One of the more fun courses I enjoy playing, in part because the length is not too punishing and the greens are such a challenge at times. They rolled fairly well and were faster than they've been the past few times I've played. Fairways were a mixed bag - some good areas, some areas brown/thin. Tee boxes were the worst part of the course. Lots of play so I suspect it will not change or improve for a while. Staff is great and senior rates make this a wonderful bargain. Pplus I love the vistas and the deer. The only condition is that you play early, otherwise it can be a long day.

Played Tues feb 16th at 836, check in quick. We play here about once a month and we are getting very comfortable here, it is very true the more you play a course the better you score. Got out 20 minutes early following the womens club, POP was 426, but the back 9 was much faster as the womens club only plays 9 holes. Condition here is about the same as jan, greens are drying out, only had 1 plugged ball on #8, fairways are running away from the mountain alot of green with a few brown spots, some of the tee boxes have seen better days, especially the par 3's. Looking behind us the course was very busy later in the day, we will be bad next month.

Played Tues jan 19th at 824. I live in norco and the winds were really strong at 7am when I left. Thought I would go to the course and see if I wanted to play. Well not a breath of wind when I got there so we played. A breeze picked up just as we finished 18. Check in very fast and friendly, putting green still not open. We followed a womens club on the front 9 but they only played 9. Course was in good shape, a little dryer than usual. Second green was very soft and my ball plugged to only 1/4" was above ground. As we continued to play I realized why the greens are soft, when they dry out the slopes make them extremely difficult and fast with major down hill run outs. There were no deer at the club house or the first tee, but when we got to the 13th green there were 18 deer hanging out there. They are cool to look at but I do keep my distance or at least have a club in my hand, sometimes they are around your ball and you have to walk to get them away, and some of them have large horns. We will be back here friday.

Played Marshal today. Was pretty busy, which anticipated as it was New Years day. I ended up playing the front 9 twice to avoid the backlog on the back 9. Worked out pretty well, all things considered.

Staff here was amazing as always. Dylan in the pro shop, Bruce, and the rest of the staff are always great.

Tee boxes were okay. Some divots, but i have seen worse. Some tee boxes need to be leveled out.

Fairways were decent. Less bare spots than i have seen in the past.

Rough was long and tried to eat my ball a few times.

Sand was thin, but playable enough.

Greens were soggy on a few holes, but rest were good enough. Not as bumpy as they have been in the past. I always do my part and fix ball marks on the greens, and today i fixed a few. Not as many unrepaired marks today as here have been in the past.

Deer were out in full force today, but did not get to see any bobcats this time. Wildlife here is always a treat, though.

Played Thurs dec 31st at 8am, came back 2 days and conditions did in prove. Couse was busier than 2 days before and the extra 45 minutes warmed up the 1st tee shot alot. You were able to walk and ride the course without slipping, the greens were still soft, this is the normal for here. Our POP was 350, staying right on the 4 some in front of us when on hole 15 a single caught us and decided to hit 2 drives over our heads , I shouted back to the tee and threw up my arms be he never approached us or apologized to us. When checking in there were 2 buck deer in front of the club house and 21 deer just past the closed putting green. Still like this course and will be back in a few weeks.

Played Tues dec 29th at 724, check in fast, nobody was there. Very cold 35 degree at tee off, the course got alot of rain and was very soggy. The cart wound spin the wheels at times in the fairways going up the mountain, you have to be careful getting to some of the tee boxes, they are elevated and very muddy and slippery going down, almost ending on my ass several times. They had maintenance in several traps digging trenches to get water out, the traps were very wet and difficult. The greens were very long and slow and bumpy, probably not cut because they were so soft and wet and this made them very difficult to putt. POP was 4 hours with no one in front or behind, there are alot of leaves off the fairway and this makes finding your ball very difficult and since nobody was there my guys looked for their balls. We are playing here again news years eve.

Played Fri dec11th at 736, check in very fast and friendly, got out a few minutes early, but it was slow all day, followed a 2 eome who said the 4 some in front of then was 2 holes behind, oh well at least the scenery is great on this course. My last review congratulated the course for getting the greens firmer and playable, well it was back to normal here yesterday, super soft greens with balls plugging with 1/2 of the ball in the green. The weird thing was even how soggy they were the ball would just run past the hole on down hill putts, I guess if they were hard it woukd be impossible to play. Many fairways were very wet and had mud areas, the 11 green had standing water in 1 spot, still like this place, but just very very wet, POP was 421, a little too long.

Played Fri Nov 27th at 748, got there early so my son could hit a bucket of balls, very crowded early. Easy and fast check in. We usually play here on Tuesdays and I knew we would be paying holiday rates but $55 is a bit much for this course, POP was good at 405, no waiting and no one pushing behind us. Course was in decent shape, most tee boxes good with the exception of 2 par 3's they were bare and needed leveling. Fairways were in good shape, not in any traps, rough a little long and hard to find the ball, also allot of leaves in rough. They really did a good job with the greens, remember all the reviews that they were so soft and spongy, well they were much harder and rolled pretty good, in fact a few of them were too fast on putts and the ball ran away from the hole somewhat like hidden valley, this was my sons first time here and I think he liked it, it is a course you need course knowledge, we will return on a Tuesday.

So after my round at I H I was in the mood for more golf. Having read the recent reviews of Marshal C I called and was told to come on over. Arrived and was on the course in 20 minutes. Personally I have always felt this course is one of the best LA County course layouts but sadly the step child of LA County golf. With that said, I found the course to be consistent with previous reviews. Some greens were still spongy at 11 AM. Many areas in front of greens were wet and just killed many of my chips. You had to carry the ball into the green almost 100% of the time. Do not understand why so much watering for this time of the year. I also saw many cart ruts in the fairways because of the watering? I did find the course to be in good shape in many areas. Good fairways but little roll. Good tee boxes all around. Traps were not good (little sand and hard). Greens were clean but inconsistent for putting. Some speedy, some slow and some very slow. Great customer service. I will go back, but will be looking over GK reviews before I attempt a return. I had hoped that with the recent great weather, some areas had improved. Sad to say that was not the case at present.
