First time playing Hansen Dam, Sunday tee time at 4:40pm. A friend and I walked while another older couple rode. Really enjoyed the course and it's conditions. We felt that the bunkers are well-placed just to make you think about your tee shots and approaches.
No complaints about the fairways and rough. The greens also ran well, except for the unrepaired divots.
The front 9 is easily walkable, but 10-12 has a few huge hills that killed my legs. Next time I play that late, I might only play the front 9.
We ended up getting through 14 holes with enough daylight and played 15 and 16 near-dark.
Barely had to wait at all, but the group behind was breathing down our neck a little.

Teed off at Hansen Dam as a foursome on 7/15/20 at 6am. Pace of play was perfect at 3.5 hours. We never waited on a shot on this cool, cloudy morning. Overall, the course is in good shape. The roughest part of the course is the tee boxes. Some are unlevel, thin, and hard to stick a tee in the ground. But this didn't really bother anyone.

Fairways are mostly lush, with nice padding under your ball. There were some areas that were burnt and yellowish, but they didn't come into play very often. The rough is 1-3 inches and fairly consistent and playable. I was in one sand trap. There was plenty of nicely raked, medium sand. Easy to hit from. The greens were running medium speed for the most part. They were generally smooth, soft, and receptive to well struck approach shots. The course is very enjoyable to play right now. Recommended.

I played Hansen Dam on Sunday 6/14, my first round since knee replacement in Feb. Needless to say, great to be back! Overall the course is in fine condition. We went off around 8am as a 3some (1 no-show wuss.) Due to Covid, single carts (we had 1 walker.) We played in 4 hours10 mins. The tee boxes are in good shape, the fairways as good as I've seen them over a 30 year period. Greens were really good, med speed, with a few too many pitch marks. No rakes in the bunkers, but they had been dragged, no issues there. Carts have GPS & speakers. The Dam is an LA City muni. I think it's much more interesting than the other 3 SFV city courses with some elevation changes although uphill #10 is quirky. A couple Covid notes, Reservations only, no wait list. I believe CC only. Many courses are not including divot fixer on the carts? WHY?? It ain't that hard to disinfect that little bottle when doing the rest of the cart! Recommended for a fun time.

Played here today with my buddy, Dean. The course looked to be in good shape. Everything was mowed and it looked like there was no debris under the trees; I don't think I have ever seen the course so manicured. A couple of fairways had irrigation running in some hot spots, but mostly it was not a problem. The check in process was typical C-19 protocols; maybe a little over the top with the signage requiring masks, no cash, no sharing of carts-no exceptions (we shared a cart). I had a confirmation from Teeoff.com for a 10:10 tee time, but he did not have me down. In fact, that foursome was booked; however, the starter got us out in an earlier group so kudos to him.

Greens: running medium fast, no bumpiness, and nothing unusual happening there. I would say it probably doesn't get too much better for a muni.

Fairways and rough: They were mowed and you could see a discernible difference in height between the two. Great roll out in the lower cut of the fairways. The rough was not too penal either.

Tees: We played the white tees and I did notice that many were very firm and sometimes it was difficult to stick a tee in. For the most part, it was all very level across the board from black to blue and white.

Bunkers: I visited a couple. No issues with the conditions. They both had ample sand; maybe a little firm, but easy enough to hit from. No rakes, obviously, but there were not many footprints to be seen.

I can honestly say that for the money we paid, it was worth it. I would prefer to walk, but my buddy wanted to ride since he sold his Clicgear about two years ago when he was not golfing. The power carts here have a decent gps with hole maps, so it was a benefit to ride. I think the rate is $29 to walk and $47 to ride. We did see a lot of walkers in when we got there, but as the morning went on it became mostly riders. Pace of play was just okay; we finished in 4.5 hours, but the front nine was agonizingly slow at about 2.5 hours.

Clear skies and mid breeze of 12-16 mph wind kept the day interesting with the guys matches I was with.

The course was in okay shape and very playable with the roughs and fairways being lush. Tall thick roughs but a few times the ball sat on top the thick grass though it can also sink in the bottom and troubles could start from there. The fairways were fine in its typical closely mowed length and not much divot damages.
The teeing grounds were also lush and there were plenty of places or spot to chose from to to tee it. Mostly level and some had slight uneven grounds.
The bunkers were okay with some sand quality and base inconsistencies which is typical here on this course.
The greens looks good, although it was slow and a little bumpy at times.
No beverage carts here.
Staff was accommodating at check in. Cart barn guy was okay helpful.
Social distancing in effect. Rules were posted around the proshop- mask required at all times throughout the course, proshop and driving range.

