Played the Blues (6190/68.4/120) with Aaron & Jude in 3 1/2 hours using Forelinx. The weather was partly cloudy and in the 60's. I enjoyed the layout more after seeing it once. Quirky layout that grows on you. The tees were mediocre overall. Some were lush, most were thin and several were very chewed up. The fairways are in winter thin condition with adequate coverage. The rough wasn't overly long nor overly penal. I was able to hit at least middle irons out of it without issue. There are large areas that are dirt or sand where the wash is located that plays like a waste bunker that comes into play on the right side of many holes on this layout. OB left and waste area right was a common theme on a majority of the holes. The traps well maintained with coarse brown sand. The greens looked good and the locals were raving about how good they were? However, if I ranked the last 50 courses I have played, these greens would be in the bottom 10%. They putted medium slow and were some of the bumpier greens I have played on this year. Not alot of slope, they were usually firm and held approach shots well. The customer service was excellent, they got me out as a single and I joined the 2some on the 4th hole. Not a great course and not in great condition. However, considering the price of the courses closeby, I could see why it was fairly busy. I would rarely play here, average on the difficulty scale in slightly below average condition, but it is a fun layout overall.

Played the Blues (6190/68.4/120) on dawn patrol as a single in 2 1/2 hours using Forelinx. The weather was poor, foggy and sprinkling a good portion of the round. First time playing here. The layout zigs and zags across & around the wash. You better pay attention to the signs or you may play the wrong hole or even hit to the wrong green on this layout. The tees were a mixed bag. Some were lush, most were thin and several were very chewed up. The fairways had adequate coverage in what I would call winter thin condition. Same for the rough, it wasn't overly long in most places and was fairly easy to play out of. They putted medium slow, were usually firm and held approach shots well. However, they were some of the bumpiest and furriest greens I have played on in some time. The customer service was excellent, they got me out 10 minutes before my tee time. Between the dark and the fog, tough to see the first few holes. Both 9's end on a par 3, which is unusual. Five par 5's is very unusual for a par 70 layout. All of which are reachable &/or scoreable, but on several you need to thread the needle, tight with OB lurking very close around several of the par 5 greens. Seven par 3's, a good mixture there. Only six par 4's, a couple of which longer hitters can get up close to the green. Quirky layout with some fun holes in mediocre condition about sums it up. I wouldn't play here often, but I did thought the layout was fun even if not super challenging.

First time playing here and wanted to check this off my never played list plus Golfmoose offering a deal of $32 - might as well try it, right?
Arrived and checked in at 1020am. Proshop personnel was easy to deal with - said it was wide open until noon-ish so we are welcomed to tee off anytime. we putt putt a little at the practice green and off we go. I guess I misunderstood... it was wide open at the tee sheet .. but not on the course. LOL

1st tee - we waited for a single to get done and off we go. teed off 1030am. finished 330pm for a 5 hour clip. I guess cant complain too much. Don't mind it if we are continuously moving but it was a stop and go - hit and then wait a few minutes.. repeat. so really cant get the groove going. it was good that we had a pleasant group to play with otherwise, it would unbearable.

Conditions were ok. I'm not expecting glass smooth greens and lush fairway for the price we paid. But I think they need to get rid of the 'river' in Riverview. it stinks and serves no purpose other than annoy the people playing and slow people down. Saw a few groups fishing for balls that they hit into the pond and then some.

We saw the bevcart parked near the bridge - apparently this is the 'snack bar' - a stationary cart parked there for all eternity. there was no food available so we ended up going back to the bar and grill to pick up sandwiches and drinks. People there were pleasant to deal with and prices were pretty reasonable. Granted there were still 2 groups waiting to tee of on 10th, we enjoyed out lunch leisurely while waiting for our turn.

It was a good day to be out playing. As mentioned, people here are nice. If in the area and have not played, I would take a swing at the Riverview. Having played it now, I have no desire to come back.

Like returning home - I played this track on Monday 6/8/15 as a walk on single without a reservation. This is the course on which I grew up - literally, as my parents still live off the fairway of the 11th hole, just a gap wedge away from the 11th green. It is a tight, narrow course on which you really don't need to play your driver, but rather need to think about hitting shots to small targets. There are lots of sloping fairways, mature trees and undulating greens to make this relatively short track a challenge.

After playing three balls on nine holes of their impressive 18 hole practice green (which is in immacculate condition, and gives a good indication of greens conditions on the actual course), I paid the $22 green fee to walk, and was sent on my way to the first tee. Playing under sunny skies with light breeze and temperatures that reached mid-90's, I played alone, with a cart riding twosome ahead of me, and a solo cart rider behind. On the 12th tee, the twosome allowed me to play through, and I saw no other players ahead through the finish. My round was complete in just over 3 hours.

