Was feeling the itch for some dawn patrol golf last night, so I booked a 6:31 tee time at Meadowlark this morning. The online rate before 7:00 was $25 (cart included), which I thought was a good deal. Then when I checked in the guy said the walking rate was just $17, so I opted to save a few bucks and get a little extra exercise. I figured I'd be first off when I headed to the tee at 6:20 and there was barely any light, but a few old-timers had just teed off with glow balls ahead of me. Ultimately, they let me play through and I cruised around the front nine. Things slowed down on the 10th hole when I caught all the back-niners and I had to wait on most shots after that. Still, a 2:40 total pace was pretty great! I came in with low expectations, but was very pleasantly surprised by the conditions today. I can't imagine the course being in much better shape than it is right now. The tee boxes are generally fine, with some of the par-3s being a little chewed up. The fairways are great overall, with lush green coverage. Some weak spots here and there and a lot of divots in popular lay-up areas on the short par-4s, but I always had perfect lies. The primary areas of rough were also pretty nice, getting a little weaker the further you stray from the fairways or near any water hazards where the birds have done their damage. The last reviewer noted they just put in new sand. It is perhaps too soft right now and unfortunately even the best sand is useless if nobody rakes after themselves. I was in only one bunker and in the middle of a giant footprint! Lastly, the greens were good overall, soft and rolling pretty well at medium/slow speeds. I had only played this course once at least 10 years ago. I don't remember liking it that much and it obviously gets routinely panned here for weak conditions and/or slow play. I was actually quite impressed with the conditions today and the early bird round took slow play out of the picture for me. The course was packed by the time I left, so it seems early AM is the only time to avoid a really long round. Good deals are easy to find and it was well worth what I paid this morning. The layout is obviously super short, but it's kind of a fun mix of holes and a good confidence booster course. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm kind of a fan of Meadowlark after today. Kind of. : )

Ive been playing here about once a week for a month or two. They just got new sand in the traps. the only bad green is the 12th where they have mower scrapes from back to front, not too big of a deal. The employees are great, from the pro shop to the snack bar, they do a great job, and give great service and good food. The range is just mats but they do have a good chipping green in the practice area. I haven't played on a weekend here in a while but the pace of play is good, might clog a little bit on the par-3's like every course but not bad. Go play here, its only a 5600 yard course but its tough for the length. Plus if you walk, its a great workout. I hope to see you guys out there.

Was in the area yesterday and took a chance to get out. Worked out great. Customer service was excellent as they had me on the course 10 minutes after checking in (thanks). POP was great as well 3.5 hours. Course is in very nice shape with recent rains, winds drying things out but they have lost many large trees (2 along road on # 5 and 5 around 14 green and 15 tee) which is sad to see. Fairways were dry and playable, with good roll and had good lies all round, as the grass is coming in. Tee boxes were good. Some sand traps were better than others as maintenance had not cleaned all of them yet. Greens were great. Clean, void of divots, holding shots and putting really well. Had not played here in some time but do receive excellent email deals (which I took advantage of yesterday)and will look forward to going back soon.

Early tee time this morning, check in was quick and on time. The winds over the last couple days really did a number on some of the old trees. Big trees were uprooted and multiple crews were out cleaning up. The fairways, rough and greens had good coverage. Tee boxes were beat up and unlevel. They were replacing the sand in the bunkers and the ones that had not been done were rock hard. Greens were lush with little divot damage and were putting nicely. Nice day to play golf in HB.

I had seen some negative reviews about conditions and pace of play on Yelp. We also knew that the greens had just been aerated a week before, beginning of October, but, since my daughter had a tournament the following week, we didn't really didn't have a choice, and so our expectations were low. We mostly selected this tournament for her because she's just a middle schooler who has to compete with high schoolers and the course isn't too long. With an 8:50 Sunday 10/18/15 tee time, we were expecting a long day, but we were pleasantly surprised. They had decided not to aerate the greens, and we (1 rider and 2 walkers) were done in four hours. When I later inquired about the pace of play, we just had gotten lucky in that it just wasn't that busy at the time. The nice kid who was working the carts return mentioned that he teed off at 7 and it took him 5 hours, which was more typical. The greens were okay. As mentioned by the helpful starter, the greens had not been mowed that morning, so they were a little slower than usual. He predicted that the greens were probably going to be a little faster at the following week's tournament (my daughter reported they were). The kid working the carts return said the greens can get bumpy, but we didn't think they were too bad that day. Because of its short length, the course isn't too difficult even with water on several holes because they can easily be avoided, and there aren't too many bunkers, with some holes having none. However, it isn't clear on several holes as to how far the water is. As a rule, probably just better to leave it 100 yards short on the short par 4s and figure out yardages for next time (or use a GPS with yardages to hazards). I hit a six iron about 170 and ended up with a horrible angle on the short 8th hole. Should have only hit it 150 to avoid most of the water and trees. All in all, the course was better than expected with some interesting holes (water, drivable par 4, false green edge on one of the holes). As for negatives, the rough was awful. It is apparent that they have decided to focus irrigation and maintenance on the fairways which had decent coverage (better than Lakewood and maybe Rec Park). While there were some holes that had something akin to traditional rough (as in long grass), other holes had large sections of just bare dirt in some cases. I guess this is an acceptable trade-off, in stark contrast to Victoria which has large sections of dirt in the middle of the fairway and decent grass in the rough right next to it (go figure - nice greens though). The other negative was the bunkers, which barely had any sand. They were rock hard. Bottom line, a nice little course that just needs some more attention to the rough. Wouldn't mind playing there again if my daughter has another tournament to prepare for.

May be the last time I play the local course, greens were fine, fairways ok with some patchy areas but that can be due to the water shortage, sand traps ok....big complaint was the crowds playing..they started us on hole 3 and pace of play was terrible even with a "marshall" which did nothing to help...they cram too many folks on this course so it was not a pleasant day at all...a golfer in front of us "teaching his kids" then at 9 they added 2 guys with them that had flip flops and tank tops? It is obvious that this place is all about how much money and people they can cram on 18 holes with no one caring about the "game" at all...tank tops and flip flops? come on...you won't see me here anytime soon....

fairways were ok....lots of bare areas but due to the water drought? greens were good for the amount of play it gets, sand traps were so so....some were crusty and not much sand underneath...pace of play was horrendous.....too many people out, high school team play, little kids summer golf camp and then they put the regular public tee times in between? that needs to be addressed or we won't be playing there...spread it out a little...get a marshall out there..

played today on a screaming $9 for 18 holes walking...yes $9...that was an unheard of deal these days...although the course is on the short side...that doesn't make it easy...small greens make it a challenge and the trees will too...the conditions were great...only complaint were the sand traps ..they did have sand but they were "crusty"...i know there was rain in the morning..but never have i played in such crusty traps before...but other than that...played in 4hrs. and was enjoyable. you will use all the clubs in your bag here...again ..don't let the length fool you...it is a challenge...

we always have a good time here. The course is a good deal and its pretty easy .It has a number of short holes that can jump up and bite you and the par 3s are the hardest holes on the course. The locals are very nice here as are the staff and unless you play behind a tournament as we did this weekend pace of play is really good. We often come here in the summer as it always seems to have a nice breeze. The bar and driving range are average and there is a chipping area which is handy to warm up your short game. If your looking to challenge your game this might not be your best choice but if a well rounded friendly game in which all your clubs can be used and everybody gets to par a couple of holes then this place could be the ticket
