First thing to mention is how helpful the staff here was. Very, very nice folk and they really are welcoming. The course itself was in good shape. Greens a bit slow but not bad. Its not a super tricked out layout but the contrast between the front 9 and back 9 is a good challenge. This was probably a premium layout 30 years ago but now its in the value category and it is a very good value. By no means a destination course but a lot of those destination courses can learn a thing or six about treating people well from the folks here.

Played on Sunday, 9/4, in a Folds of Honor charity scramble with John_T, Larry, and Cliff. Outside staff had all the carts set and ready to go early. Food and beverage was great, and they were running a $2 beer special with a big selection. The prices for the other items were relatively low for a golf course.

I've driven past this course dozens of times as you see if right off the freeway as you leave Mesquite and enter Arizona but have never played it. I didn't have high expectations but was pleasantly surprised. The front 9 is flat with a handful of water holes. The back 9 is incredible. Just a ton of elevation changes with a couple of high elevated tees, a couple of big carries, and a couple of straight uphill holes. Conditions were very good for a late summer in Mesquite, where temps usually hit the 100-teens. Tee boxes need some leveling as many felt they were crowned or sidehill. Fairways were outstanding, no thin or dirt areas, and playing fast and firm. Rough was about 1-2 inches along the fairways but long and lush around the greens. The greens rolled smooth but were a bit long and medium speed.

I'm definitely going back and is worth a play in the Mesquite area. Resort prices are around $85, but stay and play options are available.

As leg one of a four part golfing journey(Palms4/5, Copper Rock4/6, Sand Hollow4/7, Rio Secco4/10) to celebrate my 40th along with Spring Break, I logged round one at the Palms Resort GC after a night at the Casa Blanca just across the way in Mesquite. As many of you know, the Palms is probably the least attractive course in the area. That being said, I enjoyed the round at the Palms, and would play again. We were the first ones out matched up with a local single who showed us the way. Check-in was easy and smooth and we were told that masks were optional anywhere on the property. Since we were the first ones there, when we got to the 1st tee before the starter did, that has never happened to me before. The course is in very good condition overall. The greens are in good shape and held the ball well, they are not fast but also are well taken care of. The tee boxes and fairways are in excellent shape as of right now, 8/10. The rough is cut short but is in good shape. The sand is the real negative to this course, because there is no sand. Mostly dirt and some rocks, a few traps had standing water. This course is a tale of two nines, the front is mostly flat with a few challenging holes. The back is much more difficult but also much more scenic, as you have elevation changes on all but one hole.
One of the oddest experiences I have ever had happened while we played here. About 6 holes in we looked up and over the back 9 to see a few fires taking place and long straight smoke rising in the air. When we got closer, we came to realize that the Palms decided to control burn some brush... that morning. Not only were we breathing in ash, it had covered one of the greens almost completely. When teeing off on the 15th hole I hit my ball just left ravine, within 10 feet where the burn was still smokey and hot. While I played through the heat, I cannot explain how close I was to possibly melting my ball.
I believe this course is overpriced as we paid the peak rate of $105 even after the deal by staying at the Casa Blanca. I do recommend the Palms, despite the fires, and the cost.

Rode the Whites (6178/70.6/125) in 4.5H early morning. Wind was in the 25mph range for 10 holes, then settled down into just breezy. 65 and partly cloudy. Matched up with Jim x 2, both pleasant guys to golf with. Tees mostly good with only a few needing divot attention. Fairways were lush and nice to play from. Rough was lush around the greens. Rest was kinda rough, could be anything from lush to hardpan within a relatively small area. Traps were poor. Thin with alot of rocks in them. Greens were deceptively quick. Smooth/Firm and a good looking dark green. Very nice. Customer service excellent. Cart gal around numerous times. Well stocked pro shop. Gas powered carts were well below average. No GPS, but they provided a nice yardage book with your fee. Front 9 was flatter and had more water. Back 9 many holes had elevation changes and was generally more interesting. Roughly a 700 yard difference in the White/Blue tees with no combo tees was a negative. Layout was average, playing conditions well above average. If it cost $50 I would be recommending it. I realize it is prime season here, however... at slightly more than double that for their early morning rate, this course did not come close to justifying that kind of fee on a Wed. morning.

Played here Saturday morning. We took advantage of a great stay and play deal at Virgin River Casino for $79 ($83 after resort fee) that included room and golf at either Palms or Casablanca. Considering the regular room rate for Friday night was $68, it was hard to pass up. Chose Palms for the morning round because they had an ideal 7:50 time available. There was a 20-minute frost delay, but we were in the third group out with another twosome and the pace was good at about 4 hours. The course was in good playable shape all around. Tee boxes good. Fairways pretty good, though there were a lot of goose "presents" left behind. Rough was completely dormant bermuda and shaved down. The fairway/rough cuts are nicely defined here giving the course a well-framed look for winter. Bunkers pretty good. Greens solid. Like everywhere else, maybe a bit firm this time of year, but rolling smooth at a good speed and somewhat deceptive to read. Palms was a pleasant surprise. What you can see from the freeway (the front nine) looks kind of boring. That side is very flat and forgiving as expected, but there are some good holes and a number of water hazards in play to keep things somewhat interesting. The back nine gets more dramatic with some elevation changes, great views and more enjoyable overall design. This course certainly doesn't measure up to the bigger names in town and rightfully caters more to its local crowd than tourists, but it still offers an enjoyable golf experience.

Layout: Front 9 holes, what you see is what you get is right in front of you, wide fairways no trickery. Back 9 holes? course tightens up and with a elevated holes beginning with hole #10 Par 5. Some holes on the back make accuracy a must to score!

Greens: Excellent conditions compared to the summer time! Speed/Pace medium to maybe a little pace, certainly not fast. Firm but soft & receptive holding shots.

