One of the main reasons I play Arroyo Trabuco is because of the staff. Larry in the pro shop and Jim the starter are always super friendly and find a way to allow me to get out early before regular play. It is very much appreciated. There is a downside however, as frequently. (As in today) I encounter a great deal of maintenance. Since I followed the guy spreading fertilizer on the greens, all the greens were slow and had the residual "grains" which stuck to the ball unless you were diligent enough to wipe off the ball after every putt. This followed by another gut who was spraying the greens, so I couldn't speed up or slow down. Managed to play in about 2 hours 15 minutes, but it was a combination of waiting and being pushed if that makes any sense.

The fairways are probably as nice as I've seen them, Hard to judge the greens because of the "grit" on them, but I suspect later in the day they would be OK. Bunkers were well maintained with lots of sand. A few tee boxes needed attention, but most were just fine.

Enjoy this course a lot. However it does not play "hard & firm" like it did when it first opened, or maybe I just hit the ball that much shorter now ? I suspect that's more accurate .

Overall the fairways were nice and green and the traps had a decent amount amount of sand. POP was a slight over 4 hours.

Arroyo used to be the best experience and layout in OC. For the past couple years they have struggled with many greens no matter what time of year. Hired a new super to try and revive them but nothing seems to work. They punch and topdress greens almost every three weeks! Played it a dozen times the past six months and it's the worst putting experience compared to any other track in OC. The boxes and fairways are usually pretty good. Grass range is a plus. However, inconsistent is the name of the game. Some greens are average, some are mediocre and some are downright unplayable. The customer service and experience is still good compared to other local tracks but greens need a huge makeover.

This is one of my go to courses. Recent heavy rains so some of the fairways I managed to find had a few wet spots but that's to be expected. Good value! Today's marshal was a little off his game...there was a group in front of us who frankly didn't know or understand a few etiquette unwritten rules...no problem there, but he really didn't help them with a bit of knowledge...only saw him once on the course! They were probably two holes behind the foursome in front of them! I realize it was a Sunday so I didn't expect to get done in under four hours.
The greens were a bit inconsistent...some were brutally bumpy and a few were gym floor fast! Some had recent sod replacement squares and of course I seemed to find those lines. All in all, a fun round, and I recommend this course to anyone who has never been here. Great people!

Our foursome played 9/19 and tees off just before 7am. We waited on every shot for the group ahead of us the whole round. They were 1-1/2 holls behind the group ahead of them and not once did they ask if we wanted to play through. When on of our group complained to a marshal it was the typical response. The group ahead of you is within the allowed time frame. Who cares about time frame let the quicker groups go through!

Now my thoughts on the course. If you are not fussy about how the putting greens are then then play course excellent condition tee to green. If you fussy about the greens then think twice. The greens are puttable but have many bare spots and bumps. Greens on #15 & #18 are closed but there is a flag stick some 50 yards short of the greens. It’s just a flag in a larger cup in the fairway. Greens are better than Tijeras or Telega but that’s not saying much.

Played here today. I really like the layout. There are bailout areas for most shots. Pace of play was great. The fairways were in fine shape. However, the scarce crowd may have been the result of horrible greens. Are players avoiding AT cuz of the failing greens? They were patchy, uneven, checkerboard pattern. I had only a handful of putts that stayed on a consistent smooth surface. Otherwise, putts were an adventure thru multiple surfaces and speed. 6 weeks ago the greens were much better. I'll have to wait until cooler weather & healthier greens to return.

My favorite thing about playing here is the staff. EVERYONE is friendly and makes you feel welcome. Larry, in the pro shop is grea, always accommodating and get me out without issue.

Lots of maintenance to deal with this morning, but that's the cost of playing super early. The course is in decent shape, but the greens need some attention. I only had three greens which had been mowed, so for me they were slow and fuzzy. Lots of patches on the greens as well, but appears they are working to resolve the issue. Fairways were just fine, plenty of grass and very green. Greenside bunkers were just so-so. Many not raked, but due probably because I was in front of maintenance.

Super quick round - riding in just over one hour forty minutes. (Trying to stay ahead of the mowers) Just as well, because it was getting hot even when I finished at 7:38am

Played here for the first time in many years yesterday. I forgot how much i love this course especially when it is good shape. For some reason I always play good here probably because it fits my eye and it just feels right playing here. No homes, fantastic (IMO) layout, great restaurant, great service, and the pace was great. I think the course could definitely be in better shape especially for the amount they charge which was a $65 senior rate. The bunkers had plenty of sand, the tee boxes were all pretty level, the fairways were nice to hit from, and the greens were nice but could use some attention. The were a little furry, had a few patchy areas, and were also a little on the slow side. I saw three holes posted with signs stating these greens are slower than the others due to maintenance. All in all it was a great day of golf and i plan on returning to AT soon.
