Played here, for first time, Friday 7/21, as part of my back to back with the GK group on Saturday, at Yocha Dehe. Appropriately priced, I played for 80$ for noon Friday tee time. Nice grass driving range, large practice green and a decent short game area as well. Very nice property in the town of Copperopolis, a long way from any significant towns, in the foothills of the Sierra Madre range. Homes around the course, but not in play anywhere, on large lots. The resort offers stay and play packages in bungalow / cottages near the clubhouse and first fairway. Looks like a great place for a long weekend with a few couples or buddy trip. Nice clubhouse, small-ish proshop, and a very cool patio / bar overlooking the 9th green. Very scenic course, through rolling hills and oak trees, a good amount of elevation change (especially on the back nine). Conditions were excellent and while I wouldn't normally compare one course to another course, since I played Yocha Dehe the very next day, I can say that Saddle Creek was in a little better condition. A little more lush, well covered and healthy fairways, and greens were almost perfect. Medium firmness and very clean. Rolled very well although were only medium fast. Bunkers well maintained and good fill. A couple a soft areas in fairways, due to excess watering I assumed, but prefer the lush green over little thin and dry. Very nice layout, I preferred the front a little better. More trees and interesting holes 1-9, than 10-18, but very challenging throughout. Water in play on 3 holes on front 9, only one with water in play on back. The elevation changes on back nine, made for a tougher half. More subtle elevation changes on front. Customer service was excellent throughout. Even though the property has a local, retirement community feel to it (lots of members and residents out on this day), I received the same top shelf service, all day, as if I were a member or resident. Very good food in the restaurant as well. Marshalls out on the course kept a good pace going and beverage cart came around 4 times, even with a 40 player shotgun event out in front of us. Perhaps my favorite customer service feature was having a staff member offer ice cold towels to all players, on the course. They drove around in the same way a beverage cart would, against traffic and offered the cold towels and water. Course also had water stations on every other hole, to ensure you kept hydrated. Highly recommend, and would consider the stay and play option given the location. Course has plenty of challenge and interest to play a couple of times in consecutive days.

Lots to love about this course and layout. A fairly challenging course with lots of elevation change and some narrow fairways. Had to hit a lot of good shots to have a chance to score. The whole course was in very good to great shape. My only complaints were some crowning on the tee boxes and unrepaired marks on quite a few greens. The fairways were lush, which I am not used to playing normally in Southern California. Some of the fairways were a little soggy as we played so early as they were being watered. The greens, aside from their pimples, were fantastic. They were receptive but fast and true, really enjoyed putting here. The proshop told me the rough is coming back to life after last year's drought made them disappear.

Was happy to pull up to a range with pyramids of balls waiting to be hit from well maintained areas. Disappointed with the yardage board being off by at least 20 yards from the day's hitting location. Maybe we were just there before they updated it? Was also a little disappointed that there were no GPS in the carts, just something I would think a high end resort would have.

It can be a trek to get to Copperopolis, but I definitely recommend playing here. I had a great experience, loved the course, didn't love the 1:30 drive, but plan on doing it again next summer when I'm in the area. Really enjoyed the aqua fresca in the lobby, too.

Played yesterday, which turned out to be a perfect weather day for that area. Got a senior rate of $55, this is $20 bucks below w the rack rate. All the people I dealt with were courteous, friendly, and helpful. I didn't have a tee time but as a single he put me out at 10:50 which allowed me to warm up on the range which was included in the price, as was the cart. I only hit a few balls, then went to the practice green to see how the greens were rolling, then headed to the first tee. I teed of at 10:40 and found that the greens were still pretty slow and bumpy from the aeriating about a week ago. This is and the POP are the only negatives for this course. It didn't take long to catch up with a couple on the third hole. They where 82 years old, I would call them Mr. & Mrs. Habersham. Even so they played faster than the four guys in front of us that where all over the course. We waited on every hole, finally finished at 3:35. They need marshals out there. The refreshment cart came by 3 times which was great.
The tee boxes are all level and provide good footing and plenty of space for ball placement. At this time the fairways are very lush and have no dry spots, great to play from. I was in rough a couple of times and found that it was lush and heathy and would quickly turn the club over if I didn't hold on tight. I was in three bunkers, the sand was white and just the perfect consistency for me.
All in all I would say go play this course now befor the water dries up. It's a very good layout with fair greens, lots of fun at this time.

