Played this morning with a 8:30 tee time. Fivesome. Starter squeezed in a twosome in front of us behind a foursome??? Local players who knew him... Not cool. Fairways for the first four holes were all punched a were wet mud plugs all over the fairways. Those greens were tracked on muddy footprints all over. The twosome pushed through and we never saw them again, back to normal pace of play. The rest of the course was in poor shape except the greens. Fairways were patchy and thin. Greens were fast but very moist. Hard to repair divots because they were so wet underneath. As you all should know.. small greens all well bunkered. Most green side bunkers were also damp sand but playable. Tee boxes were being mowed so Mondays must be maintenance day. Brookside#1 had a charity event and might be in better shape??

Played today, teeing off at Noon, so did not know what to expect? Having never played either course during football season, was not sure how the course would play? Very pleased with the POP at 4.5 H and course was in rather decent condition. No issues with any tee boxes; fairways had good to average coverage and despite the car parking, played well with good lies and roll; little to no rough; greens, while appearing "suspect" were very good and fast and we had no issues even with non repaired divots (shocker). Customer service was excellent. Very pleased with the overall results, based on past outings and other postings.

Played Brookside #2 on Tuesday, 4/25. I was originally scheduled to play as a single joining a threesome on the #1 course. But that fell apart and I declined to play as a single between 2 fivesomes (duh). So they put me with a threesome on the #2 course. As a senior, I paid $18 walking. Overall, the course is in pretty good shape. The fairways are mostly lush with some thin or bare areas, but quite playable. Most of the teeboxes were fine. But a few were not level and had divot damage. The rough is mostly good, about 1 - 3 inches thick, and could be penal. the bunkers were in good shape with plenty of firm but nice sand. With the exception of one green (which was badly marked and bumpy) the greens were in nice shape. They held approach shots well and rolled medium fast. The course is very playable now.

Round was 740 am on Saturday, 3-11. POP was brutal for the first 4-5 holes, and even though waiting time diminished greatly after that, overall the round was 5:10 or so. This was disappointing. How... Continue »

Round was 740 am on Saturday, 3-11. POP was brutal for the first 4-5 holes, and even though waiting time diminished greatly after that, overall the round was 5:10 or so. This was disappointing. However, the conditions were good. Smooth and fast greens although a couple of the pins were in very difficult spots, and the fairways were semi-lush. Rough was somewhat penal but very playable and the bunkers had good, soft sand as far as I could tell. I wish the round could have been in the 4:30 range but maybe that's too much to ask.

Played today in a horrible 5 hour pace (more later in review). Starter was great and got us right out, within 15 minutes of paying fees. Ran into problems on # 5 but things smoothed out (wait for it). Tee boxes are semi good because some have full coverage while others have grass still growing in (but no issues). Fairways were actually very good (even with recent football parking) and provided good roll out and lies during the round. Traps seemed OK and heard no complaints. Very little rough anywhere to deal with. Greens were in very nice shape and putted fast (especially on downhill puts like # 12). Played the front 9 in 2:15 and then it happened. When we approached # 12, we had 5 groups between the tee box and the green (1 group of 4 on the green and one group of 3 on the green, who they had waved up but could not finish putting out (??) before they arrived (???). 3 other groups standing on the tee box (mine included) waiting to play (???). Something I have never seen in all my years of golfing (unbelievable). We actually waited 30 minutes to play the hole, due to the 1st group in front, who insisted on putting out every putt. One jerk putted 6 times, while the group of 3, who they had waved up, stood there and waited? Well those of you who have played # 2 know how the next 6 holes went (could not wait till # 16 so I could leave). Great weather, nice course conditions but poor course management by not having a marshal out on the course. I have always liked playing Brookside (when conditions are good) but I believe I will never go back (they say never say never but I have to say it) and play either course. The golf management of Brookside, whoever they may be, should be ashamed to treat paying patrons this way? Total disgrace.

So my first time back on the course and at this course in over two months. Definitely showing the signs of summer. Last time I hit up Brookside it was just before the city championship and the course was in great shape.

This course could definitely use a month or two off to recover and some real TLC. You can see a few places where they laid down sod, and it just isn't catching. Looks dead already. Most tee boxes aren't level.

