Walked the blues this morning 12/30/24 at 11:30am with my buddy Mark and a twosome of brothers under beautiful weather low 60s with no wind which I hear is rare up here. Our POP was 5 hrs behind a packed course of holiday golfers. Very friendly staff in the pro shop. No cart girl. They have a big driving range on mats, big putting green and we ate at the restaurant after the round which had great food. My first time here. I really loved the layout which had some up and down tee shots, doglegs, straight forward holes and beautiful views of the surrounding desert mountains. Most holes had big mounding just off the fairways that could either hurt you or funnel balls back to the center of the fairways. Some nice elevation changes and the course flowed really nicely. The greens were in very good shape rolling medium to quick speeds and holding shots very softly. Rating the greens an 8/10. The fairways were on the thinner side and drives rolled forever. This helped me shoot a low score today as drives were rolling an extra 15 yds or so. They contained just enough grass to be considered playable without being considered hardpan. Rated 6.5/10 Wasn't much rough at all just off the fairways. Rated 6/10 Tees were level on the dry side with the par 3s being a little thinner and torn up but not to bad. Rated 6.5/10 Was not in any bunkers but playing partners described them as containing consistent sand with a good base to hit off of. Recommended for layout and greens conditioning.

I played here twice recently, last Friday, November 8, and last Monday, November 11. Course conditions are really nice at this time. Greens were running fast and smooth with just a few ball marks here and there that were easily repaired. The rest of the course has lush grass and level tees. I played the blue tees on Friday and the white tees on Monday, the mornings can get chilly out here and there is a possibility of a frost delay during the colder winter months. Friday we had the first group out at 7:30 AM. There was about a 45 minute frost delay for the first group. I was in a bunker on hole too, and the sand was frozen. It did warm up quickly and by 9 you could be wearing shorts.

Monday’s weather was a little warmer. There was no frost delay. It would have been a warmer day, but the wind came up before noon and was blowing pretty steady and kept things on the cooler side.

Greens: medium fast, smooth.

Fairways and rough: great coverage and mostly good lies.

Bunkers: Mostly good (if raked) with good sand.

Tees: Level and not beat up.

Range: Hitting off mats to a small valley with a handful of targets.

Pro shop: Friendly service and a decent selection of balls, hats, jackets , shoes, etc.

Clubhouse: Good selection of food and beverages.

Played today, fourth group out. Chilly weather around 45 degrees, slight breeze that picked up by the 12th hole. Really good conditions today. Greens were fast; however; they’re getting punched on Monday/Tuesday.

Greens: Rolling fast and true. Firm conditions, hard to hold a shot. Breaks away from the ridge to the south, down towards the middle of the desert.

Fairways: Great rollout and coverage.

Rough: Not too penal.

Bunkers: Good white sand. Perfect conditions and raked nicely.

Tee boxes: We played the Blues. Mostly level. Some were hard.

Overall: Great customer service and the course is playing great right now. Too bad they are aerating on Monday!

Played here last Friday as part of a scramble. Great conditions from tee to green. Greens were running on the fast side of medium. Good grass coverage all around. There were some areas of the fairways that had a need for divot repair. The rough was mostly consistent with good grass coverage. Bunkers were nice with good sand conditions. It did get windy as the morning progressed into afternoon. I'd give more detail, but what's the point? It's good right now. Go play it!

Played it today with my lady friends, we’re not young but we’re not that old, very challenging a little wet because of the weather but we had a good time, nice staff.

Looking online I saw that this course had lots of openings for a Sunday morning. I called the pro shop and was told there would be no problem getting out as a single. The weather app I used said it was going to be pretty chilly at around 50° at 9 AM. However, the sun was out and there was no wind so it did feel warmer than the actual air temperature. I got there in about 40 minutes and was able to tee off immediately at about 8:45 AM. I caught up to a group of five golfers on Hole 2. They immediately offered for me to go ahead of them on hole three and after they hit they’re tee shots, waited for me to tee off. I caught up to a twosome on Hole 4, but they seemed uninterested in letting me pass or join them. Anyway, we cruised through the front nine in about one hour and 15 minutes. The back nine had a little bit of a back up and we finished that in about two hours. The greens were good. They seem to run very fast, were soft, and held most any kind of shot. The fairways were pretty good. Light green in appearance and a decent amount of roll out. The rough was similar in appearance and cut nicely so it wasn’t very penal. The bunkers were great. I was in a few. Early in the morning I encountered some heavy, wet sand, but later they did dry out and the sand was in great condition. It was very fresh, almost white, and soft with a nice texture. I might just aim for them next time! The course is in great condition right now and I highly recommend it. I did not see a beverage cart but I think they do have one. It was good to get out and golf today on a moment’s notice.

