Played Sundy 5/20. The course showed no signs of the aeration earlier this month. The greens were decent speed and ran true. The fairways were perfect. The rough was not that thick except in areas around the greens, but it was also lush. I lost a couple of balls when I went outside of the cart path. The sand traps were only okay. The sand was slushy. One trap had an irrigation problem with erosion throughout and we played that as ground under repair. We played in about 4.5 hours after catching the group in front of us on the back nine. The only negative to the round was the price. We payed the rack rate of $280, including caddy fee but not tip. I will say that the caddy was helpful to me and I made a couple of long putts from his reads. His reads were inconsistent to others though. Had a great Ahi burger in the Pelican Grill afterwards. Overall, a good experience on a fun golf course.

What an absolutely great course and golf club. The staff treat you like a member and the course is in excellent condition. We were fortunate to play on a discounted rate with our membership at Oak Creek but in reality it's probably worth the posted green fees. The views were spectacular and the holes are memorable and challenging. Enjoy the treat if you can.

The facility is certainly a "Newport Beach" facility. Grandiose architecture - Italian villa inspired. I was a little disappointed that the driving range uses a long mat, rather than allowing us to hit off of the grass. Even Oak Creek plays off the grass and mats are secondary.

North Course a few memorable ocean views; but the first thing I remember when I think back about a week ago are the wide fairways are huge Newport homes viewed from the fairways.

Greens were smooth but slow that day. Tee boxes were well kept, as well as the fairways.

A treat to try - but I think I would choose the South Course as my favorite of the two.

(*caveat - the putting green on the right side of the range was a total red herring - slow as molasses, so I pumped it 10 feet by the hole for the first couple holes. (at) #%*!) For a first timer, the course is a bit disorienting - several blind tee shots or you often can't see the entire hole so you don't really know where to aim off the tee. (I ended up trying to stream the video flyovers on my phone during our round, thanks for nuthin AT&T). Good variety of holes and shot values though, will definitely return if i have the chance. Spectacular views of the ocean at sunset!

Played twilight at Pelican Hill North on Tues. 8/31/10. Not much you can say about this course. Beautiful design, beautiful views, great service, great pace of play (tee off at 3:05, done at 6:40). It's fantastic. I hate to say it, but the $140 twilight rate felt like a bargain given the quality of the golf. I love putting on these greens, so smooth. Get out there and treat yourself every once and a while.

Played the North course at 230 this afternoon. Service always great. Greens were smooth and medium speed. Slow into the grain away from the ocean. A little speedier with the grain towards the ocean. A tad slow at 4:45 but I really didn't mind as the views are great. We could hear the bell that rings on the buouy at the entrance to Newport harbor. We also heard the sea lions barking. Very good day ended with a beer watching the sunset from the clubhouse bar.

Played on Memorial Day for my buddy's 40th birthday. Weather was perfect as was the playing conditions of the course.

Service was top notch. For the expensive green fee you also get a forecaddy. Although he had only been working ta the course a short time, he definitely knew the game and was quick to get yardages and give you aiming spots. He made the day much more enjoyable.

I wouldn't play there unless it was much cheaper but for a special occasion it was great. Awesome views all the way around.

Played in the late morning on Saturday, 4/24/10, on a cool day that started overcasr and finished sunny and breezy. I wouldn't ordinarily play at a course this pricey but had a gift cert from the understanding wife. Course is draped over SoCal coastal foothills and offers great views of the ocean and sailboats, crazy huge homes, and lots of chances to shoot a quad.

Greens were in excellent condition, but very firm and crazy fast, esp. toward the water and/or downhill. Fairways were cut very short and were firm, so lies were good but what looked like good shots could roll out into trouble. Traps were in good condition, firm with thin sand. Rough around the greens could grab clubs - a firm hand is needed. Much of the hole surrounds are high grass or canyons from which balls never return. Front nine is longer and more difficult, back nine the wind comes more into play. Generally plenty of room off the tee, but approaches to greens are key and the ball needs to be put in the right place on the greens to allow you to do anything but putt defensively.

Forecaddie spent all his time chatting up the other twosome, who probably offered better gratuity chances. He consistently underread the breaks on my putts - after about 3 holes I started hitting it where I thought necessary. He was right about the speed, however. Challenging for players of all levels - come prepared to get beat up.
