L'Wood on a Friday, early, walking 4-some finished in 4 hours for 29 bone. No changes here other than the aerated greens getting ready to do side 2, so expect some slowness in the next few weeks. Previous half coming along okay, needs another week.

Visited two GS bunkers, very nice sand. FW bunkers looked good, too. Good muni golf sums it up.

Greens rolled true and quick. it was best to stay below the hole today. had a great time and good luck to Robert in your next match. They are going to start aerating half the greens on tuesday.

Played the blues at Lakewood today for my GK Cup match with tocho261. Conditions were very similar to last time I was out here a few weeks ago, with some minor changes. The greens were very fast and in pretty good condition throughout just days before aeration. No real complaints there - occasional ball mark? Sure, but nothing too bad. Again, pretty darn fast but rolled very true. Fairways were patchy still ... some thin lies can certainly be found throughout. Not sure if and when this will get better as it's always been the case at Lakewood each time I've played it. Sand was okay - depended on the bunker, actually. Some thin, some average, none outstanding, but all playable. Tee boxes I though were quite good, actually. And the rough was a hodge-podge but none too difficult to navigate out of ... like last time - sometimes the rough was more advantageous than the thin sections of fairway. POP I thought wasn't too bad, but in the end it was well over 5 hours. We had a pretty fun group that all played pretty fast, and we never waited it seemed too often on many of the holes, so the time didn't seem to go that slowly. And man was it a gorgeous day! Excited to see how Lakewood comes out of the upcoming aeration.

I walked on today around 11AM and was sent to 1st tee right away. Our group was a foursome of 2 singles and a twosome. I am a fan of this golf course. I have always thought that the par 3 holes are great as they are varied in length and not easy. And it is a fun but challenging enough course. Unfortunately the course seems to always be backed up and play slow. Today was no exception to that. It was over a 5 hour round with waiting on every shot. I never saw a marshall or a course rep from the pro shop all day long. In the past I have seen them send someone out over the course of my round maybe a couple times in 4 to 5 hours. Greens were in great condition and the fairways were their normal "ok" condition.

A year after my first visit to Lakewood, decided to play with my brother-in-law and his son on Sunday afternoon with a $38 GolfZing deal at 1:15pm. Played the blue tees, while my playing partners played the whites.

I found the course overall to be in pretty disappointing condition. There were a lot of fairways on the front 9 that were quite thin in spots - almost more advantageous to hit out of the rough. Fairways on the back 9 did improve though, but it was just the opposite in terms of the greens.

On the front 9, I found the greens surprisingly good - few bumps and ball marks and stuff, but still good. Once we got to #12 and beyond though, they seemed to get progressively worse. And all the coots and their damage on #12 was really bad. The rest? Bumpy, splotchy, patchy and overall meh.

Tee boxes also need some TLC. I found the sand to be actually pretty good throughout, and the rough was fine - again, some of it better to hit from than the fairways.

POP? Don't ask ... round took us over six hours, but I fear much of that had to do with my playing partners - they took their time and weren't fussed about it, but luckily that only slowed down the group behind us on the front 9 - after that we had some space behind us on the back.

I would love to see Lakewood with terrific coverage and even just better than average greens one day as the layout is pretty cool and there is a lot of fun to be had on the course, just not when conditions are as below average as right now. I think it can get much better though and will be worth it later on down the road.

Played Saturday, April 2, around 7:30 am. Pace of play was around 4.5 hours although the group ahead had to be counseled when they fell over a hole behind at the turn. Course conditions were nice. Koots were still around so the water holes were more closely cropped than the other holes, but overall the course was decently lush. The sand was thick in most places although not on #6 green side bunker. The greens were good. Not as fast as I have seen them and bumpy in spots but overall quite good. It was a good experience.

In the pro shop there was an artist's rendering of a new clubhouse/driving range complex to be built. According to the sign they started in March (not). It looks like it will be a vast improvement to the range and interesting otherwise.

I picked up a single tee time for Fri 8AM at L'Wood, running about 15 min. behind and PoP around 4.5 hrs. Paired up with nice guys and we enjoyed the round, found the course in much better shape than expected. Greens were the best part, Poa running true and medium/fast with minimal ball marks. Fairways coming along, in nice spring condition with decent roll out ... mostly green and a few bare areas adjacent to lakeside holes ... coots ... 'nuff said as you know what I think of coots.

The mostly Kikuyu rough is always a mixed bag here meaning different lengths and unevern patches, but for $29 walking I'm not going to complain. Bunkers had good sand but no maintenance today so the inconsiderate golfers who don't rake must have had a good laugh after they looked back at their footprints, shrugged their shoulders, and walked off. Where do these people come from anyway?

Like I said, the greens were the best part of the course and they don't plan to aerate until May ... good to know. Yes, recommended. But note that they are AmGolf operated so they allow 5-somes and play gets pretty slow if you don't tee off early.

While not great, some pleasant surprises when we played on Sunday, Feb 28, 2016. We played this course last fall, and the conditions were awful. Bare spots galore and the greens had weird repair jobs (patching up bare spots with cup cutouts). And, of course, the infamous 6 hour round. However, this time the fairways were much improved (okay - not great, the truly bare spots appeared to be confined to the rough) and the greens were in nice condition, save a few bumpy greens. There were also fewer ball marks on the greens. Pace of play wasn't great. We just assumed it would be a six hour round, especially since there were fivesomes for seemingly every group, including ours. For whatever reason though, the pace picked up and didn't have to wait for a shot after the 10th hole after waiting to play for the entire front 9. The estimated time of play was about five and a half hours instead of six. Given the improved fairways and greens, I might be okay with playing Lakewood more often if I can be assured of a less than 5.5 hour rounds. About the only negative were the bird droppings on the first two tees. It was disgusting teeing off on 1 and 2. Almost of forgot, when I called to see if I can fit in another player in our threesome, I was told that a twosome had been already paired with us. The started offered to see if the twosome could be persuaded to join another group. We declined the offer, but I was pleased by their helpfulness.

Teed off Monday at 9am and finished in 4:45. Greens were in very good shape and the fastest I have seen them in a while. Fairways were hard with some bare spots but ok to hit off. Rough was spotty but the sand traps were very consistent. The green fees are the lowest in the area and are well worth it.
