6/3 using Golf Moose $49 2some voucher 320 POP with what felt like a lot of waiting on the 2 some in front of us spending extra time talking on the tee and meandering on the fairway--but pretty quick on the green. I know that there really wasnt much time to gain but the behavior noticeable and by about 13 there was a hole open ahead. Reminded me of a round a couple of years ago in Salt Lake where the 2 4somes ahead of us both would wait to tee off when the group ahead got to the green--I guess so they didnt have to wait in the fairway. Overall course is in good shape--fairways pretty well grown in with just a few patches of odd grass clumps here and there only rarely making for a challenging lie. No real rough. Bunkers full of thick maintained sand--quite playable. No water in the river--played it as waste area and of course the time I am in it after what should have been a really good drive on 4, I end up in a huge deep foot print(twice) and to add insult to injury on the next hole my playing partner hits a rather poor drive out into the "waste area" ending up on a perfectly flat area that looked to have been dragged just for him. Tees generally level and grassy. Greens are well maintained on the softer side very receptive rolling smoothly at medium speed. Friendly service very casual--just get in line when ready and play away.

Played the Blues (6190/68.4/120) in 3H as a single on their B-day promotion. Thanks River View for having me out! The reason I played in 3H as a single was the weather was windy and ranged from sprinkling to overcast.

The tees were much improved over my last visit here 3 months ago. Fairly lush with most divots filled in. Also worth noting that they had resodded a few previous problem areas.

The fairways were thin but had adequate coverage.

The rough is also thin. Not overly long or overly penal to play out of. They have large areas that are dirt or sand where the wash is located that plays like a waste bunker that comes into play on the right side of many holes on this layout.

The traps were decently maintained with coarse brown sand that I found to be Okay to play out of.

The greens look nice and putted medium fast. Usually firm and held approach shots well. Easily some of the better Poa greens I have putted on recently, smooth and remarkably few ball marks for a muni that gets alot of play.

The River View layout often creates a bottleneck by starting with a short, potentially driveable par 4 and following that with two consecutive par 3's. The quirky layout zigs and zags across & around a wash, which still had some water today.

The customer service was excellent, quick efficient check-in by Calden in the Pro Shop, who got my B-day round processed, a bounce back $5 off certificate plus a free drink voucher in less than 5 minutes. Rafael in the snack stand delivered what is a "must" here, one of the best burgers available at any golf course in Southern California, and it costs $4.35! No drink cart or Marshall today since there were about a dozen people total out playing as the storm came through mid day. I was lucky and played about 15-16 holes dry. They have a very nice putting course laid out on the putting green. I wouldn't play here often, but it does have some fun golf holes. Recommended = Yes, the greens are well above average even if the rest of the course is barely average.

Played the Blues (6190/68.4/120) as a single in 3H, 15M using Forelinx. The weather was sunny, breezy and in the 70's.

The River View layout zigs and zags across & around a wash which currently has water. Unique in that this is the only par 70 course I have ever played that has 5 par 5's. Also the only regulation course I have ever played that has more par 3's (7) than par 4's (6).

The tees were only improved because I emptied about 12 bottles of sand on them yesterday. Mowed close, but they look like a mine field with all the divots. This is really a significant detraction on a course that has 7 par 3's.

The fairways were winter thin, and anything in any lower lying area was still muddy. Not good to play off of.

The rough is also winter thin and not overly long or overly penal to play out of. They have large areas that are dirt or sand where the wash is located that plays like a waste bunker that comes into play on the right side of many holes on this layout. Within 10 yards of the "river" was more like quick sand today.

The traps were decently maintained with coarse brown sand that I found to be Okay to play out of.

Other than #2 green, the other 17 greens look nice and putted medium fast. Usually firm and held approach shots well. #2 has many areas that are bare that will affect putts to many pin locations.

The customer service was excellent, quick efficient check-in. Player Assistant friendly and out patrolling. They have a very nice putting course laid out on the putting green. However, recommended = No. Not even shooting a decent score and my 1st eagle of the year make me want to come back and play on the disappointing condition of both the tees and fairways until they significantly improve.