Fairways: Very good conditions overall before the tournament, I'm sure it will be a minefield AFTER holding the TWO round tourney followed by a charity event this past Thursday. Most divots were being filled.

Rough: Varying locations, some spots could be almost 3 1/2" and around the green at least 2" very consistent especially around the par 3's.

Bunkers: Gave it a poor rating, seemed on the thin side, more like dirt than sand with pebbles/stones in the bunkers. Very hard to control shots.

Tee Boxes: Very good condition and well marked. Most sprinklers are marked in the fairways & the rough, helped having my Pro yardage book though since some markers are incorrect in my opinion.

Overall you think you should be able to score on this layout then you wonder where you lost strokes?

* THE LARGE PRACTICE PUTTING GREEN IS NOW A FARM * There is ONLY a postage sized putting green to practice!!! At this time, no plans to make any changes which is disappointing. As it is, there aren't many areas in town to work on your short game.

Been playing here since 1993 on an semi-annual basis every other June as part of our groups annual trek to Mesquite/St. George. Although the tees, fairways and rough were in very nice shape, it was a very different story for the greens and bunkers.

The greens very, very bad. They were blotted with dead spots throughout, being only slightly better on the back nine. One of the cart fellows said they sut them too short, too early and they turned out terribly. They are still barely playable, but I would wait a month or two before heading out there right now.

As for the bunkers: Imagine hitting sgreenside shots off the cart path over a 6" lip. Yes, they're that hard.

The good part was we were charged only $20 for the afternoon round and playing the back nine is always a treat. We used it as a 'warm-up' for our next four rounds at Green Spring, Wolf Creek, Sky Mountain and the Palmer Course at the Oasis, and since the fairways were above average, we got the week off just fine.

As for the customer service, it was great! There was no cart girl since we were the only ones on the course, but we had plenty of sports drinks and all of the tee box coolers had plenty of cool water to keep us quenched.

This course along with the Casablanca Golf Club were courses used for the annual Nevada Open, close to 220 participants, cut line was 45 players.

GREENS: Surprisingly on the thin side, I was expecting to see more grass considering a Professional golf event was being held for rounds 1 & 2 including practice rounds. They were not bumpy at all, rolled very smooth & true. One would think the greens would be faster and really weren't, I gave them a medium/fast speed rating, but were slower than expected. All the years I have played this layout, the greens are somewhat firm, you won't see many ball marks. The PAR 3 greens are tougher to read, can be tricky.

Fairways: Very good condition! Players are doing a good job of repairing their divots. The rough was barely an inch high, maximum of 2" on a few holes. The first cut gave player enough room to land tee shots in the fairway.

Bunkers: Seemed like the maintenance crew was able to have ALL of the bunkers "consistent" conditions, raked properly...not real fluffy sand, more medium/firm but very playable, NO SURPRISES!

Practice Tee/Range: It is what it is...The guys commented saying things like "I cannot believe they hold the REMax Long Drive competition here..." I informed the players it had been moved a few years ago to the Sports Complex.

The range is your average practice range, located across from the parking lot. Next to the first tee, is a large putting green along with a few bunkers to practice shots. THE 2nd putting green is smaller but located next to the Clubhouse. This putting green is more conducive to the types of putts you'll face out on the course.

This course is one of the very first golf courses in the Mesquite area.
6800 yards from the Blues which is the very back tees. Front 9 is somewhat flat but with holes that can bite you IF your not paying attention. The back 9 has some elevated tees while hole #12 plays all uphill. ADD some strong winds like we had 25 mph plus, makes it tougher to score.

One other note, the course prefers that you use the DRIVE-UP bag drop, this way you can easily load yr bag right onto the carts from the trunk/hatch of your car or truck.

Many people may not be aware, some of the holes were used for filming The Big Break Mesquite shown on the Golf Channel.

Some of the holes were used for the BIG Break Mesquite a few years ago...
I hadn't played the Blue Tees in a long time...it plays all of the 6800 yards into the wind on a majority of the holes depends on the time of day you play.

Fairways are wide enough and you can recover from errant tee shots. ALL of the PAR 3's play long 200+ yards, some carry water hazards. One thing I noticed the yardages on the tee boxes are not the same yardages on the scorecard...meaning I found out using a GPS and my Laser, the holes play longer than indicated. I Birdied the #1 Handicap hole #4 plays 550 yards into a prevailing wind, make sure you play left away from the water hazard that is filled on the right side...I've seen too many people try to carry or cut the corner...You'll lose strokes...best to play a "FADE" up the left side and attack the green from there.

Current conditions were very good..I gave a low rating because the greens were inconsistent, patches of grass are actually flowering/blooming in different sections of the green plus bare spots too.. The bunkers are made of hardpan with various pebbles, NO fluffy sand here!

Took us close to 5 hours to play..was paired up with another couple who were 15 minutes late to the tee box, met us on the 2nd hole. Had rental sets, never played the course and ONLY play a few times a year and recently with us? There very FIRST round of the Golfing season....uggggghhhhh..

Pay attention to the back nine: Holes #13,14, become narrow and proper club selection is needed on the Par 3. Hole #15 with the elevated tee shot, maybe able to get home in TWO! #17 will get you quickly IF you dont place your driver in the right location. The bunker is easy to carry, it's the water hazard LEFT & RIGHT before the green where you most likely will find your ball. My drive landed just short of it left in the rough. Hole #18 plays uphill and rated 2 HDCP to finish on....

We like this layout even though it's a true muni course. Cart/Beverage girl/ladies come around often on the weekends.

The golf shop prefers you drive up to the back of the building to drop yr bags off with the cart guys...Starter always keeps players on time....it's the PLAYERS who are always late...see above mention...
