Played a GK Cup match with Kg1791 today on the Classic course. Kevin's review was pretty accurate regarding course conditions.

For all but the par 3 boxes, they were fairly level, very well covered and cut to a short length. 3-par boxes were a bit rougher with many more divots, and a couple were also a bit crowned/uneven in places.

Fairways were well manicured and very few thin or browning areas.

Rough was probably about 1.5 inches and not particulary punitive. I was only in one trap (greenside), and found it to be in nice shape.

Greens were in excellent shape; very receptive to well struck shots and putts ran very true with not many unrepaired divots to bounce them around. Kudos to the public for helping to keep these OC greens some of the best I played recently.

Pace of play on this afternoon round was right at 4 hours, another treat I'm not used to!

Certainly would recommend you get out and play here while the conditions are this nice!

Played on Sat, 12/8 with Caligolfer in a GK West bracket match. Practice area includes range, chipping green w/trap and putting green, all of which were in average shape, with the putting green a bit rough. Thankfully the course greens were in nicer shape!

Off about 15 minute late for our scheduled time and the course was packed, so POP was a very slow 5 1/2 hours. Marshall came around several times, but while friendly, was not able to offer any relief. Several times during the round we arrived at the next tee and 4-some in front of us hadn't teed off, with a few times two groups on the tee. Saw the friendly cart girl on each nine.

Overall greens were in nice shape with not too many unrepaired divots. Speed was probably only maybe an 8 on the stimp, fairways were in general not too bad, with a few more thin spots on front side vs. the back. Rough was not penal nor very thick, and traps were in decent shape, though there were far too many rocks in many of them (watch your clubs!).

I'd play again, but next time would get a much earlier time!

Played a GK Match at Hansen on Sat, 12/10 with Cobra1788. Pro Shop and Starters were very friendly and got us off about 10 minutes past our start time. Hadn't played here in a couple of years and not since they switched the nines...which I don't really understand why they did, but that's another discussion for a later time!

Layout isn't the most challenging in town, but still was enjoyable. Course conditions overall were very good with tee boxes in reasonable shape, fairways clearly defined and fairly tight (winter like conditions) with not too many bare spots. Rough was not penal and in some cases lies were actually a little better than hitting off some very tight fairway lies.

The practice green was very soft, spongy and not indicative of the actual course greens, which I thought were very nice. Very receptive and could throw some darts right at the flags. Not too many extra balls marks to repairs, so there are some thoughtful golfers in the Pacoima area. Green speed was suprisingly quick, especially if you were above the hole!

Pace of play was typical for Sat muni play at right at 5 hours. 19th hole is well stocked and also has a friendly bartender to serve your after-round beverage of choice.

Overall a good experience and I'll certainly go back when the opportunity presents itself!

Played again at SA today. Many tee boxes are under repair so course plays a bit shorter than normal. However, as noted here in GK, they just finished punching the greens last Mon/Tues, with big holes and sand. So...unless you enjoy seeing your putts hop around like they were in a pachinko machine, I STRONGLY suggest you play elsewhere until the greens heal...and I give them a good month to heal!

Played a match at SA on Friday, 9/16 and I can attest that many of the tee boxes are being renovated (most all of the par 4 and 5s), so the course is playing shorter than normal. I ran into the superintendent during the round and he said the work should be finished towards the end of October.

Overall I thought the course was in pretty decent shape. Greens rolled fairly true; looked like the public has been doing a better job of repairing ball marks and I didn't quite so many extras to repair! Traps were in good shape, but fairways were a bit thin in spots...but only serious bare spots I found were around the cart paths near tees and greens. Rough was a bit inconsistant with some of the areas fairly lush and others a bit thin.

I believe the greens are going to be punched next Mon/Tues. Practice green had already been punched and they used the small needles, so it actually was not too bad. If they do they same on the course, then it will still be fairly decent. However, you might want to play a few other places until mid-late October...should be in nice shape again at end of next month.

Played today (Sat 8/27) as part of a small tourney. Warm up balls were included in the price and the staff was very pleasant and got all of our groups off right on time!

