Played Sunday 6/9, with a 9:30 tee time. We arrived shortly before our tee time, checked in, and was on the 1st tee. Bag drop is right by the 1st tee, with carts waiting, but no staff. Starter gave a good course run down. Carts with GPS, and you can order before #9 and pick up at the turn. Pace was a bit slow, and it took almost 5 hours, waiting on almost every shot.

Course conditions were great. Tee boxes were level. Fairways were lush and divots are filled with the red sand you see everywhere around you. Exception was #16, which looked like it was dying out. Rough was thick and around 3". Bunkers are huge and tough to advance straight, a lot easier to just hit backwards or sideways. Bunkers are filled with the local red sand, which seemed heavier than normal, and was like clay when wet. Greens were medium slow, but held shots. Looked good after being punched a few weeks ago.

My only complaint was customer service. I just expected a little more. No coolers on the carts, and drink cart doesn't start until after 10. We saw it once on the back 9. While there are water stations throughout, almost every other hole, 3 straight water coolers on the back 9 (the hottest part of the course) were completely empty. I understand not allowing outside drinks, but at least provide an opportunity to buy some and keep them cold when temps are pushing 100+. And I'm not talking beer, I was downing water and gatorade.

Overall, if this was the only course we played it would of been great, but I rank it behind Wolf Creek and even with the Ledges. Don't trust your car GPS or phone, map it out before you drive out. We used 3 different sources, and ended up with 3 different destinations (only 1 was right).

Played early morning 3/30. Again the staff was very professional and after hitting a bag of balls on the all grass range the starter gave some info about the course and sent me out early as a single.

I really have to say that the review by addictedtugolf was spot on. If you have the chance to play here don't pass it up. This is the most visually stunning course I have ever played. The front nine is mostly flat and runs thru the desert but the back is where this course shines. Lots of elevation changes and stunning views.

WOW, I cannot believe it has been months since anyone has posted a review let alone it has been close to 1 1/2 years since we last played here, where do I begin?

Tee: White (joined TWO other players who never played the course, were visiting from Montana) 4 Ball tee'd off twilight rate for high $ea$on.

What's NEW? Clubhouse building is OPEN, overlooks holes #1 & #9, does not overlook 18 as most people would expect. The view from inside the clubhouse is just $pectacular! Super easy bag drop, BRAND NEW CARTS w/ a working GPS are equipped for when you arrive. The carts are brought up from under the clubhouse area. FYI, depending on which course you are playing for the day, certain carts are used just for the 9 hole layout while the remaining more powerful carts are used for the Championship 18 holes.

Please allow time to get to the practice range via carts. Currently two new putting greens are being installed right near the first hole tee box, finally some convenience for the late arrivals for their tee times who don't have time to warm up but can putt for a few mins. Scenery has always been incredible, jaw dropping for those playing it for the first time! New Condo's located off hole #1, available for a STAY & PLAY package for those visiting from outside the Utah/NV area.

LAYOUT: LOVE playing this course, the front 9 may seem somewhat flat to the naked eye but the holes are well designed with some trickery/blind tee shot.
EX: Hole #6 HDCP 1 442 - 493 par 4 The fairway is as wide as can be BUT on the tee box seems like a very narrow landing area, you have to trust your judgement & commit to hitting a RIGHT Center tee ball. If you try to cut more of the hole off? On the LEFT SIDE is a hidden rock formation located in the LEFT CENTER of the fairway. If your not paying attention, you'll find yourself directly behind this natural formation.

Back NINE? EVERYONE I've played with just cannot believe how each & every hole blows away your imagination. MUST bring a camera for the scenery alone. This trip I took pics with my updated cell phone, will post when I can. In my opinion, the back plays harder than the front side. You'll just to have come out & see for yourselves.

FAIRWAYS: From a distance,look so green & lush UNTIL you get up close. Very playable for winter conditions, just we have seen the fairways in much better condition during the hot summer months (July/August). The course requests all divots to be sand filled (Orange Colored dirt), just toss the grass aside. Plenty of unfilled or repaired divots, I was shocked that my tee ball didn't find one all day! (11/14 fairways)

BUNKERS: AVOID if you can at all co$t$! NOT because of the conditions which are perfect, soft DARK ORANGE SAND! It's BECAUSE of the deep, very deep bunkers and extremely HIGH lips to carry, this includes the fairway bunkers too! I found TWO, watched my playing partners struggle all 18 holes, it was like they were digging to CHINA!

