Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii!9 am tee time, $33 to walk, pop 4 1/2 hours. This place is like stepping back in time. Clubhouse/ restaurant circa 1950 (buildings look rundown). The course has plenty of potential, unfortunately the city of Oceanside isn't willing to throw some money into this track. Played the blue tees, not an easy layout. Plenty of doglegs, overhanging trees and water hazards. You really need to be able to work your tee ball both ways. Tee boxes beat up, hard to find a level lie. Fairways are so so, there must be at least 3 or 4 different types of grass. Rough doesn't exist, it's either burnt out grass or compacted exposed hardpan. Greens were okay, medium fast speed with a lot of slope from back to front. First time (and last time) playing here. Drive another 10 mintes and play Arrowood, way better course!
Played 02/23 @ 740. POP a little over 4 hrs. Rained the night before, course wasn't even that wet. Weather was cold (56 degrees) windy and clear. Greens as always were in great shape. Most of them tilt from back to front, down hillers I had were quick. The course is super tight with tree lined fairways and multiple water hazards. You don't want to be spraying your drives. Tee boxes were in good shape (some were being overseeded) fairways had good coverage and firm. Bunkers were a mixed bag, probably because of the rain. Overall El Do is a good track to play and test your skills. Hey, for $44 to walk it's definitely worth the price.
Teed off @ 840 on 2/9 POP 4 1/2 hrs. If you need to experience hard and fast greens this is the place. Easily 11-12 on the stimpmeter. Down hill putts or chips, forget it, it's almost impossible to stop at hole.
Course is playing firm and fast, especially with this mini heatwave that just rolled in.
Course is short, but these rockhard greens make it extremely challenging.

Played 01/01/2022 @ 750 am. Cart path only, front nine was rain soaked, fairways were recently overseeded. Let's just say no mower had touched the fairways in a long time. It was difficult to tell if you were in fairway or the first cut. Played lift clean in place. You could hear the ground soaking up the water while standing over the ball. I was making some major divots, I went thru 2 bottles of sand mix by the 16th hole. Pins were set at all the high points of the greens, straight in puts did not exist. Greens were in good condition with medium fast speed. Back nine was in much better shape, not as soaked and fairways were much tighter. Overall the course needs a few weeks to dry out.
Played last Wed 12/1 @7am. Overall course conditions are fine. The speed of the greens are crazy fast! Anything above the hole or putting towards the ocean is a tough two putt. Here's the deal, there only mowing the greens 2-3 times a week, but there rolling the greens everyday! Good luck trying to go an entire round without a three putt. I know I wasn't able to do it.
Played last Momday 8/2. Teed off at 1230 (still got twilight rate $50). Played with a two-some (the one dude was a +1 handicap) serious game. He gave me 7 strokes. Overall course condition is really good. I love the firm fairways, that extra roll is nice. Greens were good, med/fast speed. Some challenging par 4's, #16 brutal. If your spraying your driver it's going to be a long day! I'll defiantly be back, you need to play this track a few times to get the hang of it.
Played 05/04 as a single with a 2some. We all carried a bag and walked, old school. Teed off 10:15 POP 4 hours. Never waited on any holes. Practice facility is top notch, grass range, chipping green, bunker and huge putting green. Now only if the putting green was similar to the greens on the course. Greens much slower and kinda bumpy. I think they still need some time to heal after being punched. Overall condition are really good, no complaints here. Missed greens always lead to some interesting chips, flops and bump and runs. I'll be back out there soon, I love the Goose!
Played on 4/20/2021 @ 10:20 am as a single. You could spend hours at the chipping green/bunker and putting green, nice practice facility. Nothing like this in the OC. Teamed up with another single and a twosome (cool dudes). POP was about 4 1/2 hours, not to bad. I walked and carried my own bag. Lets cut to the chase, these were the best greens I've putted on this year! I'm talking private country club greens at a LACounty highly played public golf course. Crazy isn't it? Greens were fast, smooth and receptive. Luckily my speed was dialed in, no 3 putts! Tee boxes good coverage, a little hairy. Fairways okay, could be cut a little tighter (I still think San Clemente has the best kikuyu fairways around). I do like the walking path cut from the tee boxes to the fairway, that gives a cool look to the course. Greens were definantly the highlight of this course. El Do is waiting for you, now's the time to go after it!
Played 3/23 @ 10am, POP 4 hours. 57degrees and windy (15-20 mph all day). Greens are firm and fast. I putted off #1 and #6 green, I've never done that before. Anything above the hole or putting towards the ocean are way quick! I've never seen the greens this hard and fast at SCGC. Tees fine, kikuyu fairways are pure with a little bit of rough. Get there now before the punch the greens in late April.
Played 1/7 @ 910, POP 4 hours, never waited on any holes! The greens are quick, these are by far the firmest I've ever have seen them. Down hillers are greasy fast. These greens will drive you mental, the pull of the Pacific comes into play all day long. Tees good, fairways nice and full. Ball sits up nice on the kikuyu. Get out there now, the greens are as good as they get @ SCGC!
Played 9/10/20 @ 10 am. POP was under 4 hours. Tees good, fairways good, greens slow and bumpy, on 4 or 5 holes theres a strange looking white weed thats growing on the poa annua greens, not sure what it is. Doesn't realy effect the putting surface, how the super will remove this? I wish they could get some speed on these greens, a little to slow for my liking, I just wish there were more affordable courses in South OC, dream on. I hate that drive to Goose Creek.
Played Sat 6/15 as a threesome. Teed off @ 156, POP just a little over 4 hours, not bad for a Saturday. Let's start with the positive, best fairways I've played on this year, from tee to green you would have perfect lies. Now the negative, all the bunkers are literally unplayable, zero sand, rock hard, exposed rocks, weeds and some wet with standing water in them. Don't know why, are they just letting them go? Or are they planning on redoing the bunkers soon. Big disappointment. Now a kinda negative, greens really soft, spongy, bouncy and slow. It was tough to get the ball to hole. Plus they were litered with divots, I guess people don't know how to fix divots. They need to somehow firm them up a tade bit. Oh, one more thing, no beverage cart that day, food or drinks, forget about it. The snack bar at the turn was even closed or abandoned, what a dump of a building. Definitely a challenging course and a nice layout. Throw in the wind and you got yourself a tough day on the links
