I haven't played this course since it they switched the 9's. Was lucky enough to get out on Monday (holiday) at 7:48am. Pace of play was not too bad, despite the slow 4-some in front of us, and the even slower twosome in front of them. It was a blessing getting out early as it appeared to get busier as the day progressed. I still hate the old #10, which is now #1, hole. Kind of a really dumb layout. I also don't like finishing the front 9 on a par 3. I miss the old par 3, which would be #6 Hole (old #15.) I've always liked this track, not the greatest, but can be fun with a few challenging holes. I have always been impressed how they've maintained the greens here, for as much play as they get. They hold yet role rather smooth (not too fast, and not slow at all.) I do wish there was enough money that the city would put a little more TLC to the fairways and also the palm trees and landscaping. Those first two opening holes are horrendous looking with hard pan, dry fairways. And a net would be nice to separate the driving range from the #1 fairway as to not have to spend more than the needed time to look for your ball amongst all those range balls. Other than that, I don't play this course very often, but when I do, as long as I'm having a good to decent round, as I did this day, I thoroughly enjoy playing here. A lot more than the madness at Wilson or Rancho.

I have now played this course several times over the past 2 months. I will be moving to better pastures for at least a few months. The pace of play here is not daunting, but 4.5-5 hours is typically especially on the weekends. I played Monday the 19th, teeing off at 7:50. Played with a couple great guys, but the movement in front of us was rather sloth like.

The tee boxes definitely need some work. I think this course sees a lot of action, because almost all the tee boxes were really cut up. The rough on the course is probably my biggest gripe. You have no idea what to expect from hole to hole. Some holes the rough is really thick and lush, other holes it is sparse grass with gravel and hardpan. The fairways are well maintained on most holes. The sand bunkers are in excellent shape from the few I visited, plenty soft, well raked and fresh. As some of my previous posts have pointed out the greens here are excellent. They run much faster than they appear, and some are quite difficult to read. Saw very few unrepaired divots, and the over all condition was good.

With some more rain and TLC the rough would see some great improvement. Hopefully when I return in a few months the course will have improved. Overall though you get what you pay for at this course, and it is what is expected from a local muni.

Just played Hansen for the first time after they flipped the course. What a bonehead idea. Previously you started the front side on a relatively open par 4 and then a little more challenging par 5 which allowed you to warm up your game. Now you start on one of the worst designed holes in public golf in SoCal, following with a marginal short par 4 that creates backups as the group in front waves you up. And to add insult to injury, the only reason they made the change was to require all golfers to go by the restaurant/bar after 18. Of course anyone with a cart takes it to the shed as always. Duh.

They've also eliminated a very nice par 3 (formerly #15) in favor of adding a finishing par 3 that creates danger for golfers on the second green (see one of the previous posts).

All said, this was an incredibly stupid change for all the wrong reasons. Truly unfortunate because this course does have some nice holes and the greens are always among the best in muni golf in the Southland.

Played the front nine twice this past week. 7 out of the 9 tee boxes were in rough shape. Especially the par 3's (7 + 9), they are un-level and essentially just sand/divot mix, hardly a blade of grass to be seen. The rough is rather thin, and very forgiving on most holes, didn't see any sand traps but they looked well raked and in good condition.

The greens were probably the best part of the course, in good shape very few ball marks, and they ran surprisingly fast. A couple of my putts that I thought were short, ended up running 3 feet past. Course needs a little more TLC.

Second time I have played Hansen Dam since they have changed hole #s 2 and 9 and I for one don't like it. Are they trying to get someone KILLED? For the second time we were putting on number two's green and a ball on the fly went OVER the green!!!!!! The last time we played here, we were on number nine green and a ball came rolling across the green. What was the matter with the way it was (the old back/front what ever you want to call it)?

As for the rest. The greens were as fast as I have ever seen them (maybe 8 or 8.5). I like it, but it took some getting use to and I hope they keep it up. The rest of the course is typical for Hansen Dam (see review).

Played a GK Match at Hansen on Sat, 12/10 with Cobra1788. Pro Shop and Starters were very friendly and got us off about 10 minutes past our start time. Hadn't played here in a couple of years and not since they switched the nines...which I don't really understand why they did, but that's another discussion for a later time!

Layout isn't the most challenging in town, but still was enjoyable. Course conditions overall were very good with tee boxes in reasonable shape, fairways clearly defined and fairly tight (winter like conditions) with not too many bare spots. Rough was not penal and in some cases lies were actually a little better than hitting off some very tight fairway lies.

The practice green was very soft, spongy and not indicative of the actual course greens, which I thought were very nice. Very receptive and could throw some darts right at the flags. Not too many extra balls marks to repairs, so there are some thoughtful golfers in the Pacoima area. Green speed was suprisingly quick, especially if you were above the hole!

Pace of play was typical for Sat muni play at right at 5 hours. 19th hole is well stocked and also has a friendly bartender to serve your after-round beverage of choice.

Overall a good experience and I'll certainly go back when the opportunity presents itself!

Started about 4pm with a walking group of 4 for the STW deal. This review is ONLY for the front nine holes. Pace of play was just over 2 hours with 4 walkers ahead of us. We finished last hole 9 just as it got too dark to see.

Course was in great shape and we had a great time.
Tee boxes were all level and in good condition.
Fairways were well groomed with little to none for divots.
Rough was long enough to provide a challenge but not bury the ball.
Sand traps looked good, but I missed all of them so can't say for certain.
Greens still showing punch marks from recent aeration, but they were lush and recovering well.

This may be the easiest regulation length par 72 course in LA (and it has decent length from the tips at almost 6700 yards). Wide open off the tee with virtually no hazards to cross, fairways and greens are big targets and what little bunkering is out there is not really in play. A few holes have elevation changes but most are flat. Greens have few big breaks or undulations - most are pretty flat throughout.

Conditions: fairways level/tee boxes undulating. Lots of clover in amongst the kikuyu in both the fairways and rough. Greens were by far the softest things I've seen this year - it was like putting on top of my sofa and more than once incoming balls completely embedded in the green. Bumpy as can be. Sand: wet and hard-packed.

Pace was slow as was stuck behind classic muni golf foursome. They ended up about 4 holes out of place. All in all, about what you'd expect for 30 bucks walking!

Played on 9/18 tee time 11am. We went as a twosome and at the 17th the wait was bad.. Joined up with a 3-some to finish up. Greens were really nice and rolled smooth. Tee boxes were like punched but had no effect on the game.. pace was good for about 8 holes then it slowed down.. fairways were in good condition and didnt see any bare spots.. Some bare spots in the rough and around some traps and the traps were nice not too hard and not too soft.. The starter was a great guy and the staff was friendly. The carts are brand new so get there while you can to drive a new cart!! Overall I really enjoy playing here. course is in the best shape I have ever seen it!!
