After our last GM / GK Private Course event at Kings Country Club, I could not wait to come back for second chance to play this one. If you were to look at Kings CC on Google Maps, that is if you even know where Hanford, CA is, looks plain, flat, no dramatic holes, parkland design. Good thing you use Greenskeeper.org instead of a Google Map to make your decisions because this course is a blast to play. Exceptionally well-designed parkland golf course with beautiful challenging green complexes, no homes, secluded with an occasional train passing by.

Played with rgm2525 and GKer captrichs on 11/13. Anytime I have a chance to share a round for the first time with longtime contributing GKer it’s a treat for me. Captrichs would be treat for anyone to play with regardless.

Golf course was not quite as lush as it was in August but still beautiful with the greens running smooth and fast. Staff is super accommodating and friendly. Can’t wait to line up our next visit there. Thinking May or June for 2024.

The second stop on our golf road trip weekend was at the GK/Golf Moose outing. Like the others I’ve attended, this outing was well organized, fun and well worth the long drive to get there.

Jackie and I were paired with Jack and Joe who were really fun playing partners. The course was beautiful. The fairways were in great shape. They are lined with large old trees, which did get hit more than few times. The bunkers had wonderfully clean, soft sand that I got to hit from more times than I’d like to admit. The rough was quite deep in some areas, making it tough to find a wayward ball. The greens were perfect.. .but I still missed too many putts.

If there is another outing here, I’ll happily make the drive again.

Finally got to meet and play with Johnny GK. Had a great time at a great course. My first So-Cal Golf Moose outing. Johnny did a fantastic job, and it was smooth sailing the whole way. The staff were all welcoming and seemed to be happy to have us there. The course is an outstanding old school parkland style, and you would never know you were surrounded by flat farmland.

Immaculate conditioning throughout with a good mix of par three's (4 holes, 4 different clubs, my favorite). Layout calls for all kinds of shots and all your clubs, especially your punch-out shot. Weather, pace and company were absolutely perfect. I highly recommend to anyone who can, check it out the next time an outing is planned it was well worth it.

Late Review but still the most recent on for Kings CC and I doubt the course much has changed since 8/7.

First time playing Kings CC which is private course in the small city of Hanford central valley CA.

This is a traditional parkland flat style course like most throughout the Central Valley region. I grew up playing traditional parkland flat style courses and this is one of the better ones. Superbly conditioned, moderate length, lots trees in play on every hole, undulating greens, fairly challenging greenside bunkers, good variety of holes… I really enjoyed it. Very pleasant staff that was excellent to work with prior and during the event. Fancy clubhouse and a separate building for the proshop which was also nice.

This outing was one of the most attended Golf Moose / Greenskeeper.org Private Event outings yet despite the 100+ degree temps. We had 120 players with more players wanting in. The course has a great history in the region and is well regarded. I can attest. I liked the experience so much I book another event for us there for November 13th.

I played Kings CC this morning with a friend. We started in the middle of the back nine to let the ladies tournament get through the first few holes which worked great as we never caught them. Course is in real nice shape right now. Compared to all of the other courses I’ve played in the last week (Riverside, Ridge Creek, Blackhorse and Hunter Ranch), Kings CC has the best conditions (Hunter isn’t far behind). Fairways were very lush and green throughout. Very very few brown or thin spots on the entire course. Greens were near immaculate. The rolled true and a medium-fast+ pace. Greens are fairly docile but all have a couple of tough pin placements to make things challenging. Greens were soft enough to leave a pitch mark but getting the ball to stop was difficult (even on well struck shots). Bunkers had nice high quality sand in them. Tee boxes were level and lush.


Like I mentioned before, the track has some tight fairways and some wider ones to let loose on. A couple of water hazards add to the challenge. We took a cart put this would be a super easy course to walk as it’s completely flat. Lunch afterwards was enjoyable with the service outshining the food which was decent.

