Apparently there was a water pump issue and for a couple of days the fairways couldn't be watered.

There wasn't dirt spots on any fairways but a few were brown. Some greens had craters.

This course is one of my all time favorites to play and it was a shame I had bad timing this year.

The greenskeeper said they are going to do everything they can to get it perfect again and it may not happen until fall.

In spite of the poor conditions, the layout and customer service was great.

Have not posted before but I thought I should after playing here a week or so ago with a group of 19 guys at our annual golf trip.
This is our 5th year of our annual golfing trip and we play all over the place in Mesquite and St. George. The only course we play every year is the Wolf.
It's special to us all and normally we love it.
But man, this year the course was in very, very poor condition.
Apparently they had water issues in the few weeks before we played, but to be honest the course fairways, tee boxes and several of the greens on the front nine were in pretty bad condition. VERY very bumpy, bare in spots, and hole #3 green was in the worst shape of pretty much any green I have seen.

Pretty bad experience overall and I think in organizing the group next year I'll need to watch the reviews to see if they have improved the course. Like I said before, almost all of us really like this course and make it a point to play here each year, but it is expensive and some other courses in the area are probably a better option right now.

Finished up a 3 week road trip by meeting up with some buds at Wolf Creek in Mesquite, first time playing the course for me. One bud said this is like playing golf at Disneyland, and he was right. The landscape is like that Thunder Mountain ride with gas powered carts to fly down some of the steepest and most dangerous paths I've ever encountered. I expected Yosemite Sam to pop out in front of us at every turn. Beautifully designed track in the red rock canyons with major elevation changes (could not even imagining trying to walk this one) and some tricky greens ... we chose the white tees with a 134 slope ... but not terribly difficult if you keep it in play. We're all 7 or 8 hcp'ers and shot in the 70's, but there is trouble to be found. Course knowledge is a must.

Conditions on the course were a bit below normal standards: greens had some bare spots and needed some TLC, some fairways were being punched, but the bunkers had light sand in immaculate condition and were a pleasure to play from. We teed off at 6:50 am to avoid the 105* heat, green fees were $90 on a Wednesday.

As mentioned in prior posts, the food is great in the restaurant. Another first: a drive-thru snake shop, I kid you not!

So, bring your camera and enjoy. But plan your day by calling first to check green fees and conditions ... and play early if possible. By the time we walked off 18 I was looking for a cold beer and some AC.

Played 6-5-12 with our group of 16.

Not much to say that hasn't already been said over and over again. Yes, it's beautiful. Yes, the customer service is great. Yes, you will not play a course like this anywhere else. And yes, it is very, very, very challenging, -especially when the wind is blowing 20-35 mph! (This made for a very long round of 5-1/4 hours, but it is very hard to put too much fault on the players since we play for greenies, sandies, birdies and Nassaus, and we play by the rules, even putting all the way out.)

Fairways: Perfect.
Tee boxes: Near perfect.
Bunkers: Slightly inconsistent but very playable.
Greens: This is the only part of the course that doesn't look good right now, but they rolled quite smoothly, medium-fast.
Rough: 2-3 inches and lush.

Play well off the tee, hit your irons to the proper level of the green and putt like there's no tomorrow, and you'll be fine. If not... well, that's Wolf Creek!

Great golfing experience on one of the most incredible golf courses I ever played.
Course is beautiful and really challenging, and I can understand why is ranked among the most toughest courses in America.
Anyway five sets of tees are available and everybody can enjoy the "ride".
I played twice in one day, first time from the whites, then from the blues.
Amazing 360° views of the surrounding desert area and red rock mountains from the highest tee boxes.
Check your gasoline powered golf cart breaks before your round. You'll really need to use them. Some of the steepest cart path I ever seen!!
Pace of play is slow. Plan at least 5 hrs to complete a round on a foresome.
On my first round I played single in 3hrs teeing off at 6,50 am. Second round, with other 3 golfers, took me 5 hrs teeing off at 10.50.
Great customer service, and friendly starter.
Two more thing if you are planning to play Wolf Creek:
Bring you camera (you'll take a lot of pictures) and some sleeves of extra-balls...you may need them!!

The good: Conditions of the grass seemed great to me (although the gentlemen paired with my friend and I said the course is normally in better shape). Fairway, rough, tee box, greens...it all looked and played great. Layout is fun and unique. Service was great and friendly. This is a course with a photo opp on just about every hole. Most beautiful course I've ever played.

The bad: It was a near 6 hour round. At some point the group slowing play down that much needs to be booted off the course. I knew going in to the round the bunkers would be inconsistent, but it was still a disappointment going from a fluffy bunker to an extremely hard one on the next hole. Driving range is irons only.

One last thing. I stayed in Vegas and the drive out to the course is almost an hour and a half (despite the high speed limits, thanks Nevada). 1.5 hours each way, plus 1 hour warm up, plus 6 hour round = the longest golf day of my life. Know what you are getting yourself into, before you book your round.

I am very happy I played this course despite the time it took. Will I play it again? Probably not. I will, however, remember the unique and amazing layout...and if I forget, I have about 2 dozen photos to remind me.

Besides the views, what I really like about this course is that there are 5 different tee boxes for all levels of players. All levels of players will be challenged and yet rewarded for good play. I am having some back and hip problems these days so I play with pain. I should play off of the Ladies Signature tees, 5,064 yards, but with my back/hip problem I chose the Ladies Classic tees, 4,101 yards. This reduced the distance and some carries. I still was challenged and rewarded for good play. I play golf to have fun. So this made the golf experience much more fun.

