Teed off at 10:30 on President's Day. Finally finished at 4:00 pm. Horrible pace of play. The course, however, is in great shape. The greens were the best I've seen in an L.A. muni. They were firm & fast and broke true. Plus, they would hold a good shot. The fairways were lush with some muddy areas from the recent rain. The rough was not too high, but could definitely cause problems. My major complaint were the tee boxes. None were very level. I always felt like I was leaning sideways or the ball was below or above my feet. Several boxes had a fair amount of damage. The sand was inconsistent. I've got to stop playing on holidays. The pace is too slow and $55 for an L.A. resident is way too steep. Still, this is the best muni in the Valley.

I just played Hansen last Saturday (2/5/11) and I was really impressed. I've played there many times and this was the best condition I have ever seen it. As a regular player at the city muni's this might have been the best condition I have ever seen at ANY city course. That said, the reversed nines are terrible. The entire character of the course is gone. 1. the old 18th (the TOUGHEST green of all the munis) was the best finishing hole on the city courses. Now it's the 8th hole. The 9 now ends with a par 3. I hate that. 2. The new 17th and 18th are terrible finishing holes. 17 is tight and awkward and 18 is way too long (more later). 3. The new 18th hole is 450 yards uphill from the tips. It's is far out of line with the rest of the holes on the course. Considering the elevation at the end of the hole, it easily plays over 500 yards. 4. the #2 is too short. I can easily reach the green from the black tees and I am not the biggest hitter. It's 250 yards!

Played on Saturday, January 15, 2010. Off at 10:15 with a 10:00 tee time. First couple of holes are slow, then the pace opens up. It was still about 5 plus hours to finish. The course is in great shape right now. Lush conditions throughout. Greens are medium fast and smooth. I did not see any putts hop at all. A couple of tee boxes were a bit beat up, but overall the course is as good as an LA muni gets. My one complaint is the price: $45 non-resident walking rate.

Played Monday after X-Mas. I usually get on right away playing single on a Monday but had to wait 45 minutes to join a threesome. Too many golfers anxious to get out after the week long rain. The conditions were pretty good for a muni, especially for a LA city course. Some parts of the fairways were still too soft due to the rain but overall both the fairway and the greens were in good condition. Negatives: tooooo slow. Took me 5+ hours for a Monday morning round starting around 9:30 a.m. It didn't help that idiots behind our group kept hitting into us. Aside from the slowness and annoying golfers, it was nice.

Played Hansen at 8:30 on Friday and never heard a course say "no carts today". I guess they were switching to new electric carts on the 1st of the year and their current supplier took his carts back on the 30th not 31st. No carts = a lot of walkers = people slowing down by the 9th hole. The round took over 5 hours but I expected that without carts. The greens were very odd, some had tons of break and others were perfectly flat. Fairways and tee boxes weren't bad. With recent rain, the bunkers were like wet cement, very thick. The course really does not do a good job of maintianing these traps, they hadn't been raked in a few days.

Nothing bothers me more than paying $40 to walk a course and have it be in worse shape than course I pay $50 with a cart. All of the county/city courses seem to have been slacking recently with their maintenance and customer satisfaction. You would think that with so many people walking they'd have a cart girl to refresh us with Gatorades, Bud Lights, and hot dogs - there was not a single cart girl all day. This course was convenient because I live near it but I would not jump at the chance for another 5+ hour round with poor bunkers and no on-course beer service.

We only waited for 3 holes, the first two were from holes 1 & 2 (short par 4's). Greens were perfect as always and so were the tee boxes. This is a great walking course and offers lots of challenging shots at every turn. Great job to the crew...

Front nine and back nine are switched. Not a big fan of the switch, but since they changed some of the holes, i dont think they wanted to end the round on a par 3. Course conditions are decent, but the greens got really bumpy late afternoon due to foot traffic.

First time on the new layout (flipped the nines, removed the par three at the old #15, placing it at #9, playing to the old #11 with #2 playing to the old #11 alternate green on the left). It's a slow start on the new layout with two short par fours; hole 2 being driveable for most players. They really need a marshal over there making people wave up following groups. After that, it's across the wash to a decent length par 5 where things open up. Greens were medium pace but a little bumpy. Soft enough to hold most any shot. Tees, fairways, and rough were in good condition. It appears that the tee boxes were aerified recently. Sand (I was in three traps) was good and traps were well raked. Four sets of tees now, with black, blue, yellow with total yardage at 6669, 6358, 6098, and 5421. I did not like the new rate structure at #40 walking (resident).

Played Friday, 8/06/10, 8:48 tee time. Parking lot fairly empty and pace of play was decent. Generally, course is in fine shape, although it was a little wet in some areas, including some of the greens. Maybe the cooler August weather has a little to do with that. They have not yet flipped the nines. The greens were spongy and soft, but playable with a medium-slow speed. Number 9 green seems to be recovering from some kind of fungus; lots of brown spots all over. The rest of the greens seemed fine. Number 11 played to the (driveable) alternate green on the left. Very consistent conditions from tee to green; fairways mowed tight and rough mowed to about 1".