TEE BOXES: Not one problem or issue, no complaints here.

GREENS: Hmmmm....Tough one to explain. Theses greens had many, multiple ball marks over the entire surface of he green, like the MOON, yet when we putted over the old marks, incredibly smooth, TOTALLY did not affect anyone's putt off line! I don't know what their secret is....All I know is I didn't have any 3 putts and mostly had one-two putts close to the hole locations. Even my pitch/chip shots would roll on line without a hitch and very controllable. Pace was medium - slow but consistent, we have seen them much much faster on our previous rounds. They are cut low & not shaggy. One other note, the green dimensions seemed to be HUGE in comparison to other courses we've played. Make sure you find the proper level on your approach shots.

There is a snack/beverage stand open just before you make your way to the 10th tee box and a mobile beverage cart should you miss your chance for something.

If there is something I've missed, I hope someone else plays this HIDDEN GEM of a course! We'll always be back whenever we are in the area.

Played on Sept.28th. I was on my way to Co. This course looks amazing. Standing on the first tee box and looking at a perfectly manicured fairway you know are going to have a good time. The front nine is nice but when you get to the holes on the back that are right on the cliff is an amazing view. Played in the afternoon, round took almost 6 hrs. and the greens putted very slow. The sand in the bunkers looked like a red clay but was soft. Even with the slow play and slow greens I will come back.

This course was kept in great condition and for 55 bucks was a steal. The front 9 is pretty standard but the back is a great with some very cool views and interesting holes. The a-holes in my party talked me into playing from the blues which was punishing to me as it stretches to 7000. I would suggest the whites for most of us as it still in the 6400 range and more manageable. Great layout, amenities, and customer service- you wont be disappointing.

I would love to play here again and if you were comparing this to Coral Canyon don't think twice play Sand Hollow

I'm going to try to keep this review as short as possible, because I feel like I write for days regarding this golf course. This course was literally a shot in the dark for our golf trip. It was an hour away from Mesquite. And when we got there, we were instantly amazed at the beauty and awe of the surrounding area and red rock. What I will say is that we played 2 rounds, stroke play in the morning, and a scramble in the afternoon and for over an hour during both rounds, we endured 50 mph winds and pouring rain and none of us could have been happier. Nothing was going to dampen our spirits on Sand Hollow. The only downfall we can say about the area is that they are building homes around the golf course. I know thats going to happen, but its really ashamed. Holes 12-15 follow along a cliffside, and quite possibly could be the 4 most beautiful holes in golf. Period.

Pace of play is an issue here. A lot of mid to large groups (20+) playing right now...no doubt taking advantage of the non-peak rates and the low 90 temps. You're looking at 5-6 hours for a round...during the week.

Played 6/3/12 9:15 tee time as a 3some. After my last visit here, I told my brother about how great the views were so he had to come up and see. He wasn't overly impressed with the front 9 but told him to just wait. When we hit the 12 hole, I can see his facial expression change. It was a good thing we didn't have anyone behind then since he kept taking pictures of the gorge. As most Gkers know, they aerated greens mid May and the greens are still med-slow but everything else about the playing conditions are just great. Course has a lot of play with the summer rate kicking in so expect play closer to 5 hours but it's worth it.

I played here yesterday as the last stop on my road trip through the southwest and midwest. I was almost too tired to fully enjoy it. As far as conditions go, Sand Hollow is in excellent shape. They do a great job keeping this course in tip-top shape. Pretty lush and green throughout the course. It was busy yesterday, so it was a slow round, but it was a perfect day weather-wise, so no complaints.

The front nine is pretty straightforward without a ton of variance between holes. They all felt kind of of similar. Overall VERY flat and fairways are wide open. Big greens that generally don't have too much protection, but do have some undulation that makes them hard to read. There are some big bunkers peppered throughout the course, so as long as you stay out of those and the desert areas, this course is pretty forgiving.

Holes 11 through 15 are where this course earns its keep. These holes are built along the edge of red rock cliffs (the marshal was telling us all the horror stories, including about some old guy who drove off the edge and died right after the course opened). These holes are great and stunning, culminating in the signature par-3 15th. This is a truly fantastic hole!

Then holes 16-18 are quite underwhelming after those signature holes, as they go back to the relatively flat and open layouts. I was probably too tired to appreciate any of the subtleties of these non-spectacular holes, but if it wasn't for those great holes on the back nine, the excellent conditions and the beautiful scenery surrounding the St. George area, this would be just an OK course design in my opinion.
