and I searched a great many of them! The carts were equipped with GPS and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I started the round sort of dreading the course, and left with a very good feeling about it. I wouldn't hesitate to play this course again when in LV.
