Played this course at 9:25AM. We had played in a foursome. Pace was good. So much of the areas was muddy with standing water or so soft the ball would not roll . The greens had be worked on and a lot of ball marks. The ball never rolled near straight. The bunkers had NO sand in them. Nothing but hard gravel material. This course should have been open for play. Typical county management, money above all else. Will not be returning!

I had not played "little Brookside" since 2015, so was anxious to return. With a 6:15am tee time, played the first two holes in the dark. Despite being the first group out, I'm embarrassed to admit it took our walking foursome three hours forty five minutes to finish. Too slow !

The fairways were soaked, but lucky for us they had been mowing them, so there was a little roll. Lies however were very thin. (Maybe from parking cars?) Rough was a mixed bag, thin, thick, bare, inconsistent. Greens were the highlight of the course. They rolled well, held shots and it times were fairly quick. Bunkers were well maintained, but some had sand, some didn't.

I remember when this course was 5700+ yards from the tips. Well father time, lengthening it some 300 yards, and wet conditions, caused it to play more like "big Brookside" for me. I enjoy the parklike setting, particularly on holes 10 thru 13. Plus $20 green fees makes it all that much better !

Was out playing #2 on 9/29 as part of a tournament. On a rather cool morning, off at 7:30 shotgun start and unfortunately, about a 5 hour round. Not sure why so long but what are you gonna do? Fairways were pretty good considering there was some thin spots out there. Fairways were wet and damp which meant no roll out and the course played much longer than the 6025 listed on the card from the blue tees. Was hitting it pretty well off of the tee and still had long irons into the green. The rough was that dang, thick kikuyu. Ugh! Really thick. Wasn’t in any bunkers but they looked wet. The greens rolled pretty nicely even though they were aerated about a month ago. A couple of holes like 11, 12 haven’t recovered fully from aeration but the others have. So not bad all things considered. If ever playing Brookside on a weekend, you’ll see a lot of activity around the course. Joggers, walkers, bicycles and of course once month, the swap meet at the Rose Bowl. Fun actually to see all this activity so it is a fun course to play. They lowered their rates which is something you never see so give it a go.

Early out, early finish. Only way to go. Took advantage of new price changes for seniors ($20 to walk). Found the course to be in relatively good shape, given the amount of play it gets. We did not have a single issue as it related to tee boxes, fairways, rough, traps or greens. Glad I got out early, as it was very busy when we finished. Customer service was excellent at all levels. I will play it again, but before the football season (which is next month). I know the parking will completely change the fairway conditions. It always has.

This is a great course to play if you are a junior golfer. You need shotmaking, accuracy, course management, and the chance to deal with well bunkered sloping greens. A low or mid handicapper here would defeat a low handicapper say at a Woodley Lakes or Encino almost every time. The Bad: The rough too thick. Maybe they are letting it grow for a tournament? The clientele are a bit odd. They are not nearly as friendly as the staff. Golf just takes too long out here in the afternoon. The traffic is horrible on the 110 going home. I will stick to Alondra even though it is not nearly the caliber off these two great courses.

Got out reasonably promptly for a 2:30-ish tee time Friday, 6/14, with a buddy and another twosome. The course was fairly busy, but not jammed, and I was surprised how many open Friday spots had showed up on the website the previous night. We got a $20 per person special that included cart. Teeing grounds here are generally in good shape — level with good coverage — although the par 3 15th was a bit worse for wear. As for the rest, it sounds a bit inflated, but in many ways the course condition parallels the current US Open, albeit on a minor scale. Shorter and tighter than the sister course, fairways were well covered with reasonable rollout, but I found the rough was particularly, consistently challenging. You could get lucky and have the ball sitting up, but more often it was punishing — sometimes to hack-it-out depth and occasionally I-thought-it was-right-here-but-can't-find-it depth. Definitely a score multiplier when you got off line. In the same vein, the greens here tend to be small targets, usually with slope and crowns, and they were pretty quick on the day. Throw in the green side rough for chipping and it had everyone in the group tentative at times. Greens are a bit thin skinned so they produced pitchmarks easily and could appear blemished, although the surface was actually in good shape overall. Bunkers were clean, firm and the ball tended to sit up.

I'm typically not a huge fan of Brookside, but it has its charms, and in the interest of variety and curiosity I was overdue to play here and I enjoyed it. The conditions overall are pretty good and the rough definitely bumped up the challenge. We got around in just under 4.5 hours, so the pace was steady. Recommended.

Was invited out to play Brookside #2 on Friday. Had 9:00 am tee time and was expecting a full house and a 5 hour round as usual but noticed it wasn’t very crowded at all. In fact found a parking spot close to the course which is rare. The starter said we could go out earlier so we did. Although waiting on the par 3’s with 2 groups deep, we still finished in a little over 4 hours.

The course is in good shape even with kikuyu fairways. Not much roll out on drives but you did get a good lie. The rough was not too thick/penal but it was still better to be in the fairway. Bunkers were in good shape. Some were damp but very playable.

The greens were very nice. Rolled true, were soft and were holding all shots. The greens are not tricky and pretty flat really.

Had a good time out there and a good lunch after. The course is pretty flat but it’s not an easy course even though it only plays about 6200 from the blues. Definitely recommend. Perfect weather and a course that is in pretty good shape, what’s not to like?

FYI...Brookside Nay Course #2 just aerated and sanded the greens this Monday (3/11/19). May want to give it 2-3 weeks to recover.

Booked a round on that 'necessary evil website' we all know for 8:28 on Sunday morning for Brookside E.O. Nay(course#2) for $42. Arrived about 45 minutes prior to tee time with designs on hitting a few range balls before the round. Range was mats only, which I understand is absolutely necessary due to the incredible volume of patrons of this facility. With about 20 stalls, I was lucky to find a spot. Two practice putting greens, one of which was open.
I don't know whether it was the high number of walking golfers, more here than any other place I've seen before, or the close quarters within the practice area, or what, but there seemed to be a very communal atmosphere amongst the golfers here. It's likely attributable to the gracious staff that seemed to handle the high volume of players very effectively. My group teed off about 25 minutes after our scheduled time, but shout out to Wendi, the starter who managed to keep everyone in good spirits despite the late start and informing us that a 5 1/2 hour round was the norm. She was spot on, btw. Wendi performed her job well, in managing the first tee and answering any and all questions we had about the course, and eager to do it.
Now to the course, fairways lush in most areas, a few dried up areas in some places. 7/10
Tee boxes were mostly level, there were a hand full that forced me to hunt a little bit for a good spot due to excessive divot damage. 7.5/10
Bunkers, which I found a few, some were good sand, with others seemingly more soft dirt than actual sand, but all were playable. The first bunker I found early in my round was kinda fluffy thick moist sand, very playable. Later in the round I found one that was pretty thin. 6.5/10
The rough on this course varies greatly. Between holes within the course, where the sprinklers get to, the rough can be very thick and penal. In some cases you won't see your ball outside of 15 feet, lol. On the outer edges of the course you can expect lots of very thin lies and dirt. 5/10
The greens on this course were a pleasant surprise actually. Of the high volume of players here, only a very small percentage struggle with not preparing their divots. There was always a few to repair on each green, but not nearly enough to be annoyed about. My guess would put them between 10 and 11 on the stimp meter, deceptively quick even with plenty of moisture. Not overly undulated, but plenty of slope and breaks to play (best be beneath the hole always, lol).
Overall, a great deal for the price. Be prepared for a long round on a crowded park like setting course, but a very enjoyable place to play. Will return very soon to play the more highly regarded C.W.Koiner(course #1).
