A bit of a late review. Not a whole lot to add to the prior review. The best part of the course would be the greens. Beyond that, not a lot of positives. Tee boxes still not totally open, so had to "make my own" tee box areas. The fairways are rather shabby right now as is the rough. I hope this is temporary.

I enjoy playing this course, now more than years ago, perhaps because it lacks all those "big" par four holes I can no longer reach in regulation. Still enough of a mix a holes to make it fun, and the green complexes just add to the enjoyment

Came into town to visit my old golf buddies. Played Brookside #2 today (6:50 t-time), POP 3 hours 40 minutes that a good thing. Also, the company was great, but that is where it ends. The greens where good and the ball holds good. The T boxes were basically closed for over seeding. That was the good and the bad. Now the ugly, the fairways and the rough. The fairways are a mixture of grass, weeds and dirt and the rough is about the same. I guess with football season going on it will only get worse.

Morning tee time. Check in and first tee well organized and smooth tee boxes have been reseeded and markers were bunched together in front of teeing area. It’s football season and the course is used for parking so some of the fairways have worn spots but the majority of the fairways have good coverage. Rough had been recently mowed and clippings were not picked up which made finding your ball difficult. Traps were well maintained. Greens were recently punched with small holes, thin layer of sand and some of the sand was in clumps. Hard to judge speed and putts not holding their lines give it a couple of weeks to recover. POP was very slow on the front and picked up on the back a little over 4.5 hours. Both courses were very busy.

Got a 1:30 slot on Friday 5/27 for our twosome and were joined by a sociable single. Overall conditions are pretty good but with some exceptions. Generous swaths of the first and 18th fairways have been roped off where the turf seems to have been damaged and is undergoing some kind of replacement. On the first fairway it begins around 220 yards out from the tee and continues for about 40 yards so it definitely has to be factored in to your tee shot and how you play the hole. On the 18th where the disruption crosses over, it is less of a factor because it starts closer to the tee and any reasonable tee shot will land well past it. As far as the rest, teeing grounds are in good shape and level, fairways are green and on the lush side, the rough is consistently grown in and will cost you a shot or more. The one bunker i visited had good sand but a bit heavy from dampness. Short game areas were in good shape for execution and the greens were clean, running the quick side of medium. The course was busy as usual and the pace was sluggish and not promising until things picked up around the ninth hole. As a result, it felt slower but we ended up getting around in 4.25 hours, which is pretty good. The range is undersized for two courses and frequently has a line waiting to hit, so give yourself extra time if you plan on warming up. For my own reasons, Brookside is not one of my favorites so I get there about once a year even though I am local, but I thought it was in good shape and played well.

Played on Sunday March 5. My advice is to stay away if you care about trying to play a regulation 18 hole golf course. Without any prior warning at time of booking, I arrived to find that they are doing major construction on the fairway of the first hole. The mysterious sign posted at check-in was "Holes #1 and #7 teebox is on #7 fairway". Hard to even understand what that means (especially at 5:50 am in the dark), but basically they have ruined the experience on both holes #1 AND #7 by putting a makeshift tee area on the fairway on #7. So the first hole becomes a weird 80-yard par-3 (who knows?) with a large tree directly in the line towards the green, and #7 also becomes shortened to a 160-yard whatever hole. They just don't seem to care about the golf experience for those who want to play course #2 right now. Oh well. The rest of the holes seemed ok. Some greens were oddly unfair with putts that would literally go in full reverse after being putted up the slope and back down to your feet. I wasted a couple hours this morning before I just walked off and decided that it wasn't worth the time, so hope this helps anyone out there. Call the pro shop and find out what the situation is before you play if you must.

Played #2 this morning (12/1), and have to say that the course conditions are pretty decent right now. I was first out at 6:20, and no one else showed up, so I played as a single the whole round. Course was pretty empty as I think people thought it was going to rain. The first hole still has that silly flat sandy waste area from about 220-260 yards out from the blue tee. Basically any drive that lands or rolls in that area is going to keep rolling through to the other side, which leaves a short wedge into the green. I wonder when they are going to put some grass back in there. Fortunately the green on the par-3 12th is back in play and looking pretty good. It's slightly slower and a little shaggy compared to the other greens. A word about the greens in general today -- super duper hard and fast, so be advised on approach shots. I didn't have any approach shots that were actually repelled off the green, but there's definitely a need to play for a bit more of a first bounce and some roll even on short irons. I really like fast greens, so it will be interesting to see how long it stays this way. Overall I'd recommend it right now.

Early morning round at Brookside #2. Check in and first tee very organized. Course is in rough shape first fairway was dirt and CPO. Really need to keep an eye on the cart GPS for CPO warnings on different holes. Many fairways had very little grass and our group decided to play LCP. Tee boxes were chewed up and had to search for a level place to tee from. Sand traps were well taken care of with good sand. Greens were lush and smooth, running a little on the slow side leaving quite a few putts short. #12 is closed again and the temp green was set on a mound of dirt.
Have not seen Brookside play this rough and would give it a month or so to heal.

Was hoping to get out on the #1 course but ended up playing #2. Prior reviews accurately depict the fairways, which were recently aerated. Did not play the ball down, so I was able to circumvent the conditions. Greens were good as were the bunkers, so turned out to be playable conditions. Playing the ball down would have been less than optimum. Enjoy the #2 course, because many of the holes on #1 are more than I can handle now. Plus the fact the the course does not come in after nine removes the issue of back nine play. Great price for seniors and an easy walk, which was appreciated given the warm temperatures. Staff is always friendly and accommodating.

Played Brookside twice in the last 10 days - once for a tournament, and before that, for a practice round. I hate to say it, but it isn't in good shape right now. They recently punched the fairways, which doesn't help, but besides that, there are many bare spots, muddy spots, unfilled divots, and areas devoid of grass, particularly because they use these courses as parking lots for the Rose Bowl (which is nothing new, but it's worse than it usually is).

The one bright spot was the greens, which I feel were in pretty good shape. They were pretty smooth, medium speed (but still make sure to stay below the hole). They are very small, which, combined with some narrow fairways, present a challenge on what is otherwise a fairly short course (though there are a few long par 4s).

Tee boxes were ok, and bunkers were actually pretty decent. But the poor condition of the fairways--which , to be fair, was partially due to recent aerification--was disappointing.