Overall conditions were very good with not too many bare spots in the fairways, rough was very manageable, although there were spots that were rather dense and could be a little tough advancing the ball (which is why they call it rough!). Greens were running pretty smooth, held shots well, and were pretty consistant throughout the course. Bunkers were very good and gave you a chance to get up and down with a well executed shot.

Saw the cart girl three times, though could have used her again on the back nine when it was well over 100 and not much shade was to be found. Marshalls came around often to check on us, bringing ice water to for towels (which helped keep our necks from frying). Looking forward to playing this course again, though I will wait for some cooler weather!

It had been over three years since I last had played the course, and despite the recent poor reviews, I decieded to brave the 100+ degrees and the Creek at try. Well, the greens were pretty nice, but that's about all the positives I can give the course.

The sign inside the cart mentions that the course is being forced to cut back on watering, and the conditions certainly show this to be true. Tee boxes were pretty chewed up, fairways were inconsistent with lots of thin spots which of course the ball always seem to find. Rough was a joke...some areas where the sprinklers were hitting were fairly lush, but mostly they were splotchy with lots of holes between small tufts. It was like you were constantly hitting out of divot holes, but they weren't divots...just low spots were the grass didn't grow in. Can't really comment on the sand as I never found any of the bunkers today.

Pace of play was nearly 5 hours from a late morning tee time. Could have been better, but we were behind 3 foursomes that probably didn't anyone score under the temperature for the day. Wish I had booked a time at Redhawk, SCGA or Temecula Creek...won't be back for at least another 3 years.

Took advantage of an email special and played on Sun, July 18th for $50 - well worth the rate. A target style track with lots of elevation changes, forced carries and plenty of desert-like areas to keep you from always blasting away with your driver. Greens were punched two weeks ago, so they were a little softer and slower than I expected but still rolled pretty nice. Most putts held their line pretty well. A few of the tee boxes were a bit uneven, but only a minor complaint. Fairways were in excellent shape, and rough could be penal at times. Only issue with the course were the sand traps. Very hard compacted sand - you definitely don't want to short-side yourself or you will have no chance for an sand save. Definitely will be coming back again. Nice track!

Played Sat 9/12, taking advantage of AGC's email special. Realized pretty quickly it was I that was taken advantage of.
Course conditions - very spotty, lots of bare spots, several mushy areas from poor sprinkler conditions. Greens - were not close to being healed from aeration (despite earlier reviews to the contrary). Probably was running about a 5 on the stimpmeter, and very bumpy. Had to slam the putts from short range to keep them on line. Layout - a few interesting holes, but for the most part pretty forgetable. Pace of Play - 5:15, with waiting on every hole thru 14, then a small break, and finally waiting again on 18th tee. Sand traps - looked fairly decent, but can't really comment as I avoided them for the round. Overall - not worth your time until the course conditions improve. At least the carts were pretty zippy!

Played on Sun, 6/3 as part of a small tournament, of which many were higher caps so it played very slow.

I echo the thought of t25452 - course has a nice layout and conditions were pretty good...except the greens. Numerous unrepaired pitch marks and scars and they still have not fully recovered from verticut...made for some pretty average putting surfaces.

Will play it again, but will wait until greens return to better conditions.

Played Sat, 10/8 for first time on this gem. Course was in nice shape with only complaint being some very soggy bunkers, especially on #18. Even asked the starter about the condition to see if they were playing them as GUR...nope! "They're bunkers, not sand traps". Right he was as there was hardly in sand in 'em!.

As other posts mention, important to assess each hole before you tee off...gripping and ripping here will get you some big numbers. Expect a few 3 putts as the greens are a bit tricked up, and hard. Only well struck shots will sit/stay.

Will be back again soom!

A great course - one of my favorite tracks! Conditions are excellent, from tee to green and everywhere in between. A challenge for all who tee it up! And...one of the best value courses in the state.

FYI, Gold tees are now the White tees, White have become Blue and Blue tees are now the Blacks. Probably a good idea as many players should be playing the whites on this beast!

If you have a chance, take a drive to this out-of-the-way gem and you will not be disappointed!