Finally made it out to Kings Country Club after several months of trying to coordinate the outing with a friend. Course is in very nice condition overall. Fairways were lush and green throughout with only a couple of brown spots throughout the course. Greens were very soft and receptive to approach shots. A couple of the greens had some ball marks but overall not bad at all. Whereas most greens were fairly flat and manageable to navigate, the interesting part was some of the greens were huge and others were tiny. If you played here enough you would know which ones you had room for error on. But like I said, most were flat so pin seeking wasn't a problem. The layout is completely flat with only one real water hazard coming into play. The par 5 13th hole is a blast with a moat around the green. I needed about 3-5 more yards on my drive to be comfortable to go for it in two so I had to lay up. Most of the holes tend to dog leg left, heavily rewarding a draw. If you have a natural fade or a slice, I could see how this course would wreak havoc on a player. Course is lined with trees throughout offering shade in the high summer temps in the valley but also placing a premium on accuracy. Sand traps were nice as were the tee boxes. Clubhouse has some nice style to it with a decent "café" type menu. We had an early tee time so I didn't utilize any of the practice areas. Overall the course was fun and well groomed.

Spring 2017 3-18-17 Played here for their impossible open. Greens were perfect and had been double cut and double rolled. Tees were all lush and level. Rough was consistent and thick at about 3-5". Fairways were halfway out of dormancy but all were playable. Sand is perfect white Torrey style playable and aesthetically pleasing. The layout is secluded and house free. The length at under 7k seems easier than it plays because of the narrow tree lined fairways and small well protected greens. It was one of those fantastically brutal days where you get punched in the face by the course and walk away smiling. Pins just feet from edges and/or on places where missed putts resulted in long (6' and 8' and on one hole 12') second putts because balls refuse to stop on the slopes with the 13' stimp speeds. Tees were more fair this year with all level lies on short grass but were still put in places where angles called for big curving tee balls and all were at the very tips (last year many were on slopes and/or in the rough and/or stymied). Our group scores/vs/hdcp, I somehow managed 86 playing off a 9 others were an 80/1 95/10 89/4 Edit to add: Johnny I have pics on my twitter if you want to add them.

Played 4-21 with sixpez on one of his normal golf binges. Absolute pleasure to finally meet Keith, whose blog has been a great source of info and entertainment. All the course details can be read in his review and I just need to add that -- the keep your eyes on the ball quote can be attributed to my "mystery lost ball" as well as a few other times when we literally drove right next to balls without seeing them the first time.

Played here this morning with Central Valley GK'er cencalhack, whose reviews I always find really helpful when visiting this area. It was great to finally meet and play with Tate after so much interaction through GK and Twitter. His friend is a member at this club, so he hosted us and we teed off a little before 7:00. Hardly anyone out there on a Thursday morning, so we enjoyed our own 3-hour pace and another friend joined us at the turn to round out our foursome.

The course was in solid shape all around. The timing today was a bit bad as they had just punched their greens and fairways last week, but I can see the conditioning here is generally quite nice. The tee boxes were good. The fairways were maybe a tad shaggy as they recover from the aeration, but I always had nice fluffy lies. The rough was lush and thick throughout. It is quite brutal in some spots on this course, so watch your ball carefully if you hit into the trees. I thought the sand traps were perfect. Just enough softness on top, but not overly fluffy, which is how I prefer them personally. The greens are a week-and-a-half out of aeration, so they are rolling slow and a bit bumpy in spots. Still they ran pretty true and I putted well, so no real complaints. Should be back to excellent in another couple weeks.

I really enjoyed this course. Very traditional old school Central Valley kind of layout with many types of mature trees lining the fairways, subtle mounding along fairways and surrounding the greens. Trees really come into play a lot (at least they did for me), but if you can keep it in the short stuff a good score can be had. Greens aren't too tricked out. Overall, an enjoyable classic track with plenty of character. Nice peaceful setting except for when the trains roll by.
