I am a member of IHMC since 1994 and quite disappointed at the conditions of the Babe course which usually is better than the more desirable Ike. Played there a few weeks ago and the front nine fairways and apron area were downright pathetic. Played with several guests of mine from the East coast and had to apologize to them for the poor conditions (The worst I experienced in 5 years). The greens were slow and bumpy. The back nine's conditions were much better. A few days before that, I played the Ike after a big tournament the day before, the fairways were full of unfilled divots, greens were slower than the Babe. Not a good day to be members of IH right now. I played Wilson GC at Griffith Park, a muni course owned by City of L.A., their greens, fairways and bunkers are impeccable. Definitely put my courses to shame... And their green fee is half of the IH.

Yes, guys, the Babe's front 9 (and #10) are not in the best condition fairway-wise. I ran into the Super and he explained that the first 10 holes had it's water supplied from the large lake which was drained and sealed. Limited water caused browning and the rest is history. Overseeding will begin next month so it may take a while to get the Babes front side back in top condition. We played it lift, clean, and place. Greens are still great, soft but a good role. You will have to navigate some wet/muddy areas which pop up here and there, plus #8 has some major work being done around the front apron which will take several weeks to repair. I, too, might have to stay away until reseeding kicks in.

My first time here, and considering the accolades that this course has received in the past, I was a little disappointed. For $70 twilight I expected to see much better conditions. It appears that the fairways and rough were recently aerated. That's okay, but don't let things dry out to the point the grass thins out and dies. If you are going to punch large holes into your turf, you have to add extra water because the root zone is now open to the sun, wind, and heat. I had a lot of hard pan, dirt lies on the front nine. Back nine was not as bad. Greens were a little bumpy to a lot bumpy with many unrepaired ball marks. I see the potential of this course and I'm sure in a couple of weeks with some extra water, all will be back to normal. I did enjoy the layout: very narrow and challenging with some incredible green complexes that could make for some interesting pin locations. Luckily, most of the holes today were cut into easily reachable areas. Sand traps were about the best part of the course with nice, light sand; however, the one bunker I was in was not raked (I had a fried egg lie in the middle of someone's size 10 foot print). :(

Fairways had plenty of divots in spots and good in others. Tee boxes were semi decent. The design is ok, but not my favorite layout. I have seen this course in much better shape in the past. It may be a while before I come back to the Babe. After playing each of these courses a couple times, I think I enjoy the Ike much better. If I play here again, it will be the Ike, when the conditions get better.

I played here today, Sunday, June 12. The course is in excellent condition, both fairways and greens. The greens are not pool table quick, but with all the undulations, that is a good thing. Still there are places on these greens that if you miss your putt, your next shot could be a chip. Because this was a kind of a big deal member/guest tournament the superintendent had tucked the holes in some pretty diabolical locations. The long time member, of whom I was a guest, said he had never seen some of these hole locations. The locations were by no means typical. The Babe is the tighter but shorter of the two courses. You need to move the ball both ways in order to place the ball in the right place. And in some cases this means to go after the green, let alone the hole. This is a great course that makes you play all the shots, and I don’t have all the shots.

Played as a guest on Tues - As usual we got out right on schedule. The fairways are starting to show some brown spots because of the heat, but they were firm and ran well. The greens were lush, but had been verti-cut recently and were running medium fast, the groundskeepers were working on the greens, mowing and rolling them. Couple of the bunkers I was in were good sand. Two groups ahead of us were on the slow side but we finished in just over 4 hrs.

Played today with the Senior Men's club at 10:30, sadly turned out to be a 5+hour round. The course was in excellent condition, still showing signs of the KIA Classic. The fairways are firm and were b... Continue »

Played today with the Senior Men's club at 10:30, sadly turned out to be a 5+hour round. The course was in excellent condition, still showing signs of the KIA Classic. The fairways are firm and were being mowed as we played. The rough was shorter than for the KIA, with lots of fresh cuttings which made for some difficulty in getting the ball out. The sand traps I was in were good sand, one was a bit firm underneath, The greens are fast and furious, rolled about a 10-11. Flags were in some really difficult spots, some were on slopes which made it tough for me since I'm currently out of touch with my putter. We will not be on speaking terms for a while, lol.

Played early this morning (6:50 AM). I got on immediately. The overall course was in excellent condition. Good thing they are keeping it up after the KIA Classic. The fairways are firm and tighly mowed. The rough is a bit long and wet, it will take an extra club to advance it any good distance.
The sand traps where a bit firm and wet (morning dew?) I did come across a bunker UNRAKED (hummm? white, black, asian, or a mexican foot print?LOL!!), and of course I landed it the FOOT STEP, I gave myself a free drop. The greens are fast and furious, rolled about a 10-11. A firm and confident stroke will get you to the cup. I will be back this weekend for tournament, and I will be ready!!
