Played with a few friends this past weekend. Clubhouse staff was amazing and nice. Course wasn't in great condition. They have insane drainage issues so even though other courses had had time to dry out, this one was like playing in a marsh. Several balls we hit just stopped dead on fairways from how soggy they were.

Greens weren't in great condition either. Overall reminds me of De Bell, but for double the price with a guest fee.

Pace of play was great though. Got in and out in around 4:15

Got out with a buddy who found out about the opportunity to play as a non-member. A showcase day or something. Bring a donated toy and the greens fee was $40. Pretty good price to play an actual country club and it included a box lunch and some cookies. I had played the course once before and remembered very little of it. I did remember it was punishing with a lot of altitude changes. As far as conditions, wintery, but pretty good. Tees boxes were thin and frequently more sandy than grassy, but level and not a problem. Fairways were seasonally tight and multicolored, but a minimum of actual bare spots — really pretty decent for this time of year and with the expected rollout. The rough can be anything from wild grasses to even and playable. it's a hilly area so consistency is not expected. Greenside areas were a little mixed, from tight to more forgiving chipping lies, to lumpy. Some wet, muddy ground around the 8th green, but that was atypical. Bunkers were pretty good. Some were a bit heavier with moisture but most were not and they were groomed. The greens were fast, firm and clean, barely giving up pitch marks. I really had no complaints about conditions. The course itself is its own worst enemy. For those of you familiar with DeBell, it is almost the same yardage and a very similar, demanding experience as by product of being shoehorned into a hillside. Given the opportunity, I might come by here once a year or so to take up the challenge. But I couldn't imagine wanting to play it regularly, much less as a member. I do have to mention that it was a classic, clear SoCal winter day and the views from most points on the course were amazing and it is worth playing there at least once just for that.

They have dramatically improved the conditions since last time i was here. Greens are great, fast and smooth. No ball marks as the members do take care of their course.

Fairways are ok. Some areas have bare spots but overall, good coverage. Bunkers could use some sand as the one we were in did not have enough.

This is course is a bit funky. Not your typical course as it is tight and unforgiving. Bring lots of balls. Few interesting holes that will tickle your fancy and give you something to talk about.

Certainly not the best in the area but then again it is not that bad considering the pace of play and conditions, i wouldnt mind playing here.

They have a warm up cage, a chipping area and a nice putting green. NO GPS on the carts.
Food is decent.

Greens were pretty slow but in good shape. Fairways were nice. Traps were pretty hard packed. Great views from almost every hole.

Member for a day - scarred for a lifetime at LaCFCC.

Need to clean out your bag of all the "extra" balls with strange names and suspect markings on them - come to LaCFCC! Plenty of tight holes, forced carries, ball gobbling rough and blind corners to end any relationship you and your ball were attempting to start.

LaCFCC has been shoehorned into what often seems to be leftover space on the side of a hill. Any decent space for a hole has been butterflied into multiple holes leaving little space for something like hole design or bunkering because even a bunker would fill up too much fairway to be anything but cruel. The area of the 1st, 18th, and 10th hole outside the clubhouse is a crowded elevator of activity where so much is going on in such a close space that it can feel like you teeing off on the concourse at LAX.

Positives: A Country Club without pretention - everyone was nice. Plenty of free drinks in coolers of ice every couple of holes. Wonderful views from a decent percentage of the holes.

Other: Greens seems strangely slow and some had areas of grass and bare dirt on them. Fairways were a mottled lemon/lime of equal parts green grass and yellow/brown dying grass. Rough was completely all over the place. From thin to "I can't see my shoes." Bunkers seemed a consistent mix of 1 inch of brown sand over hard ground. The driving range is a 6 spot batting cage placed under the flightpath of a well hit draw from the 10th tee.

Played here today as part of a "member for a day" outing through GolfSouthernCal. $60 a player or $200/foursome was a reasonable enough rate, especially since they had plenty of breakfast treats, snacks, and beer/soda/water out beforehand and a great lunch spread afterward. 9:30 shotgun start, but a few slow groups really mucked up the works and we had to wait on every tee. Took just over 5 hours, which was disappointing.

The course isn't too pretty for winter, but it played decently. Tee boxes, fairways and rough were mostly dormant (primarily kikuyu grass) and lies were sometimes inconsistent, but never too bad. On the positive, the sand traps had very good sand and the greens played very nicely. They rolled smoothly at medium speeds. Firm surfaces, but receptive to well-struck shots. Very small and deceptive greens here with the natural slope coming off the steep hillsides. Anything above the hole was nearly impossible to stop and most putts from below would fall short of the hole or tail off sideways once losing speed.

I knew this was a short old course and pretty hardcore "target" golf. That's putting it mildly. It tops out at only 5783 yards from the blue tees, but they had all the tees bunched together today so it was playing less than that. It's funny they have four sets of tees here, because there was rarely more than 10 yards separating the back (blue) and most forward tees (gold). In many cases, they were all lined up about a yard apart from one another and it was rather silly. This is definitely a quirky course. The cart paths are routed terribly in places and there are many places where you are hitting right next to or over other people on another tee, fairway or green. Several blind and semi-blind shots, too. The whole course is just crammed on the hillside and it was very dangerous and confusing with a large group of players who didn't know the course well. At times, it's fun because it is so ridiculously narrow, but there are so many uncomfortable tee shots here it can also wear on you. I normally like target courses, but I won't be any hurry to play here again. Part of me would like a rematch with it now that I know what needs to be done on certain holes, yet the other part of me is content to just check it off the list and be done with it.

I will say the staff was very nice and the course has a cool setting up in the foothills. I loved the view on the 11th tee with the LA skyline peeking through the hills in the distance on a clear day. I can also say it's the first regulation 18-hole course that I've ever played with a par-3 as the 1st hole (at least I'm pretty sure), and it's a pretty uncomfortable tee shot to start with. Luckily, as a shotgun, we started on the 11th and had some time to warm-up before getting to it.

Traveled thru downtown to get to LCFCC in the foothills, very picturesque course with fantastic views of the LA basin. First time playing here (team play practice round) and I had heard how tight some of the fairways were, Johnny has the only review so far, so I knew what to expect (thanks, big guy, that and the pictures helped a great deal!). Accuracy is important off the tee on most every hole or you're OB or going into the grunge, and course knowledge is a must. Many short doglegs, too, and a lot of elevation change. Kikuyu/Bermuda (dormant) is what you play off here, and bumpy but quick Poa greens, some had slope up the ying-yang, very difficult to read. Above the hole can be extremely difficult to get it close. Bunkers had great sand and texture. Layout in the foothills very similar to De Bell. Condition-wise it's got a muni feel, not a high end CC by any means, but the locals and staff were friendly and helpful. All in all, I like tight, target golf and enjoyed my round. But if you spray it you will be in for a long day.
