Played Wed. 10/30 day two of my Mesquite trip. The course is in very good shape.
The front nine is fairly flat and the back nine (holes 11-17) is carved into the hills and were very enjoyable. The back nine greens are very undulating.
I talked to the gentleman in the pro shop about the course not having a website and finding info on the course hard to find except on greenskeeper.org. He told me that the course has gone through different ownerships and they are working on the website.
I had a good deal on the green fee ($45.00) I was told that was the Dixie Hills rate.
The fairway are very lush and the greens were soft but putted medium fast. The course is about 50 minutes from Mesquite and definitely worth the time to drive to

Played Saturday, 6/8. Arrived at 8:00 for a 8:33 tee time to find out the they had an overbooked tournament ahead of us. Starter asked if we wanted to go out early and start on #10. Absolutely, since this was the 1st of 2 rounds of the day, and we had to drive to the other. Great GPS system in the cart, but no coolers. Cart service didn't start until 10, so pack a few in the bag. When we made the turn, the starter pushed us out in front of a 4some he knows that likes to take their time. Great looking out for us. A really nice course in great condition. Tee boxes were flat and damage free. Fairways were lush with no dead spots. Rough was thick and in the 2-3 inch range. Sand was OK, nothing much to write home about. Greens were medium speed, with little amount of ball marks. Overall, a great course. Front 9 is almost all flat, with some parallel fairways and no trees. Back 9 is scenic and runs through the hills northwest of St George. Great staff.

Played on 5/20/12 and it was a beautiful day.
Weather: 95 degrees with a very light wind. It did not feel like 95.

The scenery at the Ledges is beautiful. A must play for the beauty alone.

The scenery at the Ledges is beautiful. A must play for the beauty alone.

We had the course practically to ourselves so we took our time and still finished is less than four hours.

The front 9 starts out pretty straight forward with a par 4 and then gets more interesting as you play each hole. The back 9 has fantastic views and more elevation changes. Some of the holes on the back 9 are tricky, but worth the challenge. A very interesting layout.

Greens: There are several holes with raised greens that will challenge your approach shot. If you miss the green, then you have a delicate pitch/chip shot on that could go off the other side of the green. Hole 13 is actually high in front and low in the back. So you need to land the ball short of the green and watch it roll on and hope that it does not keep going to the back of the green. Also, on many of the holes you will want to be below the hole to avoid 3 putting. There were a few ball marks, but that was because people are lazy and don't fix them!

Fairways: The grass length was just right not too tight, not too high. There were a few bare spots on some of the fairways, but not enough to affect play.

Tee boxes: Most looked good. A couple of the forward tees were sanded in places which shows that the course is taking care of things.

Bunkers: Ugh! The sand was very grainy/course with rocks. Very dry and hard.

Staff: Very little staff so if you like a lot of customer service and attention you will not like it here. I don't need a lot of attention so it was good for me.

Club house: A very beautiful building. Restaurant has limited hours. It closes early. So plan accordingly.

Pro Shop: Bare bones merchandise, but high quality.

Overall: I always love playing the Ledges because of the interesting layout, beautiful scenery, and low key staff. I definitely will play here again. My only real complaint would be the bunkers.

Played May 20th 2012: I LOVE this course!!! The scenery on the back 9 holes make it so worth playing here, every chance we get.

Currently, unable to book tee times direct on the website, apparently the HOA has taken ownership of the website, so we booked a GR8 deal @ Golfnow.com
peak season is about to end with the high heat of the summer arriving.

Pace of play was outstanding, we were a twosome, let a single player play through on Hole #15.

Carts have a state of the art GPS system, gives every distance you want to know & the actual distance & location of the flagstick. Also provides audio tips IF you need that kind of information of each hole layout.

GREENS: Very undulating, make sure you know where you want to land your approach shots. Some ball marks (lazy players in front), greens are soft but speed is very sloooowww...On the front nine, I had FOUR separate green downhill putts that stopped like the ball was made of VELCRO! which led to many 3 putts... Back nine holes? NOW downhill putts ran much faster, so confused on speed which hurt my scoring.

Bunkers: Very interesting type of sand in all of the bunkers. Grainy heavy sand with hidden rocks below the surface.

Fairways: Very good conditions, we did encounter a few holes that had some thin areas but not bad at all. Ball sits up nicely, allowing you to take a rip with the 3 wood on those par 5's.

Practice range: Grass hitting area, purchase practice balls when you check-in @ the Pro shop, you are handed a basket of golf balls. Bunker/chipping area with 3 hole locations to work on your game. One small putting green, the larger one is having maintenance.

I love this layout...Challenge for all tee boxes. There are some scenic holes on the front but the real beauty of this course shows up on Hole #10 PAR 3 through Hole #16. GR8 set of finishing holes #16-#18 with a well placed tee shot birdie is available.

Cust Svc: Staff always friendly, pick up the cart & load the items yourself is fine with me. RESTAURANT / Snack shop close early, remember UTAH is one hour ahead of PST.

We WILL always be back to play this hidden gem. BTW, they have a annual card that can mean lot's of $avings, as low as $25 per round I'm told.

