I played earlier this week (8/30). The course is going through some major renovations on most of the tee boxes with those holes played from temporary tee boxes. This course is relatively short but with tees playing forward it makes the course play significantly shorter. Other than that, the course/greens are typically in decent shape. So if you're a player who doesn't hit the ball very far, now is the best time to lower your scores. If not, take this course off the rotation for a few months. From the early work I saw, the changes should make Santa Anita an improved track...I hope they maintain the current daily rate that makes them the best value in So Cal.

played 8-13-11. This course was enjoyable, not very long but there were a few long par 4's and all the par threes were challenging. tee boxes were bare and uneven. Fairways were great and green but could have used a mow. Putting greens although slow, held the line despite them also bumpy. I really enjoyed this course, made for a great day. Nothing special about santa anita but nice weather and a fun foursome made for a great day

First time out today at got around at 4.5...finishing 18 with barely any light. Nice track to walk...not terribly difficult and you can use your premium balls here b/c you can't lose them....not many obs. The greens were very slow....the fairways are in nice condition..the layout is interesting. Many mounds in the middle of the fairway and you kinda have to have alittle course knowledge to play it.

My only gripe is they need a marshall here. Okay...here's an etiquette for all of you that don't know yet...if it's super twilight and people are behind, try to wrap up each hole ASAP! We had a father and son in front of us that DELIBERATELY used the round as hacking practice...from one bunker to another...until we finally said something, the father wanted to fight us. Good thing we weren't mild manner...he barked...we barked back louder.

My friends and I really enjoy this course. The fairways are in good shape, and the greens are usually in good condition. Its a very flat course so very walkable and worth the green fee.

Played here last saturday and had a ball. There was a tournament there on friday but you would never have known by the condition of the course. The tee boxes were all clean and the sand traps were perfect. Played at first light and got on right away. It's a gem as a muni and has some nice challenges and twists.

Got out yesterday around 12:45. I was a walk-up and on my way to the course, wasn't sure if I was going to play since there was a good chance of it being too dark to finish, but there was no one in the first box when I arrived at the course. I went out shortly thereafter in a foursome, a twosome ahead of us and space ahead of them. The pace was good with hardly any waiting except for the par 3 thirteenth, where there was a two-group backup. Ended up about a 4.5 hour round, which I thought was great, and we were probably the second to last group to finish with reasonable light. The conditions were generally good, albeit winter. A couple of tee boxes were a little less than level, but most were very good in that respect -- however the winter aspect was predominantly thin areas with some bare -- not preferable, but I can live with it in a level tee box. The fairways were pretty good, accepting that the winter covering just doesn't have the density and perch of warmer weather grass. Rough had good coverage but not particularly long or punitive in most cases. The greens were medium fast and putted well, although not exactly pristine -- a fair amount of pitch marks to repair. The little details aside, the course was in good shape, very playable and at $27 to walk, a bargain for a course of this general quality. And I got lucky with the pace.

The weather was warm with little breeze, so it was a beautiful day to be out. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Played in a tournament Saturday morning, 1/8/11, on a cool cloudy day with no wind. Course was very wet ansd we played lift-clean all over the course, as every shot wound up with mud on the ball. However, no overly sloppy areas and we were able to take carts everywhere. Greens were in very good condition, firm and medium fast. Bunkers also in good condition with good sand over a damp base. Normal Saturday, munigolf, LA County conditions overall.

Golfed with fellow GKers and Meetup.com LA Golf group members Diane, George, Tony, and Todd. Went out as a fivesome (ugh), and managed to finish in around five hours. It started raining by the ninth, off and on light to medium showers. The only negative I can say about the course is the tee boxes need some time to recover. I don't know if it is from the recent cold and rainy weather, but the blue tees were really thin and beat down. Other than that, the course is in great condition. Lush fairways and rough. The sand was in great condition, light and fluffy despite the constant rain. Greens were smooth, free of ball marks, and rolling nice for a muni: I heard it was around an 8 on the stimp. Not lightning fast by any means, but decent roll without any bumpiness. My first time playing here, and I would not mind coming back. After the round, Diane turned us on to a nearby diner for some great burgers at a decent price.

I played Santa Anita over the Weekend. I had a great time, course is in very good shape, a bit of a challenge. Greens are fast and great, sand is great even though I was there only once. Is it just me or are County courses getting in shape lately.