If you like flat, traditional, straight forward golf courses, then you will not like this course. But, if you like beautiful views and interesting hole layouts this is the course for you. I play with a lot of ladies and they enjoy views, short holes with interesting hole layouts. Longer hitters should choose the Ladies Signature tees.

For some reason I kept getting in to the sand! I am not usually in this much sand. I can say that I experienced the various types of sand bunkers at this course. I am pleased that I got out of every bunker except 1 in 1 stroke. One of the holes it took me 2 strokes, but that was because I did not follow through. Basically there were 3 different consistencies of sand depending on the hole. Some bunkers had fresh white course sand. Others had good sand, but not so white. There were a few bunkers that had rocks/pebbles in them which are coming up from the bottom of the bunker. I know it's not legal, but I borrowed my husband's "rock wedge" on one of the holes so I would not mess up my wedge. The course is in the process of replacing all of the sand in the bunkers over the next few years. I would still play this course during the bunker renovation period.

Practice tee/range: There is a small practice area (part of the green fee). For the long hitters you can only hit irons. I am not a long hitter, so I was able to even hit my driver. Not sure of the actual yardage, but I believe the longest part of the range is a little over 200 yards. I suggest that you practice the day before and/or at a nearby golf course. The closest golf course with a range is the Oasis Golf Club.

Practice green, chipping and bunker areas: There's a practice bunker, chipping area and putting green near the range. Also, there's another practice putting green near hole #1. The practice green near hole #1 seemed true to the greens on the course. I putted well (thank goodness) since the greens were fast and had nuances to challenge your read.

The customer service, food, and facilities are excellent. Food --- yummy. My husband and I eat here even when we don't play the course. My favorite is the filet mignon, but they also have good lunches and appetizers as well.

I play this course any time I get the chance even in the middle of the summer.

I have played this course a few times over the years, but this time decided to play the "CHAMPIONS" tee box (BLUE). It may measure 6309 yards but it plays longer & tougher than you think! I recommend first timers playing this course to start on the "MASTERS" tee box (white). Hole #3 is 175 yards ALL Uphill, you can barely see the TOP of the FLAG let alone where the green is located. Somehow, we all managed to make PAR from our "respected" tee boxes.

The overall conditions of the course are excellent while the scenery alone is FANTASTIC! Always amazed each time we play it. Currently, various bunkers are receiving some TLC. The sand is being replaced with what I call "AUGUSTA" white sand which is very expensive. Some bunkers have small pebbles/rocks that are coming up to the surface, THEY were NOT dumped by any of the maintenance crew.

Lucky for me, I have my "ALL TERRAIN" Killer bee sand wedge available for such situations! I've been advised the bunker project is about a 4 year process. You will experience on certain holes medium/firm sand meanwhile other holes have the more lighter fluffy sand so adjust your bunker play accordingly.

Greens: Put very true, roll real smooth & can be faster than they appear. The putting surface has a multi-color "look" to it BECAUSE it has a mixture of poa anna which is taking over the Bermuda grass & has presented a challenge for the staff. The Bermuda grass has gone dormant & most people would think the green surface has died along the edges which is not the case, just aesthetically doesn't look perfect.

Fairways & Tee Boxes: No problems here...some holes are cart path only while other holes are partially blocked by the rope with openings that allow 90 deg cart rules. Btw, all tee boxes are marked by color sticks next to the cart path so you know where the proper tees are located.

It's a Challenging golf course...enjoy the day & play to have fun! Make sure you bring a camera because the views of the scenery are incredible. The water feature as you pass on your way to the 18th green is always an attention grabber.

When Mr. "GK" said we had Nachos after the round, these Nacho's were NOT served on a plastic tray with melted cheese to dip into...aka sporting events....The Terrace @ Wolf Creek Nachos were served Multi-colored on a bed of ground beef, cilantro, cheese & other spices on a large serving platter! The food served in the Terrace @ Wolf Creek Restaurant is always exquisite and very reasonable. My wife & I have celebrated a Birthday or a Wedding Anniversary at the Wolf Creek Restaurant.

The practice tee is the only downside, only a few practice bays and "IRON" shots only! Drivers & Woods are not allowed since it's an open range with a small piece of property to hit golf shots.

Played Wolf Creek Golf Club Thursday with Addictedtugolf and GadgetGirl. The last time I played the course was 6 years ago and it immediately became my favorite course…I can honestly say it still is. The layout is simply stunning. The visuals and shot value of this course made every moment on the course interesting and inspiring for me. I posted many photos so you can take a look yourself.

The playing conditions of Wolf Creek were great. The fairways provided mostly lush lies, the greens ran smooth, fast and firm. The greens do have quite a bit of discoloring but putt fine. The tee boxes were lush and well groomed. The sand traps were either exceptional or poor depending on if you were on a hole where they had completed the bunker renovation. Most holes had excellent sand as opposed to poor. The rough was cut down to 1 to 2 inches but the course does not feature much rough as most fairways bank closely up to the desert floor/rock out croppings. Words simply can not describe this experience. Even the photos do a hard time with it. If you own the Tiger Woods PGA Tour video game, the course is featured in there too but even then, you can’t equate the experience. The visuals are that cool.

After our round we had a drink and nacho’s in the clubhouse. Delicious food and incredible views of the course.
