Spent Sunday afternoon at Brookside #2 playing with a buddy from the blue tees and riding. Greens fee was a shrugging $78 with cart so not too bad but some question marks regarding conditions. We had a noon tee time and were paired with two cool young cats so it made for a fun day despite playing rather horribly.

The first hole remains a disaster with a massive chunk of the fairway turned into the world's largest waste area thanks to the Cruel World concert all the way back in May. Where the main stage was remains a wasteland that just happens to be in range of anyone decent's driving range. But once you get past that, it's alright.

Greens were actually running very fast and were the best part of the course. They're very tricky indeed as a defense for this generally short course that has no par 5s on the front nine. Holding greens can be tricky as well and the greenskeeper was in a devilish mood with some rough pin placements. But really good overall in that area.

The rest drops off significantly with lots of thin and dry areas around the course to detract from the good-decent sections. The rough is playable and not too scary. The bunkers were a little on the thin side but playable, while many of the tee boxes were beat up and lacking the proper coverage for anyone who doesn't opt for a tee on every hole. The overall conditions make good shots quite difficult.

Carts were in good shape and had a rudimentary but effective GPS system, while cart service was seen often and that was a good thing. POP was actually quite good surprisingly for Brookside on a Sunday as we finished in around four hours and twenty minutes.

Brookside #2 remains the inferior of the two courses at the Rose Bowl but with some TLC and a little more attention to detail it could be fun still.

Had a 7:00 am tee time. Walked with a buddy and an older couple. They were bang and go go go which was nice but they had little to no etiquette, if you know what I mean so with no one behind us we let them play on and never saw them! No one behind us for Three holes, we had the place to ourselves.. Tee boxes still show signs from aeration, as did some of the fairways. Fairways are very patchy with hard pan, dirt and some grass if your lucky. Bunkers were rock hard, all the way, including 18 fairway bunkers which my friend bounced out of with his drive, I mean it bounced out like it hit a cart path,! Lol. The best thing was pace of play, 3/12 and the GREENS!! Just slightly bumpy from aeration but firm and fast. If you know Brookside, the greens are super challenging but fun and held approach shots perfectly. Not bad but not great yet. Still fun but extra challenging conditions! GO PLAY!

Played in the Saturday Rancho Park Golf Club tournament at Brookside #2 and found the course to be lacking in a lot of areas, but it was still a fun day out despite the scorching temperatures that greeted us with a 10:20am tee time.

First off, the driving range is entirely too limited for a two-18 course with this much business. I wish they could find a way to improve that - maybe a second level? It's far from ideal having to wait in a significant line for a stall to open up with limited time before your call.

In terms of course conditions, again, it's not that great but it's playable. There is a massive dirt patch from the concert stages just before the green on the first hole and right after the tee box on the 18th. This section makes the Links at Victoria look like Bandon. After that it's better, but you're never going to confuse this 18 with the more pristine and challenging #1 course.

Greens were in good shape despite all the other issues - no real complaints there. Not too fast or anything, but solid enough. The fairways are dry, thin and a bit haphazard to be honest, but some of the holes are just fine. The bunkers were very thin and not great to hit from, while the rough was not penal in the least and just an extension of the thin conditions from the fairways. Tee boxes were pretty beat up but nothing too awful (we were assigned the white tees for my flight).

As previously mentioned, it was an incredibly hot day so thankful to have the cart service running around but I don't recall seeing a water station to refill the Hydroflask until around the sixth hole or so. Did I mention it was really hot? POP was not really high-intensity but then again it was tournament play so it's what one expects at those events.

So overall it's just not quite as satisfying as the other 18 at Brookside, but could be a heck of a lot closer if the conditions were more favorable. That's obviously tough to maintain though as the summer heat really starts to pound down on Pasadena.

Played Saturday 7/13 with an 11:30am tee time from the blues. Would have walked but learned the only way to book a walking rate is directly through their site or calling in. Cart on a hot day isn't the worst thing either.

