I rounded out my GK Review Guru Vegas week here on the way home at 2:50 yesterday. $22 rate on GolfNow after the $15 rates available earlier in the week disappeared. Played by myself and played through one guy on No. 2 and had the rest of the course to myself. Total POP was about 2:30, while taking lots of pictures.

Holes 1, 2 & 18 seemed a tad scruffier than the rest of the course. Greens were good for the most part, but sometimes a little bumpy. For some reason the 18th green was very bumpy, covered in some sort of debris or dirt clods or something. Greens accepted full shots well and balls would stop quickly. Overall they rolled medium speed. Fairways were mostly good with some spotty areas. They looked better from afar than they did up close, but I had mostly great lies all throughout my round. The rough was very (surprisingly) lush rye and got better closer to the greens, about two to three inches deep. Tee boxes were decent. The bunkers need some work, as they were quite hard which on No. 9 caused by ball to roll up against the edge. I tried to punch it away from the edge and it rolled across the crusty surface and right back up against the edge again.

I really loved the layout. Nice rolling movement to many holes typical of Fazio designs. There's a nice aesthetic out here, too, with some areas of natural-looking waste bunkers and tall grasses/weeds bordering some holes. From what I remember of playing the Lakes course several years ago, I preferred Desert but I enjoy them both. I would love to get back out there again sometime, because I really loved the course, but the location just makes it very inconvenient unless you're on your way to or from Vegas and everyone in your party is a golfer.

I came out the day before the gk guru rounds. I left at the crack of dawn, so I was fortunate to beat the closure of the 15 due to the fire. I had never played The Desert Course at Primm, so I booked a hot deal on Golf Now for $10 (plus booking fee). I was expecting the worst, but I was pleasantly surprised.
The course was in VERY good shape. It was green and soft from tee to green. The bunkers were fine. The greens had good coverage, though they were soft and pretty slow due to being kept pretty wet. I thought the layout was fun and challenging from the blues. Service was friendly and helpful.
The only small complaint was their range ball policy. I just need a warm up bucket. Their only option is $10 for unlimited balls. Not a big deal. I'm just too cheap to pay $10 for 20 range balls. Still, one of the best deals I've ever gotten on a fine golf course.

The Course - Tee boxes were not beat up and fairly level, the fairways are still semi-dormant, firm and running well. The rough was at times punishing, lost one ball we could not find even with 3 others watching where it landed. the bunkers were disappointing - more dirt than sand, hard pan at times, some were soft but most had small pebbles in them.

The greens were still recovering from aeration, they were firm and held only high soft landing shots. Very windy conditions on this day - blowing in the 7-10 mph range, with gusts. Made for an interesting round, but I managed to score well.

Their customer service there is unreal! They are extremely nice there. from the moment you pull in to the moment you leave the clubhouse. The Desert course was in really good condition. I did not get to play the Lakes which I have heard is even better. I tipped it out and the Desert played pretty long. I had a great golf experience there and I will definitely be going back to play the Lakes.

Started my 4 day golf vacation at the Desert course. First time playing this one, got a great deal on GN for $31 for a 12:40 Tee time. Course was simply fantastic. Every aspect from check-in to check-out was well above Average. Fairways like carpet...Greens true and smooth. If I were to give any portion of this course something to improve on it would be to keep the tee boxes mowed a bit...they were slightly shaggy...but that was it. I highly recommend this course.

Played on 10/5/14. Course was just out of overseed, pleasantly surprised by the conditions. None of the usual cart path restrictions except on 2 holes. Greens were in very good condition. Medium fast and rolled pretty true. Fairways were a little thin, rough a little long, but that's wha you get with overseeding. Always nice to play at a place that feels like a golf course, not one plopped down amongst a bunch of houses. Plus, only paid 20 bucks thru golfnow.com!

Played here in a small outing of 21 player on 3/9. I haven't been here in a number of years, and was looking forward to it. I was extremely disappointed! The greens were horrible. Putts rarely held the line, being very bumpy and slow. Areas of the fairways had brown, patchy grass, which played OK, but I was used to the lushness of this course. Not this time. The Lakes course was better, but not much. I won't be back until I hear they've improved conditions.

I can only echo the other reviews. Course is in miserable condition. $79 green fees weekdays! Do not waste your money on this course. Play the Lakes course. Not in great condition but much bett... Continue »

Not in great condition but much better than the Desert. This is apparently where they are spending the maintenance money. There is actually some grass in the fairways on The Lakes. Layout is better also.

Last but not least, I took a side trip on the way home in order to play the Primm Desert course. Long story, but you can read my blog later in the week to understand why :). I had booked a time earlier in the week and the price was $80, which had actually come down some from when I started planning the trip. It was way too much for what I got on the course today and what added insult to injury was when my playing partners told me after the round that they only paid $30. I guess I got punished for booking earlier. Ugh.

I was in the first group off at 9:50, starting on the 10th hole. They start late here in the winter to build in a frost delay. I prefer when courses do a shotgun start for this rather than 1st and 10th starts. We cruised through the front nine and then ran into the groups at our turn, so the back nine was slower. Total pace was still pretty good at about 4:15.

The course is not in good shape right now. Everything is thin, dry and patchy. Not very nice looking and a lot of tight lies to contend with. Not terrible for play and the extra run-out helped at times, but still disappointing (especially at the price I paid). Greens receptive, but bumpy and medium-slow speeds. Bunkers fine.

The layout is very fun, challenging and comparable to the Lakes course, just out in the more exposed desert setting than amongst the pine trees. I could see how nice this course would be if in good shape, so hopefully they can get the grass growing well heading into spring. From what I could see of Lakes, it looked to be in much better shape than Desert, but still far from pristine. As much as I loved playing the Lakes course with the GK Group last year, today's visit was very disappointing.