The greens are good overall but once again, TLC, so many ball marks. Maybe if they had the marshals fixing ball marks then players would know they should too?

The fairways are pretty good, but the rough is either non penal or non existent. The "driveways" for parking at the Rose Bowl also cut through a few fairways and haven't recovered.

The weird thing is the course didn't seem overly dry. Felt like it was getting water, just no TLC. Feels more like there is fungus or just too much traffic keeping the grass from growing more so than water and heat. But what do I know I'm not a greenskeeper or superintendent. Just wish they could throw more money into up keep since the setting is so perfect.

Nope, not a fan! It had been many years since I played the #2 but will be many years before I come back. If you have greens the size of a small bedroom, they can’t be rock-hard and expel sand wedges off the back of the green. Some of these greens are just stupid – I’m looking at you #s 6, 8(!), 9, 10(!), 16, and 17. Even with a short iron or wedge in your hand, you’ve got to have some place to be able to hit the ball, or it’s not golf – it’s just stoopid!

Played with my monthly club with a 10:00 am tee time, which meant we teed off “on time” (hey, just ask the starter!) at 10:20. Both courses active and carts stacked up literally out to the parking lot. POP wound up at about 5 hours. Course is short with large trees narrowing/encroaching on hitting lines. Greens are small, elevated, and have numerous tucked bunkers and some nasty slopes. Holes are close together and groups from other holes are frequently driving around in your line of sight.

Everything is dry and thin and hard ……… except where it’s soft and lush. Most of the greens were very firm – more firm and faster than the practice green, but at least green speeds were very consistent throughout the round. Good lies in the fairways when there was grass, but you could just as likely get a dry/bare/rototilled area. Rough the same – most was short and dry, but many green approaches and bunker surrounds were deep and lush. And it’s all the nasty sticky kikuyu!

Sand was great – they apparently recently refilled most/all the bunkers and no one had any complaints about the traps. Tees were a mixed bag – some OK, some uneven or sloped, par-3s very torn up. Many of the back boxes were closed and the blue markers set forward up on/with the white distance. Also the course, to save wear(?), pushes the markers to one side or the other, making it sometimes difficult to find a comfortable stance.

Many water fountains worked poorly or didn’t work. Range on mats today. Large putting greens (but, oops, see above!). Bring your own yardage tools. No thanks!

It’s been about a year since I’ve been to Brookside #2 and was looking forward to it. Had a 10:00 am tee time on Wed. 6/15 and got out for free as one of the guys won a foursome at a golf tournament. One of our 4 was late arriving because of traffic but we finally got out around 10:30. Interesting because in the time we were waiting, I noticed that the tee box was open for about 25 minutes even though there were a lot of people there. As such, the course was wide open when we got out. We got through in about 3:45 which is unusual at either course at Brookside. Could have been quicker but we finally caught up with a fivesome on the back nine.


The course is good shape right now. Fairways were in real good shape. The tee boxes were very recently aerated but no big deal. Greens were very nice and noticed there were not many divot marks which was really great to see. They rolled really nice and were pretty fast. The real surprise was the bunkers. Looks like all of the bunkers were redone with new sand. I wouldn’t call myself a great bunker player but it does make it easier knowing there is nice, fluffy sand to get out of and not hard pan.


The #2 course is short. It only plays at about 6,000 yards, if that. It’s not real difficult either. I sprayed a couple drives on the back 9 and still had clear shots to the green. The wash runs through the course and can come into play on a couple of holes (yeah, I found the wash on #4). Also, the guys in the starter’s booth were very friendly. Never noticed that before and was a nice change.


Brookside always seems to be busy. When we walked off of 18 at around 2:00 pm, both courses were lined with groups waiting to get out. The driving range and practice areas were also packed (doesn’t anyone work anymore?? LOL). It’s kind of good news bad news. The bad news is that the place is packed and will be slow. The good news is the place is packed which really helps out the golf course and the game of golf overall!!

Played 5/8/16. The course is in good shape right now. Tee boxes a little beat up, some of the hole have the Blue tees next to White due to repairs. Fairways and the rough have good grass coverage, minimal bare spots. Good amount of sand in the bunkers. Greens rolled at medium speed but rolled nice and smooth, any faster than that, some of these greens of Course #2 are un-puttable.
