2:15 tee time Saturday 7/13. I'll break this down by listing the good and bad. First off the good, 3:45 min. round, fairways nice and lush with some severe rough around the green. Now the bad, can someone please roll the greens, verticut the surface or something. They are extremely slow and bumpy, the poa annua greens are flowering like crazy, the ball just bounces all over the place. Very disappointed with the overall condition of all the greens. I'll definitely be staying away from the pride of the pacific until they do something about there greens.

The Pride of the Pacific, San Clemente Municipal golf course, is in great shape. Fairways are lush and green with the rough challenging and the greens are running about 9. Temp’s were running about 15 degrees cooler than inland today. Pace of play was 4 ½ hours.

Foursome teed off about 9:30. Greens have mostly recovered from punching but are still a bit bumpy. Fairways and rough in great shape with few bare or wet spots. Tee boxes are flat and a little thin. Traps were well-raked, dry, and soft.
Great views of ocean, breeze comes up around 11:00. Back nine more challenging with elevation changes and canyons.
Finished in just over four hours. Senior rate makes this a real sweet deal!

Played 4/25, walked on as single around 11. Sunny day with the wind whipping of the coast 15-20 mph, played the blue tees. Overall course conditions were good. Tee boxes fairways and greens are what to expect from this muni layout, considering all the play this track gets, I would rate it 7/10. The rough was pretty lush on some holes, made it a bit tougher than usual when you just missed the fairway. Greens were semi-firm and rolled pretty consistent (a little bumpy, but that's normal with poa annua greens). $34 to walk, that price will surely get me back there again soon.

I always enjoy playing this course. The greens were fast and in excellent condition. This remains one of the best muni courses in SoCal. Reasonably priced, too!

teed off at 715 am as a single w/ twosome (played behind a group that was a hole in front of us the whole day). First off, if you can ignore the condition of the tee boxes, the fairways and greens make up for it. Speaking of the greens, I was surprised how firm and fast they were, (putting towards the ocean were extra slick) although a little bumpy (poa annua). My short iron shots were sucking back like crazy. Its definitely worth the money $29.00 and 3 hr 45 min rounds makes it that much better.

I woke up super early to play golf in Costa Mesa this morning, however Mother Nature did not cooperate with my plans and dumped rain on me and my plans. While most people would have packed it in I persevered and was rewarded in a fantastic way. I had some lunch and found myself driving back south to home in Vista and realized that not only was it not raining anymore, but the roads were actually dry in San Clemente. Being the resourceful and somewhat psychotic golf nut that I am (aren't we all?), I pulled off the freeway and found myself at San Clemente Municipal Golf Course.

San Clemente is one of my all time favorite municipal layouts. It offers a great variety of holes, solid playing conditions and the prices are fantastic. Today, 1/24, I teed off exactly at 1 pm as a single and never paired up with a group. I finished in about 3 hrs and 45 minutes and that was taking my sweet time, enjoying a couple beers, hitting a couple balls and taking in the views.

The conditions of the course are solid. Its winter so I give every course a break in regards to fairways and rough, but I still think in SoCal greens can remain nice. That was definitely the case at San Clemente. The greens remained firm, rolled well and held shots well. And I hit like, three greens, so I know what I'm talking about. I did hit a lot of fairways, as everyone should at this course because they are WIDE, and not once did I have a bad lie. The tees were good and the rough, as I always say, was rough. That's why it's called that.

This course gets a ton of play and it should. The value is great, its fun to play, and the conditions were more than adequate. I commend the staff here for keeping this place playing the way it is.

I didn't get the chance to go to the bar after the round, which pains me to say, alas I'm not able to give you any advice on the quality of the beers sold. I did get a couple after the sixth hole (when you go by the snack shack), and they didn't have any quality craft beers to speak of. If that's my biggest complaint at any course, I'm doing okay.

Go play San Clemente. It's super fun and a great value.

Played today in bright sunshine that dried out the course nicely. Fairways were in great shape. Sand in bunkers excellent. Fastest greens I have played in a very long time and in top shape. Kudos to the players and staff who maintain this course. A wonderful golf course to play. Great lunch in the Irons afterwards. Pace of play @ 4hr 20m. I look forward to going back and playing this great course again.

One of the great things I like about this course is the consistency of the conditions. It doesn't vary much from month to month. Greens are mostly divot free, fairways better than average, and the design is good.

The greens though must have been designed by David Copperfield. I can't ever seem to figure out the speed or the break. In theory, everything breaks to the ocean, but some seem to break uphill and the speed is often much faster than I anticipate. Maybe because the practice greens are slower.

Anyway....beautiful course. Not much to say other than it was really enjoyable.

Still waiting for my first hole in one....
