5:40am tee time on a really mild overcast morning. Easy pleasant check in, and even able to get out a few minutes earlier than our tee time. Very efficient and friendly staff.

Course is in pretty nice overall condition. Greens rolled well, albiet a little slow for my taste. Fairways had plenty of grass and were well maintained. Even the rough was mowed. Bunkers were a mixed bag, some good, others not so much.

Enjoy playing this layout. Despite probably the worst front nine I've played in many years, still enjoyed the experience. Much better back side, which but for a 15 minute period of light rain, was near perfect. Finished in well under three hours, which adds to the enjoyment, and nice to see they were not price gouging. $27 to walk (senior) is well worth it. Will be back sooner than later.

Practicing my social distancing I joined a Tournament sponsored by the South Bay Golf Links.

Greens were on slow side. You could see Poa in bloom so it was bumpy from the get go.
Fairways had decent coverage. Some thin lies around the swails.
Rough was thick, sticky and hard to hit from. It clearly made you want to stay in the fairway.
Bunkers were hard packed with sand.
Tee boxes were flatish and playable.

This was a tournament so play was slow but a decent 4:30 POP.

It was a nice pause from all the craziness of fighting food lines at the supermarket LOL. They run a clean and easy operation, definitely recommended.

Got a chance to sneak out yesterday with fellow GK er larryq2001 and couple of friends. First several greens were sanded and not in good shape. The greens after hole 4 were in better shape running around 8.5/9. Fairways were in average winter shape. Mix of grass and occasional weeds. The turf was extremely hard and dry making for great rollout on drives but numbing contact on irons. Rough and tee boxes and traps were fine. POP was 2.5 hrs front and 2.15 back for 4.45 total. Not bad for Friday afternoon. We saw cart girl once and snack shop had good deals on breakfast. Drinks after round were pleasant and customer service was fine.

Played this morning with my friend who's a member of the men's group. Teed off around 7. We finished in under 4 hours, which is awesome for a Sunday morning. Not much waiting on the group in front and didn't feel pushed by the group behind.
Tee boxes were good, I thought fairways were better than expected given it's winter. A few thin lies but for the most part fairways were good. All but one of the traps I was in were nice soft sand and easy to escape if you put a decent swing on the ball. Unfortunately 18 greenside trap was thin and I found the rock hard bottom and sending my ball well over the green. Greens were firm and most shots hit and bounced a bit. Not many 2 hop and stops today. They were fairly quick and rolled well.
Course is in pretty good winter shape. Good breakfast burrito after the round in the grill. Fair prices. Great way to start out Super Bowl Sunday. Hope to play more frequently with this group in the coming months.

Knowing how cold it was going to be, made certain that I played a "walking course" because playing in the cold with a cart can be brutal. Just never can get loose. So back out to Rio Hondo. Kind of knew what to expect after having played here only a few weeks ago, and reading the recent reviews.

Greens better than expected, quicker and rolled better. Fairways were a mixed bag, with some really nice lies, quite a few thin lies, but its winter, so need to cut the course a little slack. Bunkers were OK, at least those which I was in.

Not super busy, perhaps due to the weather, so pace of play was fine. I like this course and the staff is always friendly and accommodating.

Played Rio Hondo 12/13 and came away very disappointed with the winter conditions of the course, specifically the fairways. Ultra thin, muddy or ultra thin and rock hard. at times, felt like i was walking on cement.

The rest of the course was in solid condition. Greens were bumpy at times but not terrible.

Played today. What a difference a week makes. Very cool when we started (1st ones off) but warmed up great on back 9. POP was 3 H. Course has dried out nicely and the course has been cleaned up. Fairways are brown/dormant but run like crazy (love it). Rough has been cut and no issues. Tee boxes were all just fine. Traps are very playable. Greens were cleaned and chipping/putting just fine, with just the right amount of speed IMO. Customer service excellent as usual. Even with the cold weather, the course is playable IMO. Yes you will get some thin lies, but the fairways are playable when using a hybrid, or even for those who hit good fairway woods.

It was hard of course to get really good lies, but using LCP it was better. Found some of the fairways to have good roll, which was surprising. Rough was still wet and brutal. Bunkers were all playable, as the maintenance team had worked on them. Greens had been mowed and chipped/putted very well all round. Customer service excellent.

Third group out this morning on a really pleasant autumn day. Our walking foursome was sandwiched between three ladies riding and a riding foursome, but we were always at least a hole behind the ladies and two holes ahead on the guys behind us. Perfect ! Nice easy 3 hour 15 pace.

While the fairways being dormant (brown), they generally were decent, with a few areas which were in need of attention (#13 in particular) Greens were slower than usual, and probably need to be rolled. Bunkers were good, with plenty of raked sand. Several of the tee boxes were beat up and had lots of divots.

This is such a fun course to play. Enough of a challenge, but affords you several birdie holes and does not require any extra ordinary shots to play these holes. (Except perhaps the par 3 holes #8 & #14). (From the tips)

Enjoyed the round, despite playing really poorly. That says it all.
