Played Sunday, 3/25, in gusty winds 30 mph plus sustained. 1st time playing here. They recently reopened after being closed for almost a year. In the past, this club had hosted the Las Vegas PGA Tour stop (Chip Beck shot his 59 here) and once had 3 courses. They consolidated the courses to 18 holes, and sold the remaining land for the housing developments around it. Houses can come into play on about 6 holes or so, mostly on the front 9. Winds kept the round in the 4 1/2 hour range.

Staff is friendly and helpful. On check in, found they are still working on improving the course experience, such as yardage books, etc. Range use comes with the greens fee. They have a 8 station grass driving range, large putting green, and huge chipping area. Starter came to the range area to get the groups teeing off. There are minimum signs to let you know what hole your on, which may cause a problem later in the round (after a few adult beverages).

Course was beautiful. Drives had to be exact, as most fairways narrowed or had bunkers waiting. Only #7 did not have a fairway bunker. There are a couple of multi tiered fairways. Tee boxes were in level and in terrific shape. Every tee area had distance to center on the tee box. Fairways were lush, firm, and fast. Rough was dormant, which caused shots to run through into red sand/rock waste areas past the rough. Greens were in excellent shape, with bare spots only on 1 or 2 holes. Greens were firm, but I could not judge the speed. Starter did say they were faster then the practice green, but actually seemed a bit slower.

The only problem I had with the course was the sand. I was in 5 bunkers, 2 fairway, 3 greenside. The fairway bunkers were fluffy while the greenside ones were hard and packed. No explosions out of the sand. After the 1st one, I just chipped or pitched out like it was hardpan.

Overall, I found it a very challenging course, especially if the wind is howling. Course seemed to be shaped to the prevailing wind, so wind going left to right, hazards were on the right. I think with little wind, the course would be fun. I can't wait to play again in better weather and the bermuda rough growing. For $35 twilight (with OB Sports card), I'll definitely be back.