Check in was a breeze, even picked up a new Taylormade Stratus golf glove at 50% off. Range balls free for warmup. Nice Range. Slight annoyance that thee teeing are is an uphill lie.

Course itself is in excellent shape. Fairways immaculate. Tee boxes are in great shape. Plenty of soft sand in the bunkers. Numerous environmental areas surrounding fairways are a bit difficult. Shotmaking and thinking are definitely key.

Only complaint is a personal preference. Poa annua greens made putting very difficulty for me. Couldn't gauge speed at all.

Saddle Creek Golf Club is part of a larger resort/housing development situated in the rolling Sierra foothills outside of Copperopolis. This course is nicely laid out across the rolling foothill topography and thus the majority of the course plays according to the undulations, only one or two holes might be coined as being flat. The course plays on the narrower side with water in play on six holes; in addition there are numerous environmental OB areas in conjunction with the surrounding foothill grasslands and oak growth alongside. There are no parallel fairways, homes border most of the back nine though the front nine is mostly void of established structures as the front nine winds through the back hills of the development.

Conditions of the course are excellent and well managed. The tee boxes were all level and pretty clean of broken tees, even the divoting on the par 3's was at a minimum due to the attentive groundscrew and players filling divots with sand. There were a few boxes that felt a bit mushy yet not wet enough to have water percolate from under your shoes when standing on them, this was the only minor imperfection which registered. The fairways for August are in great shape, again there were a rare handful of areas that were overwatered but again nothing to be up in arms about. I didn't really notice any browning or dead areas in the fairways or even within the rough which played thick. The sand traps were in good playing condition, I only noted one that was too wet to play at the low spot yet every other box appeared to be dry and in good playing order. The sand is of the nicer quality though it's distribution seemed to be a pinch thin, still it's playable. The greens were real fast, ball rolled very true. I haven't had the enjoyment of playing on greens this fast in a while, so it was nice to be reminded of what its like to play on quality greens.

As I was about one of ten people on the course for a Tuesday afternoon, the pace was unreal as I was able to play 27 holes of golf (with permission) in about 3hr 15min. I really enjoyed this course and would highly recommend it for most everyone to play; there is an air pretentiousness around this course so Joe sixpack might want to clean up a bit before coming out to play this fun design. Oh yeah...all the par 5s are reachable in 2, so warm the putter up and shoot for some feathers.

Played last week. Course in great shape got deal on EZ-links. Greens not as fast but rolled true. Tee boxes flat and not much damage. Fairways pristine. 1st cut and secondary rough not to penal. Since this is a foothill course, you get way off the fairways no telling what kind of lie you get. Bunkers a little compacted from water and some a little thin. One of my fav's.

Played here yesterday 9/12. Weather was perfect, high 80s. I had heard a lot of very good things about this course so I had hi expectations. In my opinion this is a good course with a few cheesie holes but I will not rave about it. Played as a single took 6 holes before I caught up to a two ball. Teed off at about 10:15 finished front 9 at about noon. It took 45 minutes to play the next 2 holes, and 11 is a par 3. I was ready to pack it in but decided to take a break and start again in about 20 - 30 minutes. Played the next 15 holes before I caught up to the two ball. The point is that this course plays very slow so be prepared.
As far as the course is concerned, the greens were fast and smooth running about 11 - 12. The layout is good at 6826 from the tips. The best whole is IMO is the par 5 18th, at 537yd it seems short but it requires about 245yds carry off the tee to get to the fairway, I average about 255 - 260 and just made it. For the most part though its just an average course. I have to add that there are some spots in the fairways that where just soaked and almost impossible to walk on.

Stayed in the bungalows, service was great, reccomend as a golf get-a-way.

Not a lot of GK reviews on this course, it's tucked up in the corner of Calaveras County and a road less traveled. New homes going up all around the area bringing in new clientele, and the course is popular amongst the locals. My third time here simply because of the great value: nicely appointed 'bungalows', unlimited golf on a challenging and beautiful course, good food, fantastic service, and things to do within a short driving distance. Highly recommended for the traveler looking for a nice golf resort in the central valley area.