They're doing some sort of renovation on the clubhouse as the restrooms between the pro shop and restaurant are out of order so you have to use the mobile trailer they have set up next to the starter window. Restaurant was very empty, but they have a decent menu if you want to grab a bite before or after a round. I ended up with a delicious breakfast sandwich and then went to the range to warm up. Unfortunately there are no distance markers or targets so it's hard to really dial in, but at least you can get loose.

Course is in good shape. Tee boxes were mostly level, though a few were definitely more sloped and you'd had to set up on the edge of the marker to be level. Greens were in very good shape, soft and receptive and running a little slower than i remembered. They were running sprinklers on certain fairways and greens during the round so speeds might have varied due to watering. Fairways were in mostly good shape, rough wasn't too tall or penal, and the bunkers i was in had some sand in them which was nice.

Tough track if you can't find the fairway! A lot of folks yelling "FORE" pretty constantly so keep your head on a swivel out there. The group in front of us was having a pretty rough go of it on a few holes but even with waiting on most tee boxes our foursome finished in a tidy 4 hours which i'll take every day of the week.

Out early on a very nice morning, not so cold any longer, which is appreciated. Not a lot has changed since the last time I played here in March. However, I seemed to find every bunker today and with lies being so thin/tight, with so little sand, it was a real struggle. Greens not as bumpy as expected, in fact they rolled fairly true. Still some issues on a couple fairways, but not a big deal. Fun short golf course to play. Has now become enough of a challenge to make it even more enjoyable than in my younger days. If you have only played the #1 course, suggest you give #2 a try.

Out Friday at 2:00pm as a twosome. Overall playing conditions were mostly good and consistent, teeing grounds through the fairways. An obvious exception is a big sandy/dirt swath crossing the first and 18th fairways that seems to be a permanent feature for the time being. On the first, it is in the landing zone and my buddy ended up in it. He dropped on the grass just short of it rather than play out of it. On the 18th, a decent shot will fly the patch and it is less of an issue. Rough is most often quite playable with some deeper sections and some dirt patches to be found. Bunkers were clean but firm with a fairly shallow, looser top layer. The greens were on the quick side and reasonably recovered, but there is a consistent residual bumpiness throughout. I'd say not enough to dissuade one from playing here as they were reasonably true and they will continue to improve, but be advised. Service was good and we could have launched 20 minutes early, but we stuck to our original time. Most surprising was the pace, which was just a touch over four hours — a nice change of pace for a course that tends to be fairly busy with commensurate slowdowns, so don't expect it. Honestly not one of my favorite local courses, so I only get here about once a year, but objectively and for those who like it or are curious, recommended.

Tough to find courses with reasonable rates, but fortunately Brookside still provides great rates for seniors. Wanted to play the #1 course, but ended up on #2, which turned out to be just fine as the "big" course is becoming a little more than this senior can handle. Too many long four pars. Course seems to have dried out since the last review and was in decent condition. Greens rolled well and had decent pace. Good coverage in the fairways. Rough was a bit inconsistent. Always enjoy playing this course as the green complexes are more interesting than the #1 course. Smaller and more difficult to hit. (But at least I can reach most of these holes)

I played here yesterday with a small tournament of just three foursomes. First group out at 9 AM. POP was about four hours. If you want to hit balls, you have to stand in line and wait for a station as the range is small. One of the two putting greens was open. The course itself is in great shape with lots of good grass coverage most everywhere. It was cart path only on a couple of holes and all the par 3's.

Greens here are relatively small. They were medium fast and looked great. Lots of subtle breaks and somewhat challenging.

Tees (we played the white tees) were decent. Good grass coverage and mostly level.

Fairways were very nice with the exception of the first hole. There's a large area that is low lying and had standing water and no grass. Lay up, then hit over this mess! Other than that, the rest of the course was great.

Rough was very playable; deep and penal at times, but almost no problem finding your ball.

There are many bunkers on this course, and they looked to be in good condition. The sand was not too deep, maybe a couple of inches over hard pan. They all appeared to be raked nicely.

We went into the bar area afterwards and the food/beverage service looked nice. It's a fun course and I would like to play here again.
