Arroyo is one of my go to courses in Orange County. The personnel could not be friendlier and more welcoming. The course was in good shape (with the exception of the below comments).

It was terribly obvious someone was wearing metal spikes, and that person apparently shuffled their feet when they walked! I saw one guy playing barefoot in a very slow and somewhat unfamiliar with the etiquette and rules of golf foursome (driving up right next to greens, very slow, continually searching in vain for lost golf balls…way more than three minutes worth!). I figured he was the culprit trashing the greens but sadly, the greens continued to be torn up! And really, not just a little bit. We mentioned it to the Marshall who had already been notified but he couldn’t locate the person responsible. To Arroyo’s credit, they did put out a message to all golfers via the cart computer screen regarding “feet shuffling” on the green but it made no difference. That, and there were a lot of ball marks left untouched! I’d love to blame my lack of low number of putts on that, however, I will claim operator error!

Despite the above, a great day on the course and Arroyo never seems to disappoint!

As COVID ramped up at the end of 2020 my wife and I decided to hunker down and minimize outside contacts. Big bummer for both us and the grandkids(!). But now we both have had our 2 vaccination shots, nobody has been sick, and we’re starting to get back out in the world. I signed up for the GK Cup Final at Desert Willow on Sunday, 3/14, so I wanted to get some swings in for my first round since mid-November. Played down the road from my house at AT on Thursday, 3/11/21, booked at 3pm but the starter slotted us in at 2:40pm, giving us more time to finish – thank you, Mark. We caught a break in the rain and had a beautiful, refreshing afternoon. Despite the morning tee sheet being jammed, the course didn’t look that crowded and we moved along with no problems as a twosome with my high school buddy, finishing just as it got too dark in ~3.5hr, even behind the group in front of us taking their d**n time on the 18th fairway.

Overall the course is in pretty good winter condition. Greens had good coverage but were visibly thin and mostly firm (some inconsistencies), and were very quick in all directions. High shots held with some release, and there weren’t too many unfixed ballmarks. Fairways, as usual at AT, have good coverage but are low and tight, making good contact a must and making chipping/pitching around greens very challenging. In general fairways gave good runout, although the course needs to address the tee-shot landing areas on hole #12, where a solid drive on this long par-4 is required, and well-hit balls tend to die a quick death on landing. Otherwise no obvious problem areas from the recent rain. Rough almost everywhere is low and dry, and many times the putter is the best choice to recover from around the greens. Tees were well-groomed and mostly flat, although a few sloped to the back of a right-handed golfer. We played White (6.115/69.3/124), although several white markers were placed well forward of the White plates. Plenty of sand in the couple of bunkers I visited, although without rakes there were unraked footprints in many bunkers.

Easy check-in in the shop and single carts are available at no extra charge, if requested. Starter was on top of the first tee. No cups on the putting green, but green and range open. Entry/exit markers being used throughout the course to minimize fairway turf damage – I’m a fan! No cart girl today. On-course bathrooms open, but bring your own drinking water. Sand bottles on the carts and 1 bottled water in the cooler with ice.

Recommended.

Got out yesterday 10/20 to play in the afternoon. Course is in beautiful shape regarding tee boxes, fairways and rough. The bunkers are okay. The greens are recovering from aeration about 2-2.5 weeks ago they still need some time, very bumpy and slow, especially in the afternoon. This course should be in great shape for November and December once the greens heal up.

Arroyo was in great shape. The personnel there are also top notch and super friendly. Highly recommend. There was one slow foursome three groups ahead of us and the Marshall got on ‘em! Great fun ... Continue »

Arroyo Trabuco is back open with single rider carts and walking. Course has really gotten everything in amazing shape during the shutdown. Greens show some minimal signs of the recent aeration but rolled smooth medium speed. Fairways are near perfection everywhere. Bunkers are much improved with good consistent sand. Rough is not too penal but in good shape. About as good of conditions as you could ask for out here and some good weather coming up.

Played on 2/15/2020 with some good weather, sunny and a light breeze. Course is in good winter conditions for So Cal. Fairways are dormant, but not too thin, mostly good lies out there, easy to catch it clean and judge the spin. Rough is minimal, course plays like a links course for the most part. Greens are in good shape, I'd say above average for the normal play out here, mainly smooth and true with some bumps here or there. Medium speeds. Bunker sand looked good for the most part, usually is hit or miss out here with the bunkers. A little pricey but a fun layout with no houses on the course always brings me back.

The big hero at the course right now is the greens. The GREENS are green and near perfect: 9.75+, since it is a public course and not everyone fixes their ball mark/plug there are some ball marks that are left, but really, I may have notice a few per green. I mean, the marks that have been left are very minimal - THE GREENS ARE GREAT.

The rough is normal, the fairways have some yellow spots here and there and there are a couple of fairways that are being attended to (taking care of drainage) = GUR. There has been no GUR that has interfered with my play over the last couple of months and I play here often. The sand traps are well taken care of, they are well groomed and the compacted sand at bottom and the loose sand atop are perfect, my only problem is that there are some small river stones mixed in with the sand. I'm not on the PGA tour and I am not going to bust my irons etc. so I move the little rocks if they would impede my stroke.

I love this course and I love that is just golf for the sake of golf, there are no homes on the track, every hole is different and it is gorgeous at Arroyo.

Arroyo Trabucco is always fun to play. The entire here is always super friendly and accommodating. As prior review states, greens healing well, but still show signs of the recent punching. Fairways were a little "thin" providing some needed roll out, but still playable. Both bunkers I found were well maintained with plenty of sand.

My only issue here, is as stated in the prior review; a bit pricey, but then again its Orange County.

This is one of my favorite courses, but can only play it a couple of times a year due to it not being financially friendly . We decided it was time to play this course as we saw the last review since the course was aerated. The greens still had some top sand and a few had aeration holes still visible. It appears that they are letting the greens grow out a little as they were slow. Hit a high shot to the green and your ball would stay where it landed. Rest of the course was in very good condition. If you hit the fairways expect your ball to roll. Traps contained good sand. Staff is friendly as always.
