Man this was a slow round. That's easily my biggest complaint about this course. The tee boxes were in good enough shape. Fairways might have had a few brown spots but had very good coverage. The greens were running fast and true outside of some unrepaired ball marks. The bunkers I found weren't fluffy, but also not hard, decent sand. The layout of this course was also enjoyable. Lots of variation in holes which is nice and not many boring holes. Would like to play again but hesitant due to pace of play.

It has been awhile since I played Lakewood due to the changes they made to the greens and bunkers. The greens are grown in and playing well. They have recently done some maintenance on them with some type of verticutting. The greens were very fast and had some significant grain. Most putts didn't break anywhere near as much as expected.

The tees were level and fully covered for the most part (a few muddy patches) with think grass. I'd like them a bit tighter but there was nothing wrong with them at all. No significant level issues and no overhanging trees or strange positions.

The fairways were full with excellent coverage. The ball ran well and sat up well. I was in quite a few unfilled divots which I wish had been filled. That is more the player's fault than the course.

I wasn't in any bunkers but my partners raved about them and the great soft sand.

The greens were very fast and had a lot of grain. there is no evidence of the green damage seen earlier this year. The fringe replacement is full set and the greens were excellent. Pace of play was OK. I was playing a team money event so we didn't wait even with the slow play.

The putting greens are OK but do not have much slope to work with and are really undersized for the course. It would be nice if they opened both greens for the weekend. The short game area is great with a large green, flags and even a fringe and bunker. Be aware that the driving range is still under construction and the target date is March as of now.

Good experience at Lakewood and definitely worth the $$.

Played 10-29 a little less than two weeks after aeration of the greens which were slow and bumpy. The course as a whole was wet and played slow 5+ hours. The driving range was closed as they are doing a major upgrade to the cart barn and range itself. Overall its better than some courses that i have played.

Played Friday, 9/23. Teed off at 6:45 and finished in 4 hours. I was able to book a tee time on American Golf website as a single for rack rate with cart. The greens rolled good at medium/fast speed and held shots. The only drawback to the greens was the large amount of unrepaired or poorly repaired ball marks. The fairways were fair to good due to thin areas but very playable. The rough was fair to good with some thin/bare spots. The greenside bunkers were a little wet but good. The fairway bunkers are thin and crusty but playable. The tee boxes were in good condition.

The course is flat and has enough variety to keep things interesting. Water comes into play on several holes. There is a practice putting green and chipping green. The driving range, according to the starter, will not be finished until 2017. The staff was very friendly.

Walked on as a single on Monday morning and was joined by two other singles. Had not played here and thought I would check it out. First mistake was playing from the blues at 6700 yards. Most green complexes are guarded by bunkers and when the wind comes up in the afternoon you have to fly the ball to the green which made for a lot of bunker play. Tee boxes had good coverage and were level, fairways had some thin areas and were firm. Traps were crusty and some stones in them. Greens had good coverage but had unfixed divot damage and poorly repaired divots that knocked putts offline. A couple of greens had some putting surface added and are not quite ready. POP was four and a half hours. $30 to walk is about right for this course.
Working on a new driving range and have some nice practice greens for chipping and putting.

Played Lakewood CC (near Long Beach, CA) on 8/7/16. Weekend riding rate is $51.50. POP was a grueling 5 1/2 hours, but expected on a Sunday teeing off at 9:30am.

Played Lakewood CC (near Long Beach, CA) on 8/7/16. Weekend riding rate is $51.50. POP was a grueling 5 1/2 hours, but expected on a Sunday teeing off at 9:30am.
The tee boxes were a little fuzzy & hairy. Could have used a nice mow. The fairways were decent, better than expected. The greens were decent too. The temporary greens are gone, and all 18 are open. Most in decent shape, but lots of ball marks. Symptom of heavy play. They rolled semi-true, just a little bumpy. Visually, the course looks good, but I'd rather hit up Skylinks or El Dorado.
Side note - Range is under renovation. You can hit short irons only off some mats.

L'Wood again on Friday, 6:30am on time with a 4 hr PoP but the group behind us was two holes behind when we finished (early players not having sense to keep pace), marshal needs to do his job.

L'Wood again on Friday, 6:30am on time with a 4 hr PoP but the group behind us was two holes behind when we finished (early players not having sense to keep pace), marshal needs to do his job.

Anyway, greens still good Poa w/some unrepaired marks, bunkers were maintained today although a bit damp and heavy, excellent sand to play from. Mostly green fairways, I had good lies all day.

Range is irons only until the renovation is completed, not sure when. Chipping area torn up for resodding. New greens on #2, 8, and 12 still need some time to take root, but looking better. Recommended, especially for the $29 walking rate.

Just a heads up or alert, Lakewood is in the middle of a major demolition and rebuilding of the club house and the driving range and chipping area will be either closed or restricted all summer.

Walked on at L'Wood early this AM: holes #2, 8 & 12 are now open and playable. New Poa sod on #2 & 8. #12 green has been lengthened on the front. New bunkers on all three, close to the same size/shape as before, plus new Kikuyu sod surrounding the greens. This work will take a few weeks to fill in and be back to normal. In the meantime, our tax dollars continue to benefit us golfers as they are at work building a new covered driving range with a bar right next to it. The range remains open during construction. Renderings are in the Pro Shop to see what's coming ... looks interesting, a semi Top Golf strategy. The course conditions have not changed since my last visit. Greens are good Poa, holding shots like Velcro and rolling fairly true at medium speed. Early damp Kikuyu fairways do not provide much roll out and the areas around the greens are unpredictable ... gotta land it on the short stuff. Bunkers have good sand but were not maintained (wet and heavy). PoP around 3:50, walking four-ball. Good deal for $29 ... I'll come again next month.
