Played twilight on 2-23-14. Compared to the last time I played, the entire course looked much more lush, especially the fairways. Most of the greens were smooth although there were a couple on the back nine where the bumps were pronounced. I was able to finish 15 holes starting at 1:20 pm... not too bad. Overall, I was happy with the condition of this muni, and hope to be back soon.

I'd like to challenge anyone that says Wilson is in better shape right now. Played Harding today & it was in very good condition considering the time of year & the drought we're in. Not to mention the weather was perfect & I played well!

Starter was very friendly-waved us over to the window inside to get us out quickly & gave us a few tips.

Tee boxes were all in very good shape, only a few divots here & there even on par 3s. They must move them a lot because they are fantastic, very lush.

Fairways for this time of year were also in great shape, mowed nicely & also lush. Some yellowish patches here & there as well as some patches of different types of grass here & there but definitely nothing to cry over-very good to hit off of.

Rough was surprisingly consistent for a muni-lush & thick enough to make a difference in the majority of areas. Seemed to be around the greens where the majority of problems were (ie, brown, dead spots) but usually in places where you typically wouldn't end up in.

I would have to say the bunkers were in near-perfect shape. Staff must have filled all of them with new sand or something because they were a treat to hit out of (& I was in quite a few more than normal!) Nice & fluffy.

Greens however, are a different story. There weren't many ballmarks, but they looked to be recently punched as they were quite bumpy. Had some big hops that sent balls waayyy offline (though when in doubt, play the break away from the mountains).

Overall a good price, good POP, & good course conditions. Hopefully it will stay nice throughout the spring as I am sure it will get more play.

I played here today. I booked a 10:00 time as a single on their online system. $5 booking fee a bit much, but worth it to me rather than risking wait list at such a busy facility. Turned out not to be necessary. When I got there, it wasn't super busy around the clubhouse and they let me head out right away to join a twosome on the first tee at 9:20. $40 to walk as a non-resident. The course was plenty busy, though, but still moved along at a reasonable 4.5-hour pace. The course was in average or maybe a bit below average "muni" shape from tee to green. Fairways and rough pretty spotty as sngernz describes, but I always ended up with decent fairway lies. I did encounter a lot of overly-wet mushy/muddy spots in the rough. Those areas weren't pleasant to hit from. I found two bunkers. The first was fantastic (#2) and the second (#15) was pretty crusty and not great. Where I disagree a little with sngernz is the quality of the greens. I thought they were very nice. I did notice a few unrepaired marks on most greens, but no more than I encounter on most other courses. Actually less damage than I would expect mid-day on a city course that gets this much play every day. Otherwise, they were very soft/receptive and putts rolled quite smooth, true and relatively quick for our group. Other than the holes closest to the freeway, the wonderful Griffith Park setting is very enjoyable for a muni course. The layout isn't anything too dramatic or challenging on Harding, but it was enjoyable enough for me today. The starter was nice and the guys I played with were a lot of fun, so I went away satisfied. From what I could see of Wilson (and judging from sngernz review), it did look to be in nicer shape than Harding right now, so I hope to get out on that track soon to enjoy it at its best.

Played on Harding Sunday and must say the conditions are not even close to the Wilson, tee to green. Lots of standing water in low areas, unmarked, and uneven fairways. Some terrible lies due to lack of maintenance. Greens had many more ball marks than Wilson, too ... shorter, a bit tighter, but not a course I'd play again. Sorry to downgrade it after my last visit in June but I gotta call 'em like I see 'em. Play the Wilson, skip Harding. Oh, yeah, PoP not terrible at 4:40 with some stack up on the front nine.

