Rancho Vista GC has been terrible for many months to a year, but it has since come back with a good golfing conditions all around its course.

The greens are now back to firm and smooth. Though there were a couple of greens that is bare and dead, the overall recovery of all the greens are in excellent conditions.

The bunkers: all bunkers have new sand.

The teeing grounds are lush and green and cut tight.

The fairways are in great shape.

Overall, this course is well worth playing.

Played on April 19, 2009. The round took 5 1/4 hours; way too long for this course. Rounds here have become very slow in recent time. As I have seen over the years, the course conditions continue to deteriorate as the greens are showing signs of severe problems and there are so many areas (both fairway and rough) that look like they are in a drought. I don't like the "desert" conversion because these areas are poorly maintained. The course has lost so much of what made it a fun place to play. All they seem to care about is taking your money without putting any of it back into the facility.

I love this place. I consider it my home course and I'm about a half hour drive away. It's worth the trip every time. I love elevated tees, and virtually every hole on this course is from an elevated tee. The ball rolls nicely on the faster paced greens, and they're not too difficult to read. The course is in the middle of housing tracts and I usually don't care for courses surrounded by houses, but in this case they aren't really on top of you. They are set back a bit so they are not too much of a distraction. Just avoid slicing your tee shot (for right handers) on 11 and 17. Not too long ago many of the grassy fairway and rough areas were converted to desert waste areas. Not too punishing for your ball to end up there, but it can scratch up your clubs. Toughest hole: 17 - long par 4 and usually into a wind. Most peculiar hole for good course management: 8 - potentially tricky, relatively short par 4. Don't be too tempted to pull out driver on the tee. Stay away from water all down the left and in front. Rancho Vista has my favorite finishing hole. Great par 5 with the wind usually at your back; good birdie opportunity to clean up your round. Driving range features grass tee row, and the putting green is one of the most undulating I've ever seen. There's also a pitching practice area next the 9th green, though I've never used it. Great overall, accessable facility and I've usually played my round in less than four hours.

Played here on MLK Day and very much enjoyed the round. Our foursome followed the playing tips and found the course challenging with rolling fairways, sloping greens that were medium to fast, and rock-hard sand/gravel that lined almost every fairway...exactly how the tips said. Pay particular attention to the par five #13 and try to stay in the fairway. You really can't see the ditch that runs across the fairway and it comes into play on your second shot. Very difficult hole! 5 hours to play 18 on a busy holiday wasn't so bad. Overall, an 8 out of a 10 and worth the 1 hour drive from LA. It was even more enjoyable since we got 1/2 price for using Red Dot.

I've played Rancho Vista twice. I treated my dad to a round of golf here for his birthday. We had a great time. the curse is a nice layout with some rolling fairways. the fairways are wide enough that you don't need to always need to be down the center. But on some holes there are a huge hard pack sand areas that spearate the different holes and those are hard on the soles of clubs. The greens are nice. Reachable par 3s the balls and high approach shots the ball sticks on landing. Green speeds were medium to fast on some holes. I've played both times on a Saturday without crowding issues.Overall a very nice and fun affordable well maintained course.

As usual we were paired with a great twosome (larry & Charles) and had a great day of golf. The course was in great shape compared to a month ago when the greens were under repair. The greens were smooth and fast and Fun! Everyone I encountered was enjoying themselves, which usally happens on a great course on a great day. The normal wind that picks up on the back nine was not there on Sunday. It made the entire round of golf just fantastic...

This is a great course. First time out. I enjoyed the course aesthetics with the desert-like areas in between the holes. If you happened to land in the 'desert' areas, it was not fun hitting out of it. The ground was hard and the pebbles really do a number on your clubs!
The tee boxes were great, the fairways were great, the rough was tall, and the bunkers were very good. Only a few spots where the sprinklers must have been on too long and the ground was mushy.
There are not many high trees to get in your way, so off-line tee shots were not dead, even though the rough was tough at times. The range is grass, and not all chopped up. A pleasure to hit off of. The only thing about the range is that the targets were way below the hitting area, where on the course there were more elevated approaches.
Well worth the fees, a highly recommended course to play. Nice restaurant in the clubhouse. The practice green was nice also and was a true pace out on the course. Greens rolled pretty fast and true. Not a bad walking course, good workout. About 4 1/2 hours for us 4 walking and a few ball hunting holes.

This golf course is a fun golf course. The lay out is something similar to Las Vegas's Rhodes Ranch as they are with the same designer. The feel of it is the same good feeling that doesn't really beat you up that much, though it isn't that easy eaither. (check slope/rating/yards) But maybe this course is a little more forgiving. Rancho Vista shaved grass on the hills in between fairways to conserve water. I thought that was a good thing.

...but they've also added or enhanced the pot bunkers with tall rough, making it tough to make a good out. (Ugh!) I'll make a point not to get in it next time.

The course level of its quality condition is as high as being great at this time even though a few of the greens were lightly punched with tiny holes but healing (no big deal- doesn't affect much play) and for the most part, it rolled true on the faster side. The fairways are very good and the all around condition of this course has completely turned around for better.

You know what's coming... I hope it continues to be good.

First time playing this course and I was very impressed. For $30 walking, the playing conditions were fantastic. Tee boxes were as good as I've seen anywhere. Greens were very smooth, though some of them had slight discoloration. Fairways were good... rough definitely penalized you, especially if you hit into one of the grass bunkers. The wind picked up mid-way through the round which made the course a little tougher. All around very enjoyable round including lunch afterward with fellow GKers noeldaof, kviser, and thingstodo.

I'll definitely be back.
