Super Bowl Sunday round at Roosevelt which is a nine-hole course but takes almost the same amount of time as an 18-hole course on busy weekends. I don't recall this course allowing fivesomes before but every group out there - including ours - turned out to be one. It was definitely slow going as the round took three hours, but it was a nice threesome that joined my buddy and me, and a beautiful day in picturesque surroundings, so we survived it. Barely.

Course is in good shape right now relatively speaking but it will always have too much tree cover to ever be completely 'lush' in my opinion. But it's so unique and interesting for a nine-hole. Holes 2, 4, 6 and 8 can be real adventures if you're not at your best.

Right now the greens are probably the best part of the course. The fairways have good coverage in the main areas but things can get thin real quick on the fringes. Rough is nice and playable in most areas if it's grass and not mayhem. Tee boxes (played the blacks) are definitely in need of more grass or better-selected areas, while the bunkers looked just okay but I avoided them all day.

Nice little snack shop now at the start and the putting practice green is ample, but there's no range so keep that in mind before your round. And finally, at $23 for the round, it's a steal.

Snuck out with a buddy for a late afternoon round at Roosevelt last Friday and found the course to be in quite good condition comparatively. No, definitely not in peak shape, but it's very playable right now despite some setbacks that seem pretty customary at this little Griffith Park gem.

Greens are okay right now but still suffer from lots of bumps and ball marks as is customary here, but it wasn't as bad as past visits. Fairways have decent to good coverage overall but there are some thin areas for sure. Bunkers were just okay, and the tee boxes same.

It's usually a three-hour round at Roosevelt but this went much quicker and we actually even got some great weather just before the weekend turned a bit more dire. It's just a fun experience but don't think it's a cakewalk as there are probably four holes that are really challenging on this course.

Ran over to get a quick nine in Thursday, 7/11 @3:00, because the heat had backed off from the previous day's high. Course conditions overall are as per usual with one exception. They are resting the tee boxes and markers are almost all bunched well forward or occasionally off to a side. Otherwise the fairways are good, greens ran medium and gave up pitch marks easily and the bunker I was in had pretty decent sand although they all need raking. More interesting and challenging than your usual nine-holer, I always enjoy coming here for a change of pace. Also got to hear music floating over from the Greek most of the round.

Walked on out here today around 5:45 instead of sitting in traffic back to OC after the GK/GolfMoose outing at Oaks Club of Valencia. The course was surprisingly not very busy at all and I was able to play alone and finished in about 90 minutes, even taking my time to take lots of pictures. Glad I was able to cross this one off the list without the 2.5-hour nine it's known for.

Conditions are pretty good. Greens are nearly healed from aeration and rolled medium speed. Early evening is a tough time to judge poa annua greens because they weren't very smooth nor pure. They were probably around medium firmness. Fairways and rough had decent coverage. Many tee boxes were closed, making already-short holes play shorter than the card yardage. They were also pretty beat up but at least you can tee it up. I wasn't in any bunkers.

First time here. I've wanted to play it for a while but it's not really worth making the trip just to play here, so catching it on the way home today was perfect. Only $11 to walk. Definitely a fun little course with some nice views of the Griffith Observatory and a few glimpses of Downtown LA. (I'm sure this will never happen, but cutting down some of the large trees around the perimeter of this course would open up some phenomenal views of downtown and be absolutely stunning.)

Luckily hit the ball pretty straight so not really in the rough or sand. Not low end of the muni circuit, as the course is covered in grass with few bare spots. Pretty easy to get on, on a weekday afternoon and time to finish the 9 holes. They rebuilt 2 of the tee boxes in the past year or two, and have already lost one to spotty coverage. Couldn't find a flat space to stand on one of them as two different types of grass basically made little hills. A little disappointing for all the work they did. Will I go back? Yes. Would I drive far to play? No.

I hadn't been out to Roosevelt in a good while, generally electing for 18-hole courses, but grabbed a last-minute single time for 4:40 on Friday afternoon joining another single and a pair of brothers. The conditions are generally good here although, on the day, the blue and black tees were combined forward in the teeing grounds with the white and red further up. This left most of the teeing area reserved. I'm assuming it is for some kind of maintenance but only the first tee had any areas actually roped off with some indications of reseeding. But this is not the kind of course you go to to quibble about where exactly you tee from and any legitimacy it conveys. The place is hilly, pastoral and chill with an abundance of LA landmarks adjacent or within view. The tee boxes in use were a little worse for wear but serviceable enough. The fairways are in good shape, well grown in and a good length. Rough, where grass, varies with some thick areas but most playable for recovery. There are some wild areas you can get into not far off some of the fairways. I missed the bunkers and wasn't paying attention, but I noticed the one on the fourth fairway seemed to have good sand in it, albeit it not particularly groomed. Shots into the greens readily produced pitch marks and I repaired a bunch, but the greens were in decent shape overall and played well enough at a medium pace. The $11 bucks I payed was less than a bucket a most places these days and I'd much rather be working things out on the course. The others in the group were pleasant enough companions and we finished after sunset with enough light to track the balls from tee to green on the downhill final par 3. It definitely has some challenges to go along with some nice views, but it seems to come with a relaxed vibe — in a way, a scene as much as scenic. Very enjoyable as a change-of-pace casual round.

Roosevelt is a 9 hole gem in the middle of Los Angeles. The fairways are very nice. The greens are nice and fairly quick. I played it last August 5. The views of Los Angeles and the observatory are great. The price is very fair. The course is 9 holes - 6 par 4's and 3 par 3's. There are no electric carts. It is a great course for beginners which makes it play slow on weekends. About 2:45 for 9 holes. Don't be in a hurry and enjoy the views and wildlife!

Out on Sunday 8/7 as a single joining four others for a 10:30 start. There is enough detail in the thread about the character of this course, which I enjoy very much, but I'll keep this short. Nice all around conditions, greens were clean, medium paced and on the soft side, taking deep pitch marks. I avoided the bunkers but they looked OK. Fairways were good and green. Fairway-adjacent rough not too penal but beyond that you can be in the wilds. Pace was sluggish but nobody cared. Friendly, easy going group made for a pleasant round. The long uphill tee shot on the second hole will test you for length while the rest of the course is not particularly long. That said there are some pretty challenging holes in the mix that require precision. With a hilly topography, the walk is a workout for nine holes, the views are classic LA, and the course is fun. If you've never been here, it really is worth checking out. Be prepared to hang out in the breezeway afterwards and have a beverage while soaking up the vibe.

I really like the LA City network of courses, which this is a part of. It's a nine hole executive course, consisting of six par 4s and three par 3s. None of the holes are particularly long, but it's up in the hills, which provides some challenges, between the elevation changes, doglegs, and trees.

Like the other LA City courses, it's in surprisingly good shape, given how much play it gets - it's booked all day, every day, AND they allow fivesomes (which does slow play down, especially since it's also walking-only). There are bare/thin spots in some areas, particularly tee boxes, but for the most part, it's lush everywhere, and the greens roll well. And at a cost of less than $20, you can't beat the value.