First time to play the Harding on Sat. am, $40 to walk. Surprisingly, found the layout scenic with the Griffith park surroundings and although the course is not too much of a challenge, it was a nice morning. Greens were in great shape,quick and true, and the fairways gave us good to decent lies on most occasions. Rough was long and patchy, probably due to the LACC which was going on. Hats off to marshall Kang who was alerted of a slow group ahead of us (1.5 holes behind on #6) and got them moving ... good job. PoP ended up just under 5 hrs but could've been much longer if the slow poke didn't get the word ... it was just one guy spraying his ball everywhere and then taking his time on the greens like he was a PGA pro ... just amazing to watch. Overall impression was that this is a old and well used facility, but it has distinct character (if you look beyond the fact that it's a muni). I'll be back sometime to check out the Wilson which I hear is a more challenging track. Recommended.

Sat 4-27 of in 5th group- 4 walkers in 3:55- excellent pace. I can now report bad news: One of the best starters around is, as SF Giants voice Duane Kiper says, " Outttaaa Hereeeee!". Has apparently moved on to Penmar. He always got early waiting list off, and was there at 5am so listers' would not have to stand in line for an hour waiting. Great guy. Marco also good -will take over. Course in best shape ever. Tee boxes for starters were full, lush, no dirt, ect. Course s/b lush now & it is. Greens recovered - are great- smooth, quick. All factors in nice round of 78. 9th hole still tough to par- long with tiny green. Don't know why the snack bar isn't open around 7:30 to catch early groups looking for a cup of joe. Wilson punched this week- nobody on it. Nice note- week of punching they charge twighlite green fees ; not valid on the following weekend. Still better to avoid- that's purpose of GK. Layout good, some variety. P3's as with Wilson all seem same length. Nice feature is walking down18 hearing the zoo friends waking up hungry. $40 Sat? S/b $35.

Played on Friday 3/1/13 as twosome as a walk up and were paired with some very nice gents, one of whom was a really good golfer. Not a long wait to tee off which was great but we waited to hit on every tee thereafter. Keeping in mind the lack of rain this winter has not helped any, but the course was extremely dry. Several years back they had these courses in pretty good shape. Jack the rates and the course conditions worsen? Then I hear from an extremely reliable source that funds the golf courses generate get diverted to other city programs. In my opinion, all funds generated by the course should be put back in to the course. Not sure in there is a new greenskeeper but the conditions here are the worst I have seen in years. In the entire 5.5 hours it took us to play we never once saw any workers on the course. This place is an awesome facility and the residence of Los Angeles deserve better. It is my only hope with the forthcoming mayoral election that the bozo's currently in charge of LA City Golf will be relieved of their duties as they have failed miserably in their jobs. If you are going to charge premium prices for public golf you should be held accountable for the conditions and quality of service.

10:30 am Thursday, the weather was perfect great day to be on the golf course.This is a LA muni in February, that said I was pleasantly surprised by course conditions.Tees were good, fairways a little spotty but mostly ok no real hardpan you can take a nice divot. The greens are good, nice speed and not too badly marked up. Looking to play a muni? Go play Harding, nice mix of holes an interesting layout and a great old clubhouse.

Played on Saturday 11/24 with a morning tee time. It's been awhile since we played here. First thing we noticed was no starter on the 1st tee. We ended up teeing off about 20 minutes past our tee time. But I did notice there is a security camera mounted on a pole behind the tee box. Pace of play was a little slow. It took us around 5 hours to play 18 on a Thanksgiving weekend.

Fairways were average for this time of year. The heat of the summer took a beating on this course. There were lots of bare spots (or dirt) on the fairways or the fairway grass had lots of yellow areas but it was not bad. It seemed that the grass on the fairways were a little drier. You balls can roll a lot more with this happens. But the fairways still had enough decent coverage. Tee boxes were ok with decent coverage. I can't comment about the sand as I didn't hit into one this round. The greens were in great shape. Tho' I did see the ball bouncing just a little bit on some of the putts.

Harding is one of my favorite places to play as the price is right and the pace of play is decent as Griffith Park golf courses don't allow fivesomes. You have to think a little bit to play here with elevated greens, water on a couple of holes and narrow fairways with trees on both sides of the fairways. Harding is also less busier than sister course Wilson.

Will definitely be back to play here again. Since there is no GPS in the golf carts, I recommend you bring your own golf GPS.