I played Friday afternoon, riding as a single, 2:15 tee time. No wind at all on this day; it is a factor as it does get windy here. I paired myself up with another single at Tee 1 and we played at a good pace until hitting a backup on Hole 3. One group of three let up pass, but the real backup was three groups ahead of those guys there was a fivesome of local yahoos dragging ass. Amazingly, I was not at all upset with the situation. My playing partner called the starter and we ran some ideas around. The course was just crowded and skipping ahead wasn't an option. We got our change to pass the fivesome at Hole 14 tee. Overall POP was 3:45.

Overall course conditions were lush. The weather is getting hotter and they are watering a lot. There were some overly wet areas and those were not clearly marked, so there was some cart damage in a couple of spots. However, it was minor.

Greens: The ran fast and smooth.

Fairways and rough: Good rollout and great turf under my ball in almost all cases. Some areas of rough were very lush around the back of some greens.

Tees: We played the blue tees and all were level with the exception of Hole 7 which was slightly tilted to the left side.

Sand: All the bunkers appeared to have a nice layer of white sand. I was in three, and had no trouble hitting out.

Great local hangout for a relaxed round of golf. The starter is very relaxed about afternoon golf times. If it is not busy, you could just go. The bar and restaurant seem very busy so that is usually a good sign of decent food/service. They have a great selection of beers on tap as well. It looks like I'm going to be coming back here more often as the days get longer.

The last time we played here was 5th February and a couple of days before it. I agree very much with the prior review but it may have gotten better since as the greens have gotten slick and played close to 11 on the meter. I mean “respect” it or have a five footer or more to come back to. Very smooth like it was rolled.
The whole course is at its tip-top shape and very impressive. For a local muni, it gives an impression of playing a top notch course that’s up to par with a premium course conditions.
Note: on the par 5, #3 fairway, a drainage work was going on on the 3rd and 4th February. It is not reachable from most or all the tee. It is at least 350 from the blue tees. The work pretty much crosses that fairway but Saturday, it was all completed and they have laid the grass back on. It is only noticeable when you are on it. Otherwise, you’d pass through without knowing it was there. No marks of GUR as it’s not necessary. (Great work, RVGC !)
Although the the temperature can be cold in the high desert, if the “Ws” are not present, it is quite a treat to experience its playing conditions and the course is not bad at all.

Nice morning in Palmdale, CA today. It was a relatively balmy 50 degrees at 8:40 a.m. when I arrived for my 8:56 tee time. I paid $49 to ride. Starter allowed me to head to the tee and join a twosome or just go out alone. The fellas asked if I'd like to join them and that was a plus. Good POP at 3:20, although we waited on the foursome ahead of us all morning.

Greens: Soft and medium fast without any bad areas. Very few, if any, ball marks to fix. They all rolled true and there was no bumpiness.

Fairways and rough: It was a light green color overall and relatively good lies everywhere. The fairways were somewhat tight and allowed for a good amount of rollout on most drives. There are areas with a lot of divots but mostly they are filled in with mix. The rough was cut to about 1.5 inches and mostly was not penal at all. This course is all fescue grass and doesn't really have dormancy, but it's not super green either. Overall, it was decent.

Tees: We played the blue tees and they were mostly level; the ones that were uneven were not terrible, though. Good grass coverage, even on the par 3's.

Sand: The bunkers looked and played great. There were ample amounts of clean, white sand. I was in three and they were fairly easy to play from. The sand was light and soft. There were at least two or three rakes at each bunker.

Great course conditions and customer service. I saw at least one or two grounds crew fixing irrigation heads on the front nine. Except for the pile of soil, you wouldn't know they were there. Friendly folks and a nice day on the course.