Played the Blues (6190/68.4/120), matched up with Akisu, Kevin, Rob & Jeremy using Forelinx. The weather was sunny, breezy and in the mid 70's. POP was dreadful, took well over 5 hours to play 18. When we got to #2 tee, there was a 4some on the green and a 3some, 5some and 2some in front of my original 3some waiting to tee off. We eventually joined the 2some and made another 5some because there were frequently 2+ groups waiting on every tee anyway. It actually paced better after we became a 5some. The River View layout creates a bottleneck by starting with a short, potentially driveable par 4 and following that with two consecutive par 3's. It zigs and zags across & around a wash, which still had water today. The tees were the worst I have played on in probably my last 75 rounds. Many tees had in excess of 100 unfixed divots. It did not look like any regular maintenance other than mowing and moving the tee markers had occurred in a good while. I used all the jugs of divot mix our three golf carts had on one par 3 tee and barely made a dent in the amount of unfixed divots. The fairways were winter thin with adequate coverage. However, the fairways in any lower lying area was still muddy, which made them poor to play out of. The rough is also winter thin. Not overly long or overly penal to play out of. pop 3 15 started behind a 4some of newer golfers who let us thru on 4 then it was like a private outing the rest of the way
fairways are better than average for this time of year played em down no issue. not much rough in general but where there were patches and i found them it was 1-2 inches
majority of tee boxes were level-- par 3s were often chewed up but were playable
sand traps were groomed and appropriately filled except on 11 front bunker was thin and hard packed and had not been groomed since the rain
the greens are exceptional the best we have played in the area. receptive, smooth with consistent speed from one to another (and consistent with the practice green) they are as good as they look a deep dark green just wonderful
a great day i early feb 67 with a light breeze get out here and play this course !!! its not long but requires control and with many elevated greens it presents a good variety to keep your attentio. even better use the GK coupon

But although the course was in no means in good shape it was decent and the customer service was great. It really is a quircky course. I love hitting into elevated greens and I had a lot of opportunity to do so. Pop 2hr 15min

Played the Blues (6190/68.4/120) using Forelinx. Matched up with Jim, Christine, Jillian & Alissa for 9, then 9 as a single. POP was 4 1/2 hours total, 3H for the front, 1.5 H for the back during the busy holiday period midday. The weather was partly cloudy, breezy and 60ish. The quirky layout zigs and zags around & across a wash, which is usually dry except after a recent storm. Definitely a tougher layout with water in the wash area. The tees were mediocre. Some were lush, most were thin and several were very chewed up and in need of both leveling and especially divot repair. The fairways were in winter thin condition with decent coverage. The rough is not overly long or penal to play out of. They have large areas that are dirt or sand where the wash is located that plays like a waste bunker that comes into play on the right side of many holes on the layout. Within 10 yards of the "river" was more like mud today. The traps were decently maintained with coarse brown sand that I have found to be good to play out of. There was not a frost delay but probably should have been, at least 8:30 before the frost was off many shady areas of the course. The layout zigs and zags across & around a wash, which actually had water today. After only previously playing here when it was dry, the difficulty goes up substantially on the right side of many holes when the wash actually has river conditions. So there was a river even if there still was no view! The tees were at best average. Some were lush, most were thin and several were very chewed up. The fairways were in winter thin condition with adequate coverage. Same for the rough. Not overly long or overly penal to play out of. They have large areas that are dirt or sand where the wash is located that plays like a waste bunker that comes into play on the right side of many holes on the layout. Riverview in Santa Ana...Played today, 12-28-15. I had credit from an expired voucher so I only had to hand over $3. I thought for that I wouldn’t mind playing on the really hard, bare, ugly fairways in very cold, windy weather. Riverview has the best practice green I’ve seen. It’s got 18 holes with lots of undulations and is always in very, very good condition. Most of the greens on the course are just as clean, smooth and fast. There was even some water in the riverbed on 3 of the holes. The bunkers were either wet and muddy or pure gravel. POP was painfully slow as we were stuck behind a fivesome who shouldn’t have been playing the blues, and we had to wait a long time on every hole. After 15 holes, all I wanted was to get out of the cold, so I called it day.