When playing this course, I know not to have high expectations about course conditions, but I was pleasantly surprised at how good conditions actually were. Tee boxes were level, with some bare spots and divots, but good teeing ground could be found on quality turf. For the most part, I stayed away from the rough, but it ranged from lush and thick, to thin and dry, to bare dirt. I had to play from three bunkers (saved par all three times), where sand was maintained, but consisted of a mixture of sand and small river pebbles (they get the sand out of the river, you know) - shallow blast shots worked each time. Fairways were in pretty good shape, with lush grass coverage and very few bare spots. Balls sat up nicely, making for easy to strike shots. The greens were the highlight of the course, as usual, visually appealing with excellent coverage and no bare spots. They were soft and receptive to well hit shots, but would roll out on well played chips and pitches. Surfaces were smooth and rolled at medium to fast speed. It was nice to find so few ballmarks needing repair, beside my own.

After my round, I made the short drive to my parents' home, where we sat in the back yard watching birds and golfers, while enjoying a few cold brews. A good time for sure.

On Saturday 3/14/15, I joined new GK'er GolfNRolf for an afternoon round at the View. I called in a tee time for 2:30PM, and we played as a twosome, Rolf rode a cart while I walked - my greenfee was $20 twilight. Amazingly, we got around the entire course in less than 4 hours and 30 minutes, even while playing the ninth hole twice. On most holes we had to wait briefly for the group of four ahead of us, and the group of two behind never really pressed beyond the first 4 holes. Weather was anomalously warm - 97 degrees as I drove to the course - but a nice sea breeze blew for most of the afternoon.

Pro shop attendant was courteous, and snack shop attendant sold me a good cold beer before my round, but discouraged me from buying another beer at the turn due to the taps "not being cold" enough. Good thing my father had a cold beer ready for me as I passed by my parents' home on the 11th hole. We did not see any marshal on the course, nor any drink cart service, but there were lots of teens drinking and smoking in the shade at various locations.

On the course, conditions were a mixed bag. Tee boxes were generally level, with good lush grass coverage, but many tee boxes were chewed up with unrepaired divots. Rough was not well delineated from fairway, and varied from lush and thick to bare dirt. I played from several bunkers, where sand was thick and pebbly, but very playable - I made a few nice sand saves. Unfortunately, most of the bunkers that I saw had numerous unraked footprints and shot marks, even with ample rakes (I cleaned up where others had not). Fairways had generally good coverage, with good lies in center parts of the fairways. However, they were hard in places, especially those holes played in the riverbed - we both hit shots that bounced and rolled from the middle of fairway off the edge into the rough. Note that the course has a local rule which defines the riverbed as a lateral hazard - I played several shots from the hazards. Unfortunately, there were many unrepaired divots in the fairways, and I found my ball deep in a divot on the 17th fairway. Too bad that the majority of players on this course ride carts but can't use the divot filler supplied with the carts. I didn't see any other walkers on the course.

Now for the best part of the course - the greens. Visually, they look very appealing. Uniform green, lush and smooth, without any bare spots or discoloration. All greens were soft, but not spongy, and held well hit approach shots, though many pin placements were very near the edges, making for some tricky approaches. Putts rolled true at medium to slow speeds. Undulations and the river make for some big breaking putts. Unfortunately, due to the pebbly sand in the bunkers, many of the greens had lots of loose impediments near those bunkers. And as usual, there were many unrepaired ball marks.

Given that I grew up on this course, I approach it with not the highest expectations. It served up an enjoyable round, especially for a weekend afternoon.

Played River View on a pleasant Saturday afternoon before the rain came in. Round was took only 3 1/2 hours, walking. I think the forecast of rain kept people away, but I have walked this course a couple times in under 4 hours so I wasn't totally surprised, don't always expect it either as I have seen the course packed before as well. Conditions were generally ok for the rate. Whenever there is rain, water will come through the riverbed area where a couple fairways also run through. These fairways are generally a little more beat up, as there were today, than later on in the spring and summer. They are still very playable with a few bare spots here and there. You really just want to stay away from any areas where water once ran through or is still standing as that is where you will encounter most of bare spots, sediment and rocks.Fairways above the riverbed were excellent. Greens were in good shape, running at medium speed. Tee boxes are hit and miss as are the bunkers. As always, this course serves its purpose in getting out to chase the little white (or yellow) ball around.

Fairways left something to be desired. Sand in most bunkers was more like crushed rock. Had a good time. Money well spent,

9 holes open. Paid for 18 holes. Made the turn carts lined up to tee off. No control over course play. Temporary holes due to water. Horrible experience. I will never go back to this course.