25 of 28 NEW home sites on the back nine holes have been SOLD, A brand NEW HOA Clubhouse/pool area is being slated right next to the 15th tee box. A NEW tee box will be built to the left side of the current tee boxes to accommodate the HOA Clubhouse...To me this means the course will be here a long time unlike the closing of Kokopeilli Golf Club.

We love playing this golf course whenever we get the chance on trips to Utah. The scenery alone on the back nine makes it all worth it plus there are some demanding holes #14 - #18 which require well placed tee shots!

We found the conditions of the golf course considering it was winter time in Utah to be in better conditions than we expected. As a twosome, we made it around this track in 3 1/2 hours even though we caught up to the groups on the back nine holes. The golf carts have a very well defined GPS layout system in place.

Greens: Barely any ball marks on the green, firm conditions so plan your approach shots to run more than normal. For this time of the year, the greens were medium - fast and overall excellent conditions.

BUNKERS: This I DON'T understand, there are plenty of rakes in & around ALL of the bunkers provided by the course staff...One BUNKER which is so large between Holes #3 & #4, there are (9) rakes surrounded the bunker, YET many of the areas INSIDE the bunker weren't even raked! Multiple footprints all within an arms reach of a rake, I DON'T UNDERSTAND how players can be so lazy! Luckily, I did not find this particular bunker with my approach shots.

Fairways: Very good conditions, ball would sit up nicely for this time of the year. There is much height to the rough to play out of.

Personally, we've been finding deals to play this course, sometimes you can even book direct from their website without paying any booking fees!

My concern about this course is this:
1) I remember when the Jack Nicklaus Academy was located on the right side of the practice tee, it is NOW gone!

2) Unlimited Practice balls were included in the green fees, now the course is charging a minimum fee of $5.00 for a small bucket.

3) The practice area has visually declined compared to previous trips here. Grass tees are used however seems like maintenance is being passed over.

4) The restaurant is always "empty" yet it's a beautiful clubhouse...Maybe Chef Ramsay needs to drop by for a look?

5) The Pro shop isn't as stocked with golf items like it has in the past, the floor space looks very "open" per say...

6) Since the course has changed it's name, seems less & less people are playing this Matt Dye golf course. I'm afraid that our next trip up might be the last time we get to play this GEM of a golf course!

We will ALWAYS be back to play this PLAYABLE but challenging golf course!!!!

The course is in excellent condition PLUS it's high season where abnormally the rates are low...BOOK yr deals! BRING a camera for the back 9 scenery alone is worth it!

The greens are in much better condition since we last played several months back. People are doing a better job of repairing ball marks on the greens.

The bunkers are greatly improved, not as hard pan but still have many small pebbles. (I use my "ROCK WEDGE" for these shots).

The rough is thicker and in most locations about 3", still playable all things considered. Fairways are in excellent condition as well.

Don't get lost in the scenery, certain holes make you hit a FADE to play away from trouble. Par 3's aren't that long but long enough when the winds are blowing into and crosswind.

Here is my TIP of the day: Hole #14 is a risk reward hole ONLY 340 from the white tees. There is a trench/dry hazard to CARRY off the tee. I've hit different clubs off this tee box, this round? A took a 5 Iron, downhill, downwind, hit it 220! I thought I calculated perfectly, yet my tee shot STILL caught the mound/hill before the trench on the downslope...found ball in the yellow staked hazard. Maybe it would have been better to attempt to drive the ball over the hazard which I KNOW I cannot do with a carry of close to 290 yards!

Did I mention it was designed by a "DYE" family member? Ever hear of Pete Dye?

The only negative or knock against the Ledges is the restaurant, it's always closed by the time we get done playing golf. I attribute this because of the very low number of players I see on the course cars in the parking lot.

I believe they have a new ownership as well.

Practice facility has EVERYTHING you need to properly work on your game! Enjoy, you won't be disappointed...

We played this course July 2nd 2010, it was is worse shape which I attribute it being the summer time (Off season), less watering is going on & hardly anyone was on the course. I will upload recent photos.

Excellent practice area which includes bunkers, pitch/chip area up to about 40 yards. The course is a combination of links & desert style all combined into one. Carts have GPS units and are accurate even though there are yardage markers in most fairways. BEST feature the color display gives a layout of each hole, recommendations on how to play the hole and you can zoom in to see where the pin is located.

The scenery is outstanding on the BACK 9 holes! This alone makes up for the green fees, Btw, try booking via the internet websites to $ave some money.

The bunkers are made up of different textures including pebbles & rocks. Not every bunker is consistent so adjust accordingly. The fairways are plentiful (wide) and still able to recover from errant tee shots.

You MUST KNOW where the pin is located on each hole, make sure you select the proper club because these GREENS are so undulating & difficult to putt IF you are on the wrong tier or the incorrect side of the green.

The greens are still firm & fast, some people just don't repair their ball marks otherwise the greens would be in perfect condition. I recommend to stay below the hole position on ALL of the PAR 3's.

This is a must play course, we'll be back again!

All-in-all it's well-worth the play at a very beautiful course where the back nine views are pretty darn spectacular... -By the way: The home off the west end of the 12th green is just incredible.