Played last Saturday with t8fish. We had a 10:56 time; I arrived early and used the chipping and putting greens as well as the range. We paid $39 to walk, but they do have carts available with a decent GPS. It's winter still, but the weather was nice with temperatures in the low to mid 60's. The kikuyu and Bermuda grasses are mostly dormant but still have a faint tint of green. As t8fish noted, the white tees (many of which have been constructed in front of the older tee box area within the last couple of years) are firm but level with the exception of Hole 10 where the whites were moved up to just behind the old red tees. Practice areas: The range has lots of targets (some metal signs and a stack of barrels) and approximate yardages. There are stalls with mats (some are covered), but the right side was moved up to the grass; maybe for lessons. It's a downhill shot to about 150, then it goes uphill to the end of the range as you are basically hitting into the slope of the dam itself. Greens: Nice conditions on most every green. Good quality bentgrass with some evidence of poa. There were some micro punched holes that are healing nicely, so it did not affect the roll. They played medium fast. Very few ball marks to fix, which was nice. Fairways and rough were mostly dormant, but plenty of turf and root zone to allow for nice full shots. There was an occasional tight lie, but I did not find any. Only a few areas were overly wet or dry. Bunkers: All seemed to be in good condition. They were raked and the edges were crisp. Some looked like they could use some fresh sand, or more sand, but overall no real complaints. Tees: As noted above, the tees we played were fine with the exception of Hole 10. That tee was tilted forward and was overly wet. Hole 5 tee seemed to be rebuilt/releveled and had evidence of newly placed sod (kikuyu grass that was most likely cut from the course and placed onto the leveled teeing ground). The newly built tees were mostly very firm and one of our foursome actually had trouble pushing in his tees. I like the course and recommend it highly. It's a muni. It's fairly cheap to play. My only issue was the pace of play; we finished in 5 hours and 15 minutes. That's too slow in my opinion. Overall, though, it was a fine day. The greens are in good condition right now. Go get some!

Out Saturday 2/29, for a 10:58 start with Kviser for our GK Cup match, paired up with another twosome — all playing the whites. I though the overall conditions were fine. Except for the 10th, most teeing grounds here are pretty level with coverage. A few were extra hard for tee insertion and at least one was soggy. There is now generally more separation between the respective tees (black, blue, white), with newer white ones built forward of, and augmenting the previously existing tee boxes on a number of holes. Whites are a bit more playable now. Fairways were in good shape for winter and I don't recall any real issues with my lies or the coverage overall. Of course, a bit more rollout now. There are some bare and/or rocky areas in the rough, but mostly there is grass that was anything from almost fairway-like, to some deeper, more penalizing stuff. On average it wasn't too costly. I was only in one fairway bunker, reasonably groomed and playable, albeit with some small stones scattered about. Green-side areas were usually pretty decent for chipping, sometimes tight, and less often a bit clumpy. The greens themselves were in good shape, firm, and running a medium quick with a minimum of ball marks. Weather was pretty nice with the breeze flirting with a two club bump at points, but more often more like one. Pace was on the slow but steady side at around five hours. Probably one of the better LA City courses with regards to the consistency of conditions, I recommend it.

Played on Monday, 2/24 early morning. No need to add to the previous, thorough review. But there is one thing I should mention. Many of the greens have been punched with small holes. This did affect line and smoothness (a little bumpy at times) some. It wasn't too bad. But it is noticeable. Also, I want to add that this course is in better shape than any of the L.A. courses in the Sepulveda basin area. I also appreciate the fact that there is no sticky kikuyu grass around the greens to mess with chipping. Makes a big difference.

Played with a fun threesome this Sunday at Hansen Dam. We had a 10:08 tee time and I had enough LA City points on my card that I got the round and my cart for free, so that was nice! Apparently I have plenty more points as well so may take more advantage of that in the future.

As for the course itself, it appeared to green up a bit more than usual thanks to the recent rain. I found the course to be overall in good winter shape with a few bits here and there that could use some fixing. But generally speaking, it's in good shape.

The greens were the highlight with consistent rolls, medium-fast speed and nice coverage. They held shots pretty well and made some decent-sized pitch marks when landing. Some of the greens at Hansen are a bit extreme in terms of their slope but for the most part they're gimmick-free and pretty simple.

Fairways are in decent to nice shape overall, but you will find some thin areas here and there. However, you're also going to find some very nice lies - it's hit or miss in those fairways, but nothing too terrible. The rough is a mixed bag when you're in the trees or off to the side hills, but anything fairways adjacent is pretty tame. Tough to see where fairways end and rough begins on many holes.

Sand was okay - not great, but not terrible. Tee boxes were flat and level but a few of them needed to be moved perhaps. You could see they were trying to find the best spots for them so that should be acknowledged.

POP was pretty good throughout the day as we found a nice sweet spot in the day and were rarely left waiting for too long, nor did we feel much push from the group behind us. No cart service all day is problematic, but I can't remember ever seeing it at Hansen Dam. Perhaps they should?

It was a gorgeous day for golf with light winds and nice low-mid 70s temps - can't ask for more than that. I'm not always the biggest fan of Hansen, but it was fun yesterday and playing my best round there since 2017 or so certainly didn't hurt. Will be back again I'm sure.
