Walked up as a single this morning and got out second up as part of a foursome @ 9:45—just ahead of a scheduled tournament. It was a about a five hour round that didn't feel that long because, overall, it seemed to moved steadily with a couple of waiting holes. Tee boxes were good and generally nice and flat—signs of use but enough green space that divots weren't really a factor. The few boxes that were less than level were not off by much. Fairways were OK and averaged from nice coverage to a little thin, which you'd expect this time of year. The greens were a mix of clean surfaces and some that had varying degrees of divot marks and some kind of fungus spots. Where the damage was not evident, the greens putt well and medium on the quick side. Where they were disfigured, while visually distracting, I found they still putt pretty well. I can't say the surface ruined any of my putts, so I guess it depends on how delicate your sensibilities are when it comes to the visual distraction, so it is definitely a consideration until someone reports the greens all healed. For myself, I enjoyed the round and I'd go our and do it again.

Greens have fungus several greens severe, don't seem to be doing much about it. Tees almost no grass some not level especially #18 and they were just redone. Made them smaller so more concentrated wear. #5 tee is greatly reduced in size so tee is real thin.
Seems county likes to waste there money.

Horrible customer service. I called to inquire what time twilight started, the guy who answered told me it started at 12:30pm and booked for the first (12:30pm) tee time available on that coming Saturday. Got to the course on Saturday and was told by the Starter that our tee time was at 12:20pm and we had to pay regular price if we wanted to get out. WHAT?

There was no "Sorry about our mistake, we'll let you out 10 minutes early and charge you twilight fee". No "Sorry for the mix up, I'll squeeze you in at the beginning of twilight". It was "Pay regular fee or wait for a 4-some spot to open up", which was impossible at S.A. during the weekend.

I know we can't expect much from a county course, but I didn't think we would have to (literally) pay for *their* mistake.

With that said, it's a nice track and I've had many enjoyable rounds there. Do expect VERY slow play during weekend afternoons. It once took us 3+ hours to finish the front 9.

Just love these old traditional tracks! Santa Anita is one of my favorites! Course was in generally decent shape, except for the tee boxes which have not yet "matured" after having recently been rebuilt. Greens were good on some holes and bumpy on others - hit or miss. What I did notice was the number of trees that are gone. i assume from the wind storm recently. Too bad, because trees are part of what gives this course its character.

Played today, 5 hrs to play (TOO many 5 BALLS) The course is in good shape and I like the layout except NUMBER 18. That hole is a joke! Unless you hit the ball 250/260 off the tee you end up in the valley or with a side hill lie with no chance to get to the green.

All major construction of the tee boxes and bunkers appear to be finished. Played early on 11/3/11. My first time back since they began the construction work and I don't really think it made much difference in improving the overall track. Maybe on the scorecard distances or ratings but it played the same overall. Conditions of course were very good as usual. There were plenty of golfers early who must have heard about the course conditions or wanted to get in their rounds before the weekend rains. I'm happy to be able to add Santa Anita back to the golfing rotation...missed it. Come out and play before they raise the rates again.

Played again at SA today. Many tee boxes are under repair so course plays a bit shorter than normal. However, as noted here in GK, they just finished punching the greens last Mon/Tues, with big holes and sand. So...unless you enjoy seeing your putts hop around like they were in a pachinko machine, I STRONGLY suggest you play elsewhere until the greens heal...and I give them a good month to heal!

Played a match at SA on Friday, 9/16 and I can attest that many of the tee boxes are being renovated (most all of the par 4 and 5s), so the course is playing shorter than normal. I ran into the superintendent during the round and he said the work should be finished towards the end of October.

Overall I thought the course was in pretty decent shape. Greens rolled fairly true; looked like the public has been doing a better job of repairing ball marks and I didn't quite so many extras to repair! Traps were in good shape, but fairways were a bit thin in spots...but only serious bare spots I found were around the cart paths near tees and greens. Rough was a bit inconsistant with some of the areas fairly lush and others a bit thin.

I believe the greens are going to be punched next Mon/Tues. Practice green had already been punched and they used the small needles, so it actually was not too bad. If they do they same on the course, then it will still be fairly decent. However, you might want to play a few other places until mid-late October...should be in nice shape again at end of next month.
