Out first this AM. There is not much I can add that Weber and myself have not said in our reviews over the past week. One change from my recent play were the wet conditions from overnight dew. We did not have that a week ago and it made a difference today in fairway roll and speed on the greens. After we made the turn and the sun came out, conditions were much better. And the Cal State LA women's golf team is now a factor (at least on Monday) as they start on the back 9 and will effect pace of play when you make the turn. Excellent customer service at all levels.

Motivated by the recent review from 24hourgolf, we decided to get back out to Rio Hondo. Not able to get out in the first few groups, so pace of play was slower than I would have preferred, but not horrible. (closer to fours than three) However the weather was so nice and the course conditions made it worth the extra time spent. Course was in very good condition. Since I made a bunch of putts for a change, I found the greens to be excellent. No issues with fairways, tees, or rough. The one bunker I found had plenty of sand and was well raked.

Always enjoy Rio Hondo. I find that if I can get thru the first five holes close to par, I seem to be able to post a decent number. Back side has always been kind to me, except for #14, which "owns" me. Lovely day of golf in Southern California.

Early out early finish. 3 H. Course is in some of the best condition I have seen it, in a long long time. Tee boxes are all fine. Fairways are providing good lies and good roll on every hole, with the exception of # 5 which always seems thin/bare. Bunkers are all playable. Very little rough to deal with and what there is is playable. Greens are in very nice shape and chipping/putting excellent and with speed. Great customer service.

Played Rio Hondo with my monthly golf group on Saturday and found the course to be in overall good shape. The greens, punched at the start of the month, seem fully healed up with the one exception of the 18th green which was still showing signs of the punch.

The other seventeen greens are all in nice shape, rolling medium-fast with consistent speed and nice coverage. They did hold shots well, too. Fairways had good coverage but you can definitely find some thin areas as well, but the rough is full for the most part but not too penal.

Bunkers were in good shape with serviceable sand throughout, while the tee boxes were somewhat chewed up but always level (played from the blue tees). POP was pretty good as we had three groups and went out first and behind a twosome. Also saw the cart girl many times throughout the round on a hot day.

Fun layout with a lot of narrow, tree-lined holes and water features that come into varying degrees of play on almost half of the holes. Not exceptionally long but still a good challenge that is no pushover. Good time to Rio Hondo right now.

Played at 9:30 am today. Conditions were good. Greens were very smooth and putted around 8.5/9. Fairways had good coverage and plenty of grass. Rough was thick and juicy and traps were above average. POP was 4.5 hrs. Drinks and food service was pleasant with $5 breakfast sandwich special. Layout is great mix of holes with annoying power lines that run throughout course. One of the better conditioned course in the area.

Out early, done early, 2.5H. Found the fairways being thatched/verticut with the mower this AM. Thus, decent lies, but no roll. + as usual that early in the AM, course was wet. Had a couple of bunkers that were wet/hard and hope they will clear those up? No tee box issues. Greens were wet at start, but dried out some later, and chipped/putted fine for the conditions. Customer service excellent (as always) at check in.

Grabbed a twilight tonight with a coworker at Rio Hondo. My first time to play this as I was in town for business. I was very surprised by the condition of this course. For 30 dollars with a cart it was a great experience. The teeing areas were in great shape. Beautiful fairways. The couple of bunkers I hit it into were perfect to hit out of. The greens were very receptive and you could spin back shots with ease. I would say they rolled about a 10 on the stimp and were a bit tricky to read. For my first time here I was pleased with my 73. Par 71. Course requires some strategy and has its share of risk reward holes. Couple of par 3s were 215 and 225. Fun mix of long and short holes.

I was invited by a friend to join regular playing group for Saturday, 8/10, morning tee times starting at 10:00. Apparently this group attendance varies anywhere from about five to 15 on a given outing, and in this case we had six, starting out as a couple of threesomes. The course was in good shape overall. Teeing grounds nice and level with enough coverage, fairways were generally well covered, a little tight and correspondingly, with better than average rollout. Rough usually had coverage and could play anywhere from an easy out to thicker and costly. I was in the bunkers too much and found them particularly challenging. The surface tended towards clumpy and a little crusty over a softer base. I can't remember playing conditions quite like it and had trouble figuring them out. The greens were in pretty nice condition as to surface, running right around medium speed that felt slower because they were clean and looked like they should have rolled a little quicker. So conditions-wise, so far so good. The big negative was the pace. Slow from the get go and throughout. So much so that for about six holes in the middle of the round, the two groups decided to combine as a six-some until the marshals eventually caught on and had has us revert to two groups. It really made no difference. After a lot of waiting and, having an early evening engagement to get to, I had to quit after 17 which I never would have anticipated with our start time. It would have been at least 5.75 heading towards 6.0 hours to finish out 18 and it was the longest round I've played in years. There were marshals patrolling, but there was nowhere to speed things up and it makes me wonder what happened earlier to set things up this way. Cart service came around regularly and the staff was otherwise pleasant. Nice as conditions were, the thought of playing this course on a weekend again now leaves me a little twitchy.

Played today @ 5:30 (yes 1st hole was a tad dark). Had the course to ourselves (of course) and had an enjoyable round of golf. Course was clean and being cleaned, while we played. So tee boxes, fairways (good lies but no roll as they were wet) were in good shape. Bunkers were wet and not very playable, with no soft sand (need work). Rough outside of fairways and greens (though wet) was playable. Greens were not as good as last week, as they were too wet. One thing I have found on many courses this time of year with the heat, most courses will play wet. Unfortunately, something you have to deal with. Customer service at all levels, excellent.
